  1. After talking with somebody fairly extensively about the topology and circuitry of the amp, seems it's like a PPAv2 (or any other PPL amp), but slightly tweaked. What's the consensus around here for one? Is it worth the asking price over a PPAv2? What are the sonic differences between the two? I've heard a Lisa, but not the PPAv2...just wondering if it's worth supporting the DIY community or supporting somebody who doesn't really hold back his designs to the DIY community. http://www.esnips.com/doc/837045c1-25a0-4004-b933-7b9f9c842bc0/LISA-III-New-Front-Panel-019 I like how slender the new Lisa is, as it's not TOO bothersome to carry around. Carrying around that 1st gen Lisa, which appears to be the same size as all the DIY PPAv2 offerings, is just too big. Basically, I need something that will primarily be a desk unit (ability to drive bigger cans, and will replace my other portable as a "do both" amp), but HAS THE ABILITY to be carried in the pocket/bag AND has the bass knob. So battery life isn't a concern.
  2. Carbon is sexy....the case is about the same size as the iPod itself and comes with a screen protector too.
  3. Anybody own these? $158 recable for a set of $25 cans. I'm not being skeptical or facetious, I really am curious on the differences.
  4. Meh...who cares about that? Never said I wanted a pair, just said I wanted to know how they sound....
  5. Who has heard or owns them? Pretty premium price...I'm fairly eager to know how they sound...
  6. Australian beers...I'll check that out next time I goto Total Wine or World Market. ANy specific ones?
  7. Which is your preference? I noticed most people fall one way or the other. I personally HATE beer. It's disgusting and flavorless IMO. I can tolerate DARK DARK beer, like Mackeson XXX and Gulden Draak, mainly because they're so damn dark...but otherwise, I pass on Bud, Miller and Heiny..blah. I personally prefer liqour... 4 Horsemen, Svedka on the rocks and mixed girly drinks hit the spot...
  8. I figure this'll get any kind bugs and server issues sorted out by posting this on the forums to get our server loaded. And for whatever reason, I don't get bugs on my end viewing with Safari, IE, Firefox or Opera...low and behold, somebody will get one(which I need to know about)....as it always happens. http://www.fitforkingsclothing.com It's STUPID simple and STUPID basic. We decided against anything even remotely complicated and wanted to keep a simple theme for things to be "off center" as we're both a little, well, off center, lol. We used some of our friends and random people as guinea pigs for the last site and some people thought it was too hard to navigate: http://www.getlocalized.com This is a totally different clothing line, hence a new website, but I just wanted to get everybody's input... Things I should change, any bugs, image suggestions, etc.... LMK, even if your comments are "your site and clothes suck and are ugly and the site is STILL too hard to navigate!" I want to hear it, lol.
  9. I suggested the same thing way back when, and got a nasty gram from adminz...difference is, I singled out RSA. I was told in was inappropriate and that it would be very difficult for a manufacturer to do such a thing....
  10. ^ I guess that's what I'm getting at. You can still get the sense of impact from a bass drum hit or bassline and it not be bloated or screw up the entire spectrum of sound. Like anything, it just has to be executed right. You don't have to necessarily "feel" it, but the note itself, can be achieved. I'm a concert kinda guy, and a good example for me is when I goto watch Tiger Army play. The upright bass is rediculous, and even at crappy acoustic set-up venues, you still get the sense of impact that guy has when he plays. I've gotten that same feeling when listening to SE530's out of a Portaphile, or UM2's from a Hornet. Like I said, I'm not a fan of bloat, but like Dusty said, you CAN get awesome bass and impact out of a set of cans and when it happens, it's awesome. I just think it's funny when a set of cans does do it, people call it bloated, when in reality, it's just reproducing the live sound. I have several friends who I've watched in the studio, and there's definitly a different kind of sound coming from a live performance, studio performance and end product finished on CD. IMO, live ALWAYS sounds better....
  11. nice.....I'm gonna go into my kitchen and do it. WOnder how much battery life it gives you?
  12. This isn't directed at anybody, but I find it kinda humorous that people want it to sound as life-like and accurate to the live performance as possible, yet, when a headphone replicates a hard hitting impactful bassline it's heard as 'too bass heavy'. Example? People revel and awe at the sound of a K701 or HD600, and although they sound organic and realistic, IMO, they lack the hard hitting impact bass that a cello, bass drum hit, upright bass, or slap-bass guitar give you when you heard them live. Yet, people look for a "neutral" phone when looking for cans, but in a live performance, the bass carries the music and isn't "neutral" per say... That said, I can't STAND horribly bloated bass, but at the same time, I think if you're trying to replicate the "live sound", you should be looking for a can that gives you as close to the visceral impact that alive performance gives you. I think there's a differences between live performance and studio sound, in which case, I think most people are more after the latter....
  13. What makes the vintage Grado's special compared to the current ones? I'm not knocking anything, I just really don't know the differences.
  14. $6-8 covers the shirt. I just said I can do it for $4-6 depending quantity and colors. So it still looks like my higher price is on par with your higher one. $35 too much? THAT'S INCLUDING DIGITIZATION(mostly for embroidery). Did you ever read that I was charging digitization fees? Um...NO. That's cause I don't charge them. Lets see anybody else do that. That $35 is usually waived if the file comes to me ready to print, but most people come to us with an idea, a couple random pictures and ask for a design to be made. You said yourself, he's not charging you because he knows you'll be ordering HUNDREDS of shirts. You're probably a repeat customer, and anybody with any sense wouldn't charge thier regulars, get fucking real. Stop being so fucking cantankerous. I think we're doing pretty well for ourselves. Every year we get business from TARGET for the Fl-Ga game shirts. Go where you want...I just know you won't beat that price sans the obnoxiously cheap outsourcing from China for smaller quantities. Most of the jobs we get is under a quantity of 300, specializing in smaller jobs for around the city and the local fraternaties with no minimums. We've found our niche, and are running with it....
