  1. The Easter spiral cut smoked ham remnants went into the last batch of Green Split Pea Soup (A/K/A Swedish penicillin). Largely the same recipe. Still have four or five quarts in the freezer. We like all the solids minced up so it's a thick smooth soup. Better than my mother's.
  2. Yesterday was Soup Day. Time to reduce the rest of the bone-in spiral cut smoked glazed ham to Lentil Soup. My lentils got sorted, washed, and picked last night and were soaking until this morning. Ham came off the bone and was cubed. Couple pounds of cubed ham ready to be minced: Bone went into the pot with the lentils, fresh cracked black pepper and sea salt, dried basil, marjoram, thyme, chervil sage, a bump of fresh grated nutmeg, three bay leaves, Hungarian sweet paprika, worchestershire sauce, vegetable bullion cubes, and water. 3. Soup Day, starting last night. Big pot of homemade lentil and ham soup starting with sorting, cleaning and soaking the lentils. Clean down the hambone, which goes into the pressure cooker with the lentils, the herbs and spice. Puree the lentils after pulling the hambone and the bay leaves. Prep all the ham, carrot, onions, and celery and sweat them down in some EVOO in the bottom of the big stock pot. Then it's everybody back into the hot tub with some chicken broth. Hot crusty bread. Glass of cab. Delish. Seven quarts more lentil soup in the freezer; priceless.
  4. Congratulations, Duggeh, well done. Err, Dr. Duggeh? Me? Drafted an affidavit of incapacity for my father and filed on a couple of axes.
  5. You must be flushed with pleasure now.
  6. Happy Birthday again!
  7. Should be able to get out of its own way. Two liters is a nice size for a four. I guess we're past the RX7s.
  8. What kind of a motor are they putting in those these days?
  9. Had to balance my load. BTW, on the Kindle/Reader thing, I got the new model Sony Reader last month after they announced their deal with Google for access to all the old books Google scanned from the NYC library and before Sony's 100 free download promo on their own old books ended. I like the Reader's appearance, controls, and page view better than the Kindle's. The Sony old books are great, but the Google old books are more problematic. Both sets have titles they might as well have skipped. BTW, I find the Reader is a particularly nice platform for reading poetry. Yesterday, I discovered a new virtue for the Reader when my eBooks software recognized the manual disc for my Suunto X9i wristop computer with GPS in the disc drive. On a hunch, I was able to transfer the english pdf version of the manual to the Reader and work with it there. This is going to be very helpful as the X9i is extremely capable and complex and having the whole manual in very portable form is muy nifty. Maybe the Kindle can do this with pdf files, too.
  10. Lodge Signature ten inch cast iron skillet with stainless handles.
  11. Sold my 1993 Honda CBR 600 F2.
  12. Spa = sex ; this connection should never be fucked with.
  13. It's like Randall Made Knives all over again.
  14. Swept out the garage twice to get rid of the winter crud. Swapped out the winter tires for the summer tires on the Outback. Changed oil and filter on the Outback. Drained and ran the fuel out on both snow blowers and changed the oil on the four-stroke and put them away for the summer. Got the fifteen gallons of accumulated drained engine oil ready to go over to recycling. Took off the battery saver, started and pulled the F2 out of the shed and into the garage for easy access. Shifted stuff around in the shed, got the Wee-Strom off the battery saver, started it and got it accessible for the riding season. Since its 1330hrs local, I guess I'll have my breakfast oatmeal.
  15. "Woodface" - Crowded House This music has aged extremely gracefully.
  16. Last night I quaffed one of New Belgium Brewry's seasonals (along with lamb and shrimp kabobs, gyros, saffron rice and belly dancing; it was a cultural kind of evening ): The ale was reasonably good but unremarkable (to a lover of dark, nasty strong brews ), but I did appreciate the dedication:

  18. Fritata of eggbeaters seasoned with Braggs, lemon juice, fresh cracked black pepper, and Penzey's Fox Point. A little half & half for the fluff. Filled with crumbled goat cheese, crumbled bacon, sliced onions, and pine nuts. Smart Balance and EVOO in the pan, sauteed a bud of diced garlic, and in goes the egg mixture. Whisked until the eggs started cooking, flipped with the plate trick, and finished in a 375F oven. Served with toasted whole grain bread, fresh hot dark roast coffee, and fresh medium salsa. Excellent!
  19. Nope, at HeadCase, total. I'd much rather be exploring my inner cosmos with that thing-hickie.
  20. Ooops . . .#9767; I had 204 posts before that last one.
  21. I liked the original two-ball's face balanced mallet head with low CG and natural alignment (which works with my pendulum), and the elastomer insert was on a par with other offerings of the period. I did not like the reflectivity of the stainless head in bright sun, although not enough to buy a black one when those came out. The loft and feel seemed reasonable, and I had confidence in being able to get a good roll if I did my part. The Black Series just makes everything significantly better. Since I am not seeing any drivers that inspire me to replace my 460 Launcher (if I make a good swing, it works), I figured I'd go after the short end of my game.
  22. Multi-material construction, milled 1025 carbon steel body, tungsten steel floorplate, elastomer core of insert is different composition, hogged out hosel permits more weight redistribution to floorplate, satin nickel low glare finish. I have used the old model for the last three years, and this is quite a wholistic improvement.
  23. The view from my office window; 31st of March, 35F with light rain as a late winter storm barrels off the plains at us, Chopin nocturnes on the big rig, the giant bare oak outside my office window captures the mood fully.
