Good advice Al. I thought the Eagle Rare 17 was good but not as nice as the Weller or last year's Sazerac 18 or Handy. I guess I am going to have to search out the Stagg after all. Anyone like to ship to Texas?

Yeah, I figured that. On the other hand, I was doing a million other things at the time so it was either the bread machine or nothing. Cool!

I used one of those packets of active dry yeast. The directions for the bread maker called for active dry yeast (no proofing mentioned) so I figured it didn't rise because the yeast had an "best by" date of Nov 09. Guess I haven't done much baking in a while. Do you recommend always proofing first even for a bread machine? I don't really want to use the "instant" bread machine yeast. I suppose I should make real bread in an oven. I suck at baking.

Tried to make bread in the bread maker with "expired" yeast, it didn't work so well.