  15. I'm still here. Called out in the T-Shirt thread? How? For being so closely knit, I didn't even know you were in existence at the Tampa meet. Pretty close knit eh? I didn't see any women there, nor have I ever seen you....And it's not like I was wandering all over the place and we happenned to miss each other, I sat on the fucking couch the whole time and listened to portables, his Denon table and the Orpheus'....so uh, for being so closely knit, I sure as fuck didn't see you anywhere. I'm going to call you....nevermind.
  16. It was the one around the time I registered on HF. I didn't know anybody. I remember Nightwoundstime commenting about it when we were in the Tampa meet and that's how we actually met was in our distaste on how we both thought that switch was a sham.
  17. At the meet I was at he was answering tech questions, with the exception of op-amps used. Granted they mainly consisted of battery life and why he chose the batteries he did, but tech questions none the less. I expected no different on a forum. I also asked if the battery were user replaceable. Most likely a simple answer, and DEFINITLY not a "tech question". I don't want to have to rely on his ass to change out a fucking battery. How the fuck am I supposed to know he doesn't answer tech questions on a forum? Hmm...answering questions in person, but not on a forum, especially on the likes of HF = douchebag. Maybe that's a bit strong of a word choice...but you get the idea. In anycase....meh.
  18. Meh...what's in a name? Hell, I didn't even know you were a mod till just now...that's how insignificant/meaningless those titles are to me... My opinion of Ray was before I came to head-case, however short it were, it's still crap that he can't answer a question, especially if it means a sale. I'm not in the financial position to say "meh, I'll drop $500 to see if I like it..." I'de expect ANY question asked to be answered...meh...
  19. I'm calling him a douchebag cause I've sent him PMs on other forums, as well as eMails WEEKS before the outtage of Head-Fi, which lasted 3 weeks. I've gotten not even "I'll get back to you when I'm not so busy" reply. Which atleast, would have been somewhat understandable. I guess you can call my "singing him praise" in ignorance. Sure, I own an original Hornet and love it, but that doesn't say I respect the guy on a personal level. Especially after getting ignored on several fronts. After I've started to read about his whining (not just hear-say, but the posts themselves) whenever says ANYTHING on a critisizing level, he whines. Very unmature of him to whine about not being able to goto a PUBLIC meet either. So what, you're not invited, STFU already. And his business practices of "allegedly" copying designs and calling him his own are also shady IMO. So what if you copied it, big deal. It's the audio industry, it's done on a regular basis. Atleast other people who do copy it, don't claim it to be novel and revolutionary and it be able to drive EVERYTHING. My suspicions were correct on the 1st meet I went to where he had a Hornet hooked up to an A/B switch and one of his larger home amps, can't remember exactly which one. But it was funny how alot of people at the meet were like "that's amazing, it sounds just like the home amp!", NOT going "why the fuck would you buy that $$$$ amp if it sounds the same as the portable?" And people STILL continued to buy his full size amp. WTF? Is it just me or does that seem rediculously stupid? I'm thinking said A/B switch was just a switch to cut out sound for a second and it was hooked to just one amp. In anycase, I'll admit I'm guilty of owning one of his products (as said above). But there's a reason I own it over another portable. It has a pretty case and the gain switches are external. Pretty much a matter convenience and looks for the price I paid for it (~60% of sticker), it made it a dece deal. There's no way in hell I'de pay full price for one of his products. Call this bitching I guess...but it irks the crap outta me when I had a legitimate question, and it tried to get shot down by mods until I made it BLATENTLY apparent is was of valid question which deems to be answered. Funny how all questions before and after mine are answered by him...especially ones of crap which could be gathered just by reading the thread. In my book, avoiding any technical question of yours on an upcoming product that ISN'T of proprietary nature (like a design secret, etc), makes you a douchebag. Man up if your design sucks...don't cry about it.
  20. Funny how he can post an update, but chooses to ignore any questions he has about the tech side of the amp...douchebag.
  21. Heh, it says I have 31 pms, but I goto both my sent and inbox and ther are zero. Still says I have 31 stored ven after I checked both of them...
  22. Of course there's the obvious "I want $$$$" answer, but realisticly speaking, what should I tell her? She's familiar with the cost/nature of the hobby, but I don't want to completely stray her away from ever buying me anything audio related ever again with some extravagant want. So what should I tell her I want? It would be for something primarily used at home or when on the putor like now. But I would occasionally take it out wherever. Again, not expensive. So I was thinking along the lines of lower end Grados, K240, HD555, K81DJ, RP21, RP22,etc. Something lower end that doesn't give you sticker shock but is a good call. Basically, sub $100. Oh, it'll be driven by a portable rig most all the time, so it'll have to be easy to drive, but respond VERY WELL to a portable amp.
  23. I know you were Screen charges are $35. But we also don't charge a digitization fee if it's FAIRLY simple. Now if you're wanting to get all crazy with halftones..... But we're able to keep costs down cause we have no overhead, no other real staff, and everything is paid for.
  24. He's a liar...it's still not up
