  1. Yeah, let's keep it on that Anybody maybe something to say about the article itself besides the chattering....?
  2. Ow jeezz, here we go again.....you're not all 15 yr olds, right???
  3. Sorry, have to dissapoint you here...I'm not that knowlegable to come up with that myself, google is my friend I got it from here: http://www.rocketroberts.com/techart/amp.htm There's more on the site if you're interested. What I posted is the intire article about that except for the outro.
  4. I posted this on head-fi a while back and thought it might be interesting reposting it here for the ones who haven't seen it and just to post something interesting... I already forgot what was in it so I'll have to reread again I guess, it's very long: "Audio Power Amplifier Fundamentals Introduction The term amplifier is very generic. In general, the purpose of an amplifier is to take an input signal and make it stronger (or in more technically correct terms, increase its amplitude). Amplifiers find application in all kinds of electronic devices designed to perform any number of functions. There are many different types of amplifiers, each with a specific purpose in mind. For example, a radio transmitter uses an RF Amplifier (RF stands for Radio Frequency); such an amplifier is designed to amplify a signal so that it may drive an antenna. This article will focus on audio power amplifiers. Audio power amplifiers are those amplifiers which are designed to drive loudspeakers. Specifically, this discussion will focus on audio power amplifiers intended for DJ and sound reinforcement use. Much of the material presented also applies to amplifiers intended for home stereo system use. Basics The purpose of a power amplifier, in very simple terms, is to take a signal from a source device (in a DJ system the signal typically comes from a preamplifier or signal processor) and make it suitable for driving a loudspeaker. Ideally, the ONLY thing different between the input signal and the output signal is the strength of the signal. In mathematical terms, if the input signal is denoted as S, the output of a perfect amplifier is X*S, where X is a constant (a fixed number). The "*" symbol means
  5. Absolutely! I'm already looking forward to another one. It went way too fast. We should hire a cottage or something next time and have meet that lasts a weekend long. And we can listen, have fun, barbeque some and make a campfire and play songs on guitars and drink nice wine...sigh....I really like the idea
  6. Well done and congrats! Last sunday I listened to the Lambda for the first time...man..do they sound good! Very involving headphones and detailed. The voices were so much more up front than with my Prolines, almost scary Anyways, happy listening time !
  7. You're welcome, Vicky. The meet was very nice, too bad I was a little too tired from the night before . Very nice equipment was present, time was too little to listen to everything that I wanted to hear. Ow, and Ergo's are really cool
  8. I haven't heard any of those models (yet) so that makes me unable to like them or dislike them for that matter. I think the R10 would get my prefs listening the first as they have been compared to the ed9 and placed slightly above it (by one person). So that got me interested. They are too expensive though. I wanted to like the K701 but out of my Larocco they sounded dull and boring. Have to check them again out of a decent set-up, which I was able to do last sunday but was too late. Something I did like very much was the Stax Lambda Nova Signature. Best set-up I've heard in a while. As for the 780's, I would like to hear the ALO-modded one to hear for myself how big the improvement is and how they, after that, compare to the ed9. Stock version though, never again. Kudos to Ultrasone though for their impeccable service. My 750's had a cracked headband and I lost the receipt. The representative of Ultrasone took them home with him sunday night in order to replace it. And it's ready now, waiting for me to pick it up at where I work. Incredible fast service! As for the playground here....pretty childish stuff...you do have a lounge here, right??
  9. Don't know actually....Haven't seen it. That could be me though. There was so much to listen to. From a previous meet I listened to the HE60 and it's the best senn I have ever heard. Very smooth, neutral and detailed.
  10. Ow, and for those interested, in my sig is a link to the meet impressions. I had a real fun and interesting day, that's for sure!
  11. LOL
  12. Neither good dynamics
  13. Thanx! Talkie Walkie is awesome indeed. The ed9 delivers it perfectly ALO indeed does more than just a recable, I forgot for a sec. So yes, that should probably alter the sound way more. Would like to hear that for myself to find out how much of a differ it really makes.
  14. That could be. I must have read over that detail. It's the stock one I listened to but I can't imagine a recable will solve their issues and make them sound like an ed9. But ofcourse, hearing is believing and since I haven't I won't debate that.
