Works okay on the Heil but now since the ribbon is upside down I have to flip all my tracks over in post. Oh well.

My next recording is setup. An all ribbon mic duet sharing the R84a for vocal with a R-10 for the acoustic guitars. Using the figure 8, hopefully, to record a nice duet with minimal tracks. Also Dusty, not too far from you. https://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/1327219-studio-robbery-alert-_-dc-metro-area.html Also again, this is about as good as I could get the recessed vocals and overly loud guitars from the island recording.

Yeah, I have three C Stands next to my desk so putting in another boom might be tough. I got the iLok registered but now I have to carry around a usb-c to usb hub just to use it. Did I miss the Thunderbolt/USB-C version of the iLok?

Nope, Luna is too good and works so well with all this gear.

Done. I actually dug up my old iLok for Amarra, but decided it was probably worth the $40 for a new fancy Aluminum one.

Follow up stupid question. If I am going to drag the Apollo gear and my laptop on location and have no access to WiFi, how does iLok work with my Luna license? I use iLok cloud now. Do I need to buy a physical key?

Oh no, I would not bother recording a band with a drummer. Who wants those crazy fuckers around?

I am intrigued by acoustic guitar mostly as I have the Earthworks mics and the SM57s for micโing a guitar amp. I am interested in grabbing small condenser mics that i can also use for stereo recordings so the Soyuz 013, Neumanns 184 or knock-offs seem like worthy contenders. From what i can see, Tiny Desk uses just about everything from cheap to Schoeps.

Another stupid question, what does everyone like for instrument mics? I have Earthworks and SM57s but I am thinking about Neumann 184s or the Warm Audio knockoffs of the 84 or the AT 4021s.

I remember him. You should tune in tomorrow to their show. 5-6 hours of Jacquire King teaching how to record music. Really good outside of all the cheap fuckers in chat mad because they did not give out enough $100 coupons for plugins.

Watched the UA show all day on YouTube, they managed recording drums, keyboard and bass. Tomorrow is guitars and vocals. Pretty awesome show with tons of useful information. Did not have any idea that studios use reversed speakers to DI as part of a drum recording kit. Seemed to make a big difference. I have used Reaper and once you clear out a ton of useless shit in the interface it is pretty decent. Now that I have tried several, I have to say the Luna setup is dramatically easier to use and better sounding than anything else I have used, if you are okay with โsoftโ hardware for everything in the lineup. Also, of course only on Mac and really only perfect if you have their gear.

I threw away around 20 packs of Sweetwater candy yesterday. I am finding that shit everywhere. Watched a couple of hours of some great recording details from UA today. Think they are doing another one tomorrow.

They also seem to have a problem with putting you on hold for extended times and then just randomly hanging up on you. Been trying for almost 30 mins and have yet to get to a person. Maybe they have grown too big for their mom and pop shop format?

They are only open for support about 3 Hours a day.

I think there was a Bit O Honey in this one but the Earthworks instrument mics I got yesterday had some weird banana one instead.

Evidently Sweetwater sends you a free Thunderbolt cable with a $900 interface but you are on your own for the $3,300 dollar model. ๐

RIP someone or another
Dorothy Hoover, my Grandmother, passed from COVID complications yesterday. I guess she had a good 92 year run.

More difficult than I imagined. Three very different acoustic amps, only one of which had a line out, so I ended up recording with my contraption mic around 8 feet back and one line out feed from the lead guitarist. All outside on the island, while major construction was taking place on a rock wall behind the beach. Vocals suck but I think the guitars are okay.

Yeah, I will be using the 10 II in Music Mode. As this will be outside on the island, I am leaning towards line out and amp mics and not bothering with the Neumann.

Got the rest of the information for the recording this weekend. Three guys, all with mic and acoustic connected to their own amp. I can record line out from each amp for the easiest setup. Orrrr, I could record line out plus throw mics on the amps annndd a Neumann U87 in Omni at my recording position in front of the band. Probably just too many things for me to screw up.
