    new tool album

I've been though it several times and it's a very good album. This just might be their best work.
  2. Well, if I hadda choose, I think 4 probably has the best bod of the bunch but #5 is holding that towel quite well but they're all ivy gals.....man, it's a tough choice. Any of them got a hot sister? Which one has the richest parents? I need more data!!
  3. They do have a way of "shaping" young minds don't they?? Yet, it is one beautiful campus and a PU sheepskin does carry a bit of weight. Pretty strong alumni network, too.
  4. Hmm, I'll give that a try. Everything is so awkward and foreign right now. I feel like a toddler learning to take his first steps. Wonder how long before I begin to get "comfortable" much less play something recognizable! It's fun and even relaxing.
  5. It sounds like a sweet choice IF I'm certain to add the speakers. OTOH, I can see the benefits of going the route you suggest. Spoke with Kevin this am and he's given me the lowdown on this one. Really tempted but at the price point, I need to be certain as it won't be easy to move something that expensive. Man, I'm torn! Tough decision and unfortunately, the clock is ticking!
  6. Yep. Guess I consider you guys my support group. Knew I could count on Head-Case!
  7. Ah, I see. Princeton!q Wish I'd had that opportunity.
  8. Why do I just feel as though I just lost my virginity?? I'm pumped! Can't wait to get home and get to practice!
  9. Some thoughts to be sure. Kinda like the loop out on my slam. Not sure I want to sell the GCHA as it makes the office a bit more enjoyable with that usb. Hmmm...more cans and music. Maybe Alex will part with one of those L3000's?? More music wouldn't hurt either but I've added 20 CD's in the last two weeks and the missus is getting a bit peeved! Guess the itch doesn't need scratching but man, it does itch! Might just have to break out the old Luxman preamp and Hafler 500 amp to run the speakers and save the dough for something else. Thanks for the suggestions. That Cary sure seems like a good idea though!
  10. Thanks for the tips on the D. That's part of my problem. Because of the weak finger, I have trouble staying straight up/perpendicular to the fretboard. It usually dampens the adjacent string and ruins things. I'm gonna keep at it though. I've wanted to learn to play for years now. Lots of wasted time but while I may never be "good", I'm going to enjoy myself. Can't wait for my first callous! Actually, I'm seeing a little whitish change at the tip of my index finger. Maybe that's my FIRST!!!??
  11. I've been doing a good bit of google work and happened upon GuitarNoise. Nice site. Very informative. Struggling with a few chords though. For the life of me, I can't seem to work out the A and D. Never really thought I had "big" fingers but those two are giving me fits. My big problem is that my ring finger has been dislocated several times and the ligaments are shot. Makes it a tough one. So I've still got a ways to go with the sore fingers?! I'm doing about 1-2 hours per night. How long do you think it will take to get past that soreness....well, it's almost a bit numb now?
  12. Well, you can't go wrong then!! Btw, are you at Princeton??
  13. Okay, I've been debating streamlining a bit if not downright downsizing. I find that I don't use "multiple" amps and sources nearly enough to justify having them sitting around so I'm thinking about a move to get a single amp that can handle various needs. Right now, I'm using nothing but headphones but likely will be adding speakers somewhere down the road plus I'd like to try the K1000 sometime. With that in mind, should I part with my MPX3 slam and GCHA and just pick up something that's a bit more flexible? Say the SLI-80 Signature F-1? It seems to fit the bill and from what I've read it's a solid performer with no real weaknesses. So the question.....go for it or stand pat and buy more music and/or headphones instead?
  14. Come on guys....use your heads(no not that one). Take #3. If she's a Princeton chick, she's going to be able to support you in a way that your headphone hobby demands. Looks don't last forever!!
  15. Hahahaha!! Too good!!! I'm gonna enjoy this thread! Keep 'em comin'!
  16. Actually, got an Alvarez acoustic for fathers day so buying isn't an issue. Now, the sore fingers are another matter altogether! Always wanted to learn but never had the time while in school. Now I begin! Watch out SRV!!!!
  17. There should be a law....."limit one per customer". ayt999, just send me one of your THREE pair and I'll be in compliance!!
  18. Oddly enough, I've decided to take up the guitar myself. Figured I'd start with the acoustic and go from there. Any words of advice from you experienced musicians?
  19. Oh my.....!!! :o :o Btw...BACK UP PSYCHO!! He was replying to me! If he parts with one, I got dibs!!
  20. I've got several ipods including the new ipod video and the Creative ZVM and can honestly say that I don't think you can make a mistake with either. Sonically, I find very little difference. Overall, I prefer the GUI of the ZVM to the ipod but the scrolling is better with the wheel on the ipod vs the strip. I can do both equally well but the ipod is a bit easier IMO. For video, the ZVM's picture is better but as has been reported elsewhere, when the angle of viewing is changed, the ipod starts to take the lead. I don't tend to view at an angle so it's a moot point for me. The ZVM is a bit more boxey than the ultra sleek ipod. Tons more accessories for the ipod, too. Guess the fact that everyone seems to have an ipod keeps the development going. In conclusion, I find a lot of good in all my portables. Kids take the ipods and I keep the ZVM. If I had to choose? Well, I don't so it's not an issue is it? My advice is to go to DAPreview and do some reading. Look at the features you find valuable/desireable and make the choice based on that. I will say that when the ZVM finally dies, I'll probably go with a flash player and forget all the video, picture stuff. I just don't use it that much so getting a tough, durable flash player that I can romp with would be my choice next time around. Good luck.
  21. Two Singlepowers?? Take a sick puppy to have multiple amps from the same manufacturer......yeah, you know who you are!!!
  22. Problem is I'm trying to downsize. Too much gear and not enough ear/time to enjoy it all. Then there's that Zana D that has been in the works seemingly forever. It's whispering in my ear as well.
  23. Man, I gotta get me a pair of the L3000's to see what the fuss is about. One thing missing has always been a really good pair of closed cans. Btw, nice pics but I got a bit queesy seeing those babies in pieces!
  24. Got an email from the manufacturer. ETA on the DAC3 is 6-8 weeks barring an unforeseen complication/delay. They WILL be offering the DAC via their online/web store as well. Also, I asked about taking Paypal and the email claimed the topic had been referred to another department for evaluation but that they'd probably be doing this as well. I'm sure form of payment doesn't mean much to you single guys but for those husbands like myself who would prefer to keep the amounts he's spending on these "toys" to himself and away from his significant other, this would be a welcome addition to the services offered!

    AKG 701

Honestly, these continue to be among my favorites. Problem is that since the GS-1K's arrived, nothing else is getting much time! I think, for me, the bottom line with the 701's is that they really are "balanced". Nothing really stands out and nothing seems lacking/deficient. Just wonderful all around cans. Problem for me is it's hard to keep so many cans when they aren't given the air time they deserve but which ones do I sell?? Tough choice to be sure. I love 'em all but for different reasons.
