Any suggestions on how to properly clean out a battery compartment that had a minor battery leak? There's not much residue, but was curious what my best options are.

Acetone, maybe? The only time I've had to clean a battery compartment, I took the compartment out of the item, so I just washed it out and let it dry for few days.

Acetone might be a bit much for this. I'm not sure what you can use that would neutralize the crap from the batteries... I would clean it out as best you can. Maybe wipe it out with some alcohol or something once you have it pretty clean. I would also take something like DeOxit or contact cleaner and clean the metal contact parts.

Actually what little i have have i just brush it off with the metal green cleaning pad thingy used for dishes.

ixnay on acetone - it may dissolve your battery compartment if it's plastic. Sorry about that - I completely forgot that bit about acetone.

You can do a search on google. The most useful link I found was www.wikihow.com/Clean-Battery-Leaks/Spills. What you do many depends on whether it was an alkaline or acid battery that spilled and it's unclear which it was by your description.

I always use 91% isopropyl alcohol on the plastic and the metal parts with a thin Q-Tip.
