July 14, 200916 yr Apparently on July 1, Amazon started selling some new AKG phones. I have no idea how new, but I just noticed the ad for it for the first time. I find the 172 and 272 (both closed back) the most interesting myself, but I'm sure Fitz will get them all and tell us how they are.
July 14, 200916 yr And Amazon has some of them on sale too: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?plgroup=3&docId=1000400581 I'm guessing someone at AKG missed the memo that announced there was already a "K340" headphone that they'd already made.....

July 14, 200916 yr Author Those of you interested in high-end open phones may also be interested in the 142 or the 242. There's a link under the pic in the original post, and it should be pointed out that there's a claim code for the 10% off, it's not just automatic.I believe K171HD and K271HD are home version of K171MKII and K272MKII??When I first read of them, I assumed they were upgrades, but you could be right. Or both. Edited July 14, 200916 yr by Dusty Chalk
July 14, 200916 yr Hmm, interesting, that top model is into 701/2 prices. Wonder how soon this will be FOTM
July 14, 200916 yr Hrmmm, all four in the HD line (open: K142, K242; closed: K172, K272) use "Varimotion" drivers, which the K601 and K701 apparently used before. AKG's pricing strategy on these is also verrrrrry interesting, I wonder if they plan to phase out the Kx01 line completely..... I'm officially interested.
July 14, 200916 yr IIRC, the HD line is just home versions of the mkII line, and both have been available on eBay for a while at much lower prices.
July 14, 200916 yr This is just AKG trying to capitalize on the "HD" craze by releasing the same phones with minor differences. Fundamentally the same phones as the K271 et al.
