  1. Yeah I tried carbonite but the USB thing killed it since everything is on a drobo. I'll switch to backblaze since it does incremental and saves a lot of effort over time. It also seems to bandwidth throttle better apparently.
  2. I love the Natural History and the National Gallery. That said the newly renovated American History is pretty awesome including the star spangled banner.... I dunno very hard choice. It'll be f'ing cold.
  3. Damn. Should have asked. Did not look at Backblaze. Reading a bit about the incremental backup I think I may switch... only cost me an extra $6 or something... oh well.
  4. What did you use?
  5. one month subscription to mozy to see how long it's going to take to push my 200+gb of crap up onto the cloud...
  6. 1.5tb hard drive to replace the one that my drobo cooked by "sticking" on and overheating and having to be unplugged. At least it didin't cook them all that would have wiped out all my music or photos. I now know not to let the drobo figure it out itself but just shut it down when acting weird. Also thinking of buying carbonite backup...
  7. Congrats Bryan! Seriously? I need your job. Mine is faaaaaar worse than anything in undergrad or grad school.
  8. Reks: Hope the surgery goes well.
  9. Condolences Steve....
  10. Got up at the but crack of dawn to drop my wife off at a race and then pick her up after. She was stoked because she set a PR and wasn't really trying. Installed web based control for Foobar2000 on my music PC that lets me control it from anywhere on the network. Yes I know I could do this many other ways. Anyway it's awesome: I will get a lot more use out of my speakers out of this. Spent the last couple hours working on my training plan for the next 52 weeks. This is going to be a lot of work (both the planning and execution).
  11. more lights for the two holly bushes in front of the house (still look a little anemic but ok) and christmas tree scented candle to pretend we have a real tree
  12. I was going to point out your logo had the name of a local mountain bike race series but I just realized it is the logo for the series.... I donated my old viola to the local high school. Hopefully one of the little snots enjoys it.
  13. Congrats to your son Mike. Good luck to him on UofF. What's he want to study? I spent the last couple days doing a validation of a non-linear wave code I wrote for my PhD Thesis and showed that the non-linearity is a lot more important than even I thought it was. Pretty cool that the wave I'm simulating is nearly 100ft tall. This will probably get me a few sweet ass publications....
  14. Glad I could help even if it was by accident....
  15. Kindle and leather case for my wife's birthday
  16. I'm guessing that ANN is Artificial Neural Network which needs multiple examples to train but I guessing that the convolution based approaches allow you to look at across the length scales and correlate that with past tumors length scales which would be very interesting..... As far as websites go I don't know I believe all I used was Mathworld....
  17. What's the project. I do a lot of convoluted convolutions Time domain and frequency domain.
  18. Got up and went and tried out my new mountain bike which was an very painful experience with 10+ side falls and 2 over the handlebar wipeouts. I'm stiff as heck a few cuts but no bruises as yet. Then I had a fellow caser and his family over for a Barbadian dinner which was lots of fun.
  19. I like philly airport now. It's really nice. It used to be my preferred way to get home to Barbados when I was at school (that or Miami...) So far I have spent the morning doing some work and now the last little while trying to figure out how to set up the suspension on my new full suspension mountain bike. The first time I rode it and slammed on the brakes the front shock compressed and nearly ejected me. I'm going to have to get used to this...
  20. Very true! Job well done
  21. MIT used to impress me but now I work with a bunch of guys with PhDs from there and not so much....
  22. Not much. Riding bikes and working about the same as usual. You?
  23. I know I was a massive PITA for my advisor but I'm a massive PITA for most people. Luckily I usually turn out to be a useful PITA too.... I never had a PhD student myself during my 2 year professor stint but my masters student was great other than right at the end when I had to beat both him and his masters comittee into shape which was no big deal.
  24. It is so. I came back yesterday, I was so swamped with other stuff I got out of the habit of coming here and stopped for a while..... Glad to back
  25. What? Buying stuff or riding bikes? I plan to keep doing both indefinitely
