  1. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance. Pretty ugly though, I need to case everything. It's hard to qualify the improvement, but from 10k feet I'd say everything has "better imaging". It also makes the crossfeed function more noticeable. This was A/B-ing between the supplies, feeding the Megatron/007.
  2. if you cased the transformer on top that would free up some space, not that you need it
  3. thanks for the info, I was thinking about using something nicer, but anything is really a step up from the included power supply.
  4. For anyone who still uses the DA11, I had the chance to swap out the stock SMPS for some linear regulators...good results so far. This would also be a good candidate for the DA10.
  5. I would suggest that you mount the LEDs with the same orientation as the tube sockets, it makes things easier to troubleshoot after assembly/during powerup. One of mine was bad and it was impossible to see
  6. 2sa1967 should work as well, it's just not insulated
  7. Cinemag will stamp a logo on your transformers? That's pretty sick
  8. I think I got antek 28V, I'll have to ask the person to whom I gave the amplifier to check
  9. That's way too much for a transformer like that, just grab an antek unit
  10. I don't think I'm as bad as other forum-goers but to each his own. Who needs a new car anyway? I will gripe a bit about how I bought the spectral and all the music I've been downloading lately has been 24/96 I also don't think I'm necessarily in the minority if AKG had to slap a filter onto the headphones to flatten out the response.
  11. I did the same for my build, I heatshrinked them but that was paranoia from building HV stuff. I think you'll be fine
  12. I'm happy to report that my repeated pressing of the earpads seems to have fixed the balance issues for the time being. If they start acting up again I'll probably take a stab at cleaning the area around the driver but for the moment I'm quite pleased. I'm also getting a lot of mileage out of my Adcom and SRM-323S at the office, perfectly fine for low-level listening. Also appropriate for shorter periods of time when it's late and I can crank up the volume.
  13. Glancing at the site, the shape is to just to house the electrolytics: I wonder what component choices they settled on In before someone takes off the case and substitutes duelund PIOs
  14. oh I meant from a future project perspective, if you wanted to reuse this board work for the front end. I think work is starting to get to me, I keep trying to identify and reuse IP blocks Just thinking out loud, don't mind me Quick question about the servo though, what's the lead spacing for the wima cap? Shouldn't need more than a 25V rating right?
  15. it seems like a neat way to go if you wanted to easily swap output stages. I've seen it used in a couple places for both amps and dacs. I think they use jumper pins to make that connection though. might be cheaper to make board runs that way too if it's now 2.5 x 5, but someone else would know better than me.
  16. no rush I am poor and obviously everything revolves around me it almost looks like you can cut this board in half and stack output stage on top of the front end
  17. I didn't really think so either, but curiosity blah blah. I would expect some subtle differences over the aleph j. I'm sure Tari is enjoying his stable of 4 pairs now though.
  18. Wouldn't it require some sort of washer for any pot that isn't the rk50 then?
  19. You might be right, even though I lived with the K1000 for more than 4 years, I think after trying other things it made me revisit them and rediscover my sensitivity to their treble. To borrow spritzer's vocabulary, it's very strident. It might be confirmation bias at work, but there's even a notch filter that's installed that I assume addresses this. Truth be told I didn't spend ridiculous amounts on amplification at the time (compared to ES now). I think that the soundstage/imaging can't be beat because of their physical design, but holistically speaking I had to compromise a lot to live with the headphone. I should have kept them around a little longer though, to try them out of the F5 turbo my friend built, and the spectral that I just sold my kidneys for. Maybe I'm just a masochist
  20. I used to be a k1000 person, but in retrospect I could never figure out how to drive them properly. Tried all sorts of things too, class D, receivers, alephs, tubes, etc. In comparison the HD800 is pretty immune to amplification I also feel like there shouldn't be a need to mod the HD800s. Has anyone tried them side by side?
  21. You guys are terrible. Sennheiser can't afford the toilet paper, it's not their fault that their 200% markup doesn't pay the bills
  22. They're stock, my friend owns them. Maybe I'll convince him to build a mig amp
  23. shouldn't be a problem at herd-fi I would be wary of the way they are throwing around the TCXO term
