  1. Radio Paradise app 3.0 now allows you to stream @320kbps AAC, and can pre-cache up to 12 hours of "broadcast" that you can listen to, without using "your data plan" - ideal for your commute, or that transatlantic flight. Nice upgrade, and can AirPlay as well (or mirror if you want the slideshow on your Apple TV)

  3. Fresh cherries were available in Michigan, so I just pitted a pound and put them up for cocktail cherries. I will use these almost exclusively in Manhattans, so they are soaking in a simple syrup made with water and Turbinado sugar, to which was added 3/4 cup of Rittenhouse 100 rye and 1/4 cup Antica Carpano sweet vermouth. They are now cooling on the stove and will be jarred and refrigerated for sampling tomorrow night.

  4. Said Goodbye to an old friend today. Sold my 1990 BMW325i! I've had her for 14 years of loyal service and even though she still drove like a dream, I was ready for a change. A decade or so ago a buddy asked why I keep buying manual trannys and I told him that it's about the only sporty thing left in my life (half joking )but I used to alway tell guys that until you've spun a car at least once, you have no idea where it's limits are. Well, my new car's a Prius and I think that just about says it all.

  5. More food truck food. Cajun Catfish over red beans and rice.

  6. And In related news, the new mixlr for iPad app, apart from having the obligatory "abstract" icon (having an 'M' in it is soo "representationalist") seems to be able to AirPlay the Test Tone showreels to an appleTV without repeated buffering, compared to previously, so there's that.

  7. It was a good review, which is rare, so it should have been at the top of the heap!

  8. Well, I used the V1/18.5 combo a ton on our trip to Gettysburg. Even Lauren liked it... It was great to have when she didn't want to carry around the D700. Based on reviews, I was a little concerned about the depth-of-field control when shooting wide open due to the small sensor size. But it performed well enough and is actually pretty forgiving, which is nice for a hack like me. The only thing I don't love is the auto white balance, as most of the pictures lack some warmth. But once I start getting used to using a grey card or processing the photos, it should be fine. Here are a few SOC shot in .jpg running full manual mode. Even with the cost of the new lens, the total investment is under $500, and I have no doubt that this far out performs most P&S or camera phones. When all is said and done, it certainly could approach a consumer grade DSLR total investment, and one could argue it doesn't match even a crop-sensor DSLR, but the size and flexibility fantastic and is a nice complement to Lauren's D700.
