The Headcase Stax thread
speaking of loose change, http://www.ebay.com/itm/STAX-SR-Lambda-Signature-Electrostatic-Headphones-Pro-Bias-w-SRM-T1-Tube-Amp-/171248709094?pt=US_Headphones&hash=item27df37ede6 There is quite a bit of stuff in the auction- I'm still curious about the ED1. I might have to make a pass at this...

what kind of temps are you expecting? the heat sinks on the original, suggested dissipante case are definitely overkill

you can also just cross the diodes

transformer output dynamic amp
If the chassis didn't explode en route, I consider that a win. So if I understand things correctly, you're going to make a "normal" tube amplifier with the output transformers, and then stick lundahls after that?

Thanks for doing the work for me Torpedo, that's the service I used despite being stateside. So you guys know the seller of those Sigmas? He also has a nice pair of lambdas on ebay as well.

It's easier actually, there's a guy in the UK you can contact and he'll resolder a new cable for you. The name escapes me, but it's floating around on this forum somewhere. I used him instead of the USA distributor to get my stuff fixed.

SR-404LE - really "all that," over the SR-307 or ESP950's? $700 worth of it?

So the treble runs hot? Maybe someone will be willing to trade me so I have something at work for low-level listening. Also black

Seems like a pretty good price just to snag the amplifier and black frame putting the mk1 drivers in that would look fairly hideous though. But according to ebay, that price implies that the amplifier is essentially free, what a crime

I've been toying with the idea of moving my kgsshv into the office, but it might be more economical to move the megatron to cut down on my power bill

have you found any success upping the current at 400? this is a pretty attractive proposition since the edcor 330v/200ma and any 15v is super cheap compared to sumr

what's custom about your BHSE? I hope it comes with a spot to cook eggs

digital attenuator
If that's the case with commercial offerings then sure I'd be down to grab a few attenuator boards.

is there a compelling reason to run boards for this one over the amb or twisted pear offerings

I think for the performance and rarity it should be commanding >2k, but I'm not complaining. What I will complain about is the last pair I bought, SN70111. The imbalance between left and right is driving me insane, and I have very little interest in installing dual pots in every one of my future builds. Luckily the 323s has a balance control, which I only discovered recently. The illiquidity of this unit is pretty much why I didn't pick up the one you posted, Justin.

Megatron Electrostatic Headphone Amplifier
I'm not going to fall for your tricks, I'm too poor to build a T2! I have to save towards that BHSE (on which I already dropped the downpayment) on order to bridge the gap between all-sand and all-tube.

That seems to be the current going price for the mk1s, I wish the $ differential between 007 and 009 would decrease a bit so I could try the latter.

Megatron Electrostatic Headphone Amplifier
Transformer arrived, took about an hour just to hook up all the filaments and power properly. My 12A* rail is sitting at 272, so just under 10ma draw for the frontend using 20k to drop from 450 to "300". The transformer seems to do fine after a few hours, the output filament transformer (76VA) runs a fair amount hotter. It's been a while since I've had an amplifier other than the 323s to use. I forgot how easy it is to crank the volume super high because there's no treble-induced fatigue.
