Dinny is right. It was the first thing I figured out how to un-fuck on 10.7. I'm now on 10.8 and of course all the settings I just fixed reverted themselves (or so it feels like.) I haven't tested any of my main apps (Photoshop, Traktor, etc) yet. Irritatingly, Little Snitch is broken, and that's one util I really depend on. The CPU bump from a Core 2 Duo to a dual core i7m is ...substantial. Anyone notices this cute trick by Apple? What's this going to do to poor third party manufacturers (like, snicker, ALO?)- slower forum

New MBP arrived this morning. It's cute and shiny, but 10.7 is weird. I don't plan on sticking with it for long. My machine is "Eligible for OS X Mountain Lion Up-to-Date Program" and after much hoop-jumping, I'm now downloading Mountain Lion in the background. Of course, ML will be weird to my used-to-10.6-eyes as well. Why is scrolling backwards on 10.7. WTF, Cupertino?- slower forum

...and now another installment of Unnecessarily Large GIF Theatre:- The ambient/IDM thread.
James Stinson didn't have anything to do with Dopplereffekt. While they're both Detroit electro, there's a pretty different sonic blueprint between the two projects. Gerald Donald hasn't produced anything as eccentric and weird as what he did with Stinson. Conversely, Stinson's work without Donald is quite strange on its own. At this point, most of the credits for the Stinson/Donald projects on Discogs are correct.- The ambient/IDM thread.
Time for some thread necro in honor of a largely unknown genius. 10 years ago today, Drexciya's James Stinson died. I still remember logging on to SoulSeek and the electro room was buzzing with the news. It had only been comparatively recently that his real name was associated with the project. Around that time there were some update wars on the Drexciyan Discogs page that would make a Wikipedian flinch. Now at this current wave of "EDM" popularity crests and the term "electro" has been repurposed to reanimate the career of a legion of has-been house DJs, the importance of what James Stinson and Gerald Donald did in the 1990s under a host of aliases is more important than ever. You will encounter precious little electronic music as challenging and rewarding as that produced by James Stinson in his all too short career. It's not catchy, and it's not necessarily easy to "get." If you listen closely, you will will hear the bleak landscape of Detroit, and the vivid imagination of those who live there and sought to escape to a world of their own making. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrTgSOWGJtU Available in much higher quality here.- slower forum
