  1. I like philly airport now. It's really nice. It used to be my preferred way to get home to Barbados when I was at school (that or Miami...) So far I have spent the morning doing some work and now the last little while trying to figure out how to set up the suspension on my new full suspension mountain bike. The first time I rode it and slammed on the brakes the front shock compressed and nearly ejected me. I'm going to have to get used to this...
  2. Very true! Job well done
  3. MIT used to impress me but now I work with a bunch of guys with PhDs from there and not so much....
  4. Not much. Riding bikes and working about the same as usual. You?
  5. I know I was a massive PITA for my advisor but I'm a massive PITA for most people. Luckily I usually turn out to be a useful PITA too.... I never had a PhD student myself during my 2 year professor stint but my masters student was great other than right at the end when I had to beat both him and his masters comittee into shape which was no big deal.
  6. It is so. I came back yesterday, I was so swamped with other stuff I got out of the habit of coming here and stopped for a while..... Glad to back
  7. What? Buying stuff or riding bikes? I plan to keep doing both indefinitely
  8. Giant Anthem X 29er 1 Late birthday and early Christmas present :jbl:
  9. It's actually surprisingly computer intensive but you may get away with it depending on what you mean by old... The graphics can be dumbed down though so no real worries I guess.
  10. Thanks for asking! Racing went ok, I didn't die but I did not do as well as I would have liked. Basically I had sprints and I had endurance but in the hard 30sec-2min effort range I just could not recover fast enough and even CAT5 (novice) racing around here is very competitive. Eg I did one relatively flat/rolling hour race where the peloton was at 25+mph for the entire 35 miles which is bloody fast. I'm going to give it a few more seasons. I'm going to be self coached from now on and will be managing my own training plans after quitting my coach 2 days ago (more money for stereo...?). He failed to point out that the 30s-2min range needed special workouts or assign me any of them since I gave up on last season sometime in mid July. As far as miles go I am not sure but I am like 7000+km since I started logging stuff into Training peaks in mid-October 2009. I haven't gotten my usual 300+km weeks in because of travel and visiting family.
  11. x2 on the RowPro. I had one for a while until I started really riding and found my "sport" which I now do attached to a computer most of the time too (damn winter). damn I'm coming here again....
  12. I specifically stated previously that government guidance is allowed to change the usage and also that contracts can modify this.
  13. The issue isn't with the software company but the government who paid for it and owns it and controls who's an authorized user or not. If you are using it for something not covered by the government contract or at least government direction then you're not authorized to use it for that use so therefore for that use you are an unauthorized user. For example it's a massive no-no to use a software license that the government has paid for (say a 80K+ CFD license) to perform work for another client without making the other client buy their own licenses even if the license is just sitting there unused. Universities buy things with grants which are entirely different beasts because the stuff bought with them belongs to the university (usually) not the person doing the funding. Doing non-grant work with universities is generally a massive PITA (but it sounds like your machine shop has got it down pat). You've got it all sorted (as usual) Kevin.
  14. more specifically the bass impact....
  15. one thing I don't get is why you can't stack plugins. Everything they are doing can be done using straight up impulse convolution so why not stack the impulses do the convolutions and then come out with a combined impulse and be done with it.... or am I misunderstanding. I'd love for them to come up with one that is digital in digital out and a convolve plugin and I'd be all set.
  16. My wife and I got up early to head over to the Air Force Cycling Classic Crystal Ride which was a very cool ride that shut down the highway and let you ride on 395 on your way over to the Air Force Memorial and around the Pentagon in a 12.5km loop. As I was about the head out the door I discovered that my front tire had gond flat (tube failure) and proceeded to get a bit snarky for a while as I changed it. Worked out fine. It was massively hot though (90ish) We got to do the ride but Meaghan pulled out early so I did too. Then we rode home. Only ended up doing 80km for the day which is shorter than the 110 or so planned but not unexpected. After that we headed back to watch mens and womens pro races which were very cool. Then a dinner of sushi. All in all a great day.
  17. rode 65km then went and watched the North American pros do a 82km criterion. Holy shit they are fast. Doing 75 or 87.5 km tomorrow and then watching the same pros do it all over again followed by some of the top women racers kicking some ass too.
  18. I hope she feels better soon.

    Canjam 2010.

Yeah I end up feeling dazed, greasy, stuffed and oddly satisfied....
  20. Main circuit breaker trip value will do the trick
  21. While you have a point, I do a lot of that too (did 30km yesterday, will do 40-50km today and tomorrow and 100km on Sunday). When you blow $2000+ on power meters you rather have them work on all your bikes. I've got a stage race in 2 weeks and it has a TT and a road race and I want to be able to get the numbers on both.
  22. a bunch of bike shit. This time shit I didn't want to have to buy
  23. (As stated above) The roll off reduces pre-ringing and digital "sizzle" that can happen when music was poorly downsampled or sampled in the first place. Makes them music sound more "natural" if it has those issues, if it doesn't then it may or may not be making it sound worse but it's usually a smaller effect.
  24. Vlad and I had talked about it but I don't think we are anymore. There is a pro bike race in Reston that I'm planning to go to tomorrow and then I'm doing a metric century on Sunday (hopefully).
  25. Yesterday I installed my new Quarq power meter on my bike. I actually installed the sensors on 2 of the 3 bikes so I can switch it around at will. I tried to install it on my Time Trial bike to discover that my damn TT bike has a incompatible bottom bracket, I now have to order a bunch of shit to convert it and a whole new crankset of the bike for when the power meter isn't on it. Hey what's another couple hundred bucks.... :palm: Vicki: Good luck with the wind insurance. Those numbers are aweful high but you do live in coastal Florida. My insurance is around 1/10th that up here in VA.
