Ayre's take on why apodizing, min-phase, slow roll off filters is where it's at and what they prefer. Should be the same as HQplayer's poly-sinc-shrt-mp. https://www.ayre.com/white_papers/Ayre_MP_White_Paper.pdf

STATUS UPDATE: TKD has confirmed the GB order including the pots with extended shafts, and started production. So now we wait
-
Well, it's only been a few hours of listening, but I have come to pretty much the same conclusions. The closed from does something with the room presence, the room gets smaller but the sense of space is stronger. The poly-sincs have better bite, but a little less "in-the-room" feeling. I guess it comes down to what music it is and where it was recorded. For me, current conclusion is closed form for jazz, chamber music and live concerts from small to medium size venues. Poly sinc for stuff with lots of electronica in it. It's wonderful to be able to choose I should add that for me, it takes the high end gear to make the distinctions. Carbon/007 yes, HD800/Sysu Dynalo yes, HD650/M3 no...

Went down the HQplayer rabbit hole a while this weekend. Brilliant piece of software! Many thanks to @Sherwood for posting this! Soon realised that Jussi (the coding guy behind HQplayer) implemented a closed-form filter a few months ago, the merits of which Schiit has devoted a long section of their Yggy FAQ to. Pretty much the secret sauce in the Yggy. So for anyone who would like to try that sauce without buying the Yggy, here's the free trial option. Of course, a DAC is so much more than the filter and algorithms may differ, etc but it makes for a very interesting listen. Found a nice explanation on the merits of closed form vs apodising filters at http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f11-software/hq-player-20293/index147.html#post475586

Ok, not so long evening, a bad solder joint it was. Nice and steady at 120 ma now. Guess I have to go watch a movie instead. Boring Many thanks for both of your very quick responses!!!
-
Great, thanks! Can't get more than halfway there, so I've screwed up somewhere... Makes for a nice evening of troubleshooting
-
Just double checking: 120ma, not mv? Can't get near the ma version, so thought I'd ask before pulling things apart...

The POTs section of this GB is now officially closed. Entries for pot boards (type and quantity) can still be updated and edited. Also, if you need your shaft(s) extended, now is the time to make that known I will be placing the order tomorrow.
-
Great, thanks!

-
Well, I can't help but feel a bit cheap when advertising shaft extensions for a small fee
-
Done. Regular will be the default option if no choice is indicated. I agree Those who want extended shafts, please indicate so in the spreadsheet.
-
14 mm above the threaded part for 4CP-601, 10 above the threaded part for 4CP-2511, if I remember the data sheet correctly.
-
Good news; customized shaft lengths can be had at an additional cost of about 1 USD per piece, and min quantity is 1, which means @UFN can have the length he desires without that affecting anything else. Bad news (for GeorgeP): custom thread length was not possible. UFN: please tell me how much extra length you want for your pots. Anyone else who also want longer shafts; let me know. I will close the GB tomorrow. Those who have not paid but who are still interested, please make your payment.
-
A good argument in favor of big knobs . I like it. I'll ask TKD then if our GB could have the option to do a slightly longer shaft, and report what the conditions (number of pots) for that would be.
-
Noted. The first step is to ask if they can do what @UFN wants, and what the minimum quantity is for doing that. If enough are interested and minimum quantity is low, we might make that an option. I usually do thinner panels than 10 mm, so some portion of the GB will definitely be standard length.
-
Not yet; there's been quite a lot of PM discussions on details and custom values that I need to ask TKD, and I though I'd put them in one e-mail rather than shooting a barrage of questions. Since you found that they do can special length shafts, could you tell me a little more detail about what would you like to see extended (given that we meet their minimum quantity requirement for this) ? Would you only like the threaded part extended so you actually can fit a nut on the other side of a 10 mm front panel, or do you also want the shaft extended (and if so by how much), or would you rather see both extended (and if so, by how much for each part)? For my part, I usually countersink from the front or tap from the back of the front panel when it's 10 mm (the latter takes a couple of washers to get position right, but works surprisingly well), but I can see the advantage of not having to do either of these
-
UPDATE: there seems to exist a sufficient interest for both the 4CP-2511 10K and the 601 in 50K version, so they are now back in the spreadsheet.
-
It's fine, and money is received. Thanks!
-
Received. Thanks!
-
Received. Thanks! Received. Thanks! Noted and no problem!
-
Don't know, have never seen it, but I can certainly ask Received, thanks!
-
You're fine, just in time I'm collecting payment now, so just paypal me (paypal address above), and please include your Head Case ID in the message. No problem and great
-
Payment received, thanks! Mwl168 is handling the boards, so we'll have to see if he expects pre-payment for the boards prior to ordering or if we'll collect costs dor shipping and boards in one payment once the packages go out.
-
Well, it seems like all who wished have stated their interest in the spreadsheet. As it sums up, the 50K version of 4CP-601 does not have enough entries (minimum is 5 units), so it will be dropped from the GB. @gepardcv and @obiwan: please check your entries and make sure you are happy . I will now start to collect payment for the pots. Each participant, please paypal me the amount under "price total" on your row in the spreadsheet. My paypal adress is [email protected]. Please include your head-case ID in the message box. Once all payments are in, I will place the order with TKD. Note that the current payment covers having the pots made and shipped to Sweden. Costs for onward postage to where you live will be collected later once the pots are in.
