  1. I sold mine as I need to cut down on all these headphones... I did just buy two L300limited though for some unknown reason...
  2. Still no strain relief on the cables which is not great...
  3. Just saw it. No info yet what happened...
  4. There are a few parts to this, partially it is charge leakage, partially it is mechanical and finally...it has to be a coating issue as well.
  5. That's a good point. Knowing Stax they might have changed something but I haven't heard anything... The imbalance issue is certainly still there though.
  6. The post here can be pretty reasonable but for some they are an utter pain. Anything with tracking is 20$ plus... even if i send a single resistor...
  7. 43$... gotta love shipping lumps of steel.
  8. No such luck, it's about 4pm so yeah... all hail the darkness!!!
  9. I have plenty of 420VAC transformers (for the 450V KGSSHV) with dual primaries but shipping to you would be killer...
  10. Yup...it's enough of a theory that half the nation is eating anti-depressants this time of year. Sun rising at 11am isn't much fun...
  11. The top plate is fine but the bottom panel is raised a bit to fit the transformer inside. Nobody could make the necessary transformer smaller than 40mm in height so this one had to be squeezed in at 42mm so the bottom is raised up a bit. It was annoying but yeah, nothing I could so short of mounting the transformer on the outside which could cost far more in the end. This amp will drive any Stax sets out there but it was never designed for the 007's in mind. Think of it as an upgraded 353X but in a much crazier chassis. On a side note, the natural light up here just sucks for taking photo's... I was actually just trying to install more lights in that room to make it easier.
  12. Let's not dwell on the specifics of how something actually works.
  13. Mostly to do with the earpads and the angle of the drivers/clamping force. The earpads for these always proved tricky, I tried a pile of them and none never sounded right. Most helped quite a bit but it wasn't until I tried the custom earpads for my own DIY sets that they clicked into play. The opening is quite small and they are a bit taller than most so it's a combo that works.
  14. My set is fairly recent and yeah, get a SR-207 or a L300. They aren't competition with the Stax unless you mod them.
  15. Is there anything new from them? I have the H03 here which is supposed to be TOTL and well... same shit, different name. I've heard them all and they all suck. Some of it is down to the poor driver design but those earpads... fuck...
  16. Better than the 009's but a bit less than the 007's? They are aware that the 009's are the efficient ones...? Maybe I'm just high from the glue as I was doing some prototype diaphragms...
  17. Ohhh goody...more shit for me to buy and take apart.
  18. Crazy tuberoller world...
  19. I aim to please... Wink is right though, we have spent a lot of time with these systems, comparing back and forth so small variations as thus amplified. It is one of the reasons why I think meet impressions as such utter BS only used to drive sales. You need some time with each component in a system you know to really gauge how it performs.
  20. Give the reception in Russia where all the discussion is banned due to shilling...I'm very much skeptical of them. I very much doubt the drivers are made in Japan...by whom? Nobody makes off the shelf electrostatic drivers now. As for the Phenomenon, they are interesting but that's about it. They will need many generations to mature properly. It's the age old cult mentality, how dare he question our dear leader!!?? Singlepower, RSA, Cavalli etc.
  21. The 727 is only pretty bad in comparison to other amps so if you don't do that...you are ok. For me the biggest issue is the lack of engagement and excitement from the amp. It's just so dull and lifeless stock. See here is the usual crap with every new electrostat, they are always world beaters. The first impressions are always "best evah" but it never holds any water. The HE Audio stuff was great...nope it was horrible. The King Sound showed up Stax...nope...far from it really unless they were showing Stax how things should not be done? Now the Mr. Speakers Voce, read the meet impressions and they are stunning!! Talk to people who know something about electrostatics and they pretty much horrible. I just wish somebody would just take a set of the best 'stats out there and actually try to improve them without all the BS. Here's the rub though, for something so simple they are fucking hard to get right. As for the driver size, who on earth thinks that a larger driver is better? Sure the Stax SR-1 drivers were way too small but anything larger than the 009's has very dubious qualities. How is the driver supported, how do you deal with the internal vibrations of the driver, how much does it flex etc. A smaller driver will always outperform a larger flimsy driver...
  22. Could be static buildup due to shipping. That has happened a few times for me and it should clear up. Could also be something wrong with the driver...hard to tell.
  23. The amp is a real glorious piece of shit. So of all the amps out there that they could "borrow" they picked... drumroll....the Koss E/90!!!
  24. Yeah...these. According to some they are the second coming but any discussion about them is banned on some of the largest forums in Russia so probably plenty of shilling going on. To me they look like a bad DIY project...