  15. Just got back from the meet and I'm really tired so the impressions will be kept somewhat short but I listened to the 780's today and....I don't like them at all. I don't understand the hype about them after listening to them. The bass is simply toooooo much. The highs feel more pronounced (didn't think that was possible after hearing many people complaining about the Proline-highs, but it is) and at times they even hurt my ears. The headphones were fully burned in, like had 500hrs on them so that's not the problem. I listened to them via the Larocco and Ipod. The music I listened to was Talkie Walkie from Air, some stuff from Pleymo to check out how they handle the metal-part and to see how they would cope with more 'busy' music. I also listened to Pink Floyd. With Air, the song was Alone in Kyoto for example, it sounded not too bad except for the bass. Compared to the Proline 750's they are less transparant, have more pronounced mids and highs and because of that I think it's more difficult to listen to each part in the music seperately which is something I really like about the 750's. (I don't know if it's because of that, I'm not knowlegable enough to describe it properly I guess). I decided to feed them Pleymo which is really heavy stuff, with lots of different things in it to see how they would handle it. Disgusting. The bass went real low but it sounded muddy and absolutely awfull. Way too much there. You have a certain string in one song which was so piercing they hurt my ears. They have absolutely no control when it gets heavier in the music. The 750's are much calmer to listen to and you can focus on everything seperately without losing harmony. Their bass is not bloated and stays very controlled whatever you throw at them. Yes, I am a 750 fangirl, simply because I like them. If you find the 750's to bright or not like fun and because of that you wanna hear/have the 780's please look into the Proline 650's. Much more pleasant to the ears. I also don't understand why they are being compared with the ED9's, they are totally different animals. Qua presentation of sound, control and transparancy the Prolines resemble them way more. Oh, one good thing about them, they were really comfy! P.S. please forgive my noobish way of descibing my impressions, but I hope they make sense and you can catch my drift.
  16. Interesting, as that should indeed alter the sound. Your comment is the first I've read mentioning this. That would make them less comfortable I suppose, right?
  17. Yeah, HE60's! By far the best Sennheiser I've ever heard. Hmm, 700 more bass than the 650..that's also mentioned as being the difference between 680 and 780..
  18. Thanx Voltron & Vicky for your insights. Just to clearify, as I can remember from Sovs post, he stated that balanced made a difference but not too much. LDJ325 on the other hand found it a huge improvement over single-ended. Unfortunately I have not yet had the chance hearing them balanced. I can't imagine the 780's being close to the ed9's but it has been stated multiple times by multiple members so that got my attention. I will never blow any money on them though, I plan to go for the "real deal" instead. What I also find funny is that the HFI-lineup from Ultrasone is meant to be for moviewatching purposes and not directly for music. That's what the Prolines are for. In the past the HFI's were not that loved like the Prolines are because of that and probably because of that never got that much attention. But when Ultrasone announced the new HFI's "everyone" was all over them. That kinda struck me as odd. The comments on them are quite diverse as I'm used to concerning Ultrasones so I'm looking forward comparing them to my 750's although I don't expect to be blown away. Vickys comments on the 780 were not that promising but they weren't fully burned-in so I take that with a grain of salt. I do think that when fully burned-in you also would not come to like them as you're not that fond of certain aspects in the Ultrasone sound. I think my brother dislikes his 750's for the same reason and loves his HD600. Although I have to say he enjoys them more with my Larocco (which at first he thought I was making the stupidest buy of the century haha). On a sidenote: about the rudistor, I'm planning on buying one in the future I think and the main difference between the RPX33 and the RPX100 is that the latter can go balanced, right??
  19. ldj325 on head-fi did and liked them better than single-ended. He posted about it in the big Ultrasone thread if I'm not mistaken.. I believe also Sovkiller heard them balanced but wasn't really impressed by it. All ed9 talking here btw. From all the things I've read I think the 650's benefit more from being balanced though as they turn into a complete different beast.
  20. I'm wondering since they stated the 780 has even more bass than the 2500's. That makes me go like ughh. Sounds like overkill to me since the 2500's are already no slouch in the bass-department. I'm wondering about the mids, how they compare and the highs as well. Oh well, I'll probably find out upcoming sunday..;-) I'm just very impatient ha!
  21. Nice! I was thinking about setting up a harddrive system in the future myself. From al the stuff I've seen the Olive Opus 5 750gb comes closest to what I want, well, is exactly what I want. Anybody ever seen it up close and maybe even heard/used it?
  22. I'm wondering if anyone here heard the 750's and the 780's and is able to make a comparism?
  23. Me neither I had dreadlocks for 3 years and cut them off completely like 3 months before the pic. I hate short hair. It's a weird feeling after having had long hair for 20+ yrs and my headphones fell off a lot more easily haha
  24. As stated above a meet in the Netherlands. There's a thread going on at the forum linked to below (probably familiar by many of you ) and the gear that will be present is quite interesting. I know, a lot of Ultrasones but lots of other goodies! http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f24/march-16th-netherlands-meet-hans-qables-291563/index16.html
  25. It's really beautifully written. Different style than I'm used to. Supposed to be his best work. Unfortunately I don't have much spare time so the reading is not really going fast.
