To RMAF and Back Again...A Speed Demon's US Southwest Tour
Wow, great pics! I had my first taste of the Rocky Mountain region this past fall, and just loved it. I hope to get back there soon!

A bit phallic, for sure ...

Heh, sorry. Keep in mind when reading my posts that we psychiatrists are goofier than any of our patients. This is well known among health care workers; Deepak and boomana can verify that, I'm sure.

Sure, white out is ok, or white out tape, just no erasing. Sometimes I just take scissors and cut out the part I don't like, such as when the pt complains that I suck. Then I write what I like better and tape it on top of the bad stuff to cover it up. Sometimes I like to write secret messages in invisible UV ink.

That's a nice looking pencil! It reminds me of my engineering student days, a loooong time ago. I really miss the cool pencils and calculators! Now everything has to be in ink - no erasing allowed in my world! I don't even think I'd impale myself on that because I would never need to recap it! I carry one of these Rotring multipens for fun, but rarely get to use it. It's kinda cool because it uses gravity to select which thing to push out when you click.

What did you do today?
What a drag! No friendly neighbors you can call, who happen to be retired and home all day, and also handy around the house? Or at least can check the house every now and then?

I once stabbed myself with one of those - trying to recap in a big hurry, missed, and drew blood from my finger. Anyone know a good lawyer?

I love La Fin Du Monde ... nice one, my man! My pen of choice ... I buy them by the box, as well!

iPad apps
Thanks, Vicki! I am sure you have had your share of run-ins with hospital/health care bureaucracy!

iPad apps
Called me back pretty quickly, I'm impressed. But they said I have to download their special proprietary VPN software, and it only works on Windows or Mac, not iOS. She welcomed me to try using the iPad Citrix app, but she didn't think it would work. And she wasn't aware of any other ID or password besides the usual one I'd use when using their VPN software.

iPad apps
Decided to give it a shot. This is the beauty of the Federal government hospital when it comes to technology and semi -unusual requests. Don't read on if you're bored by lame phone call rants, but this might be entertaining for some: I looked on our web site for whom to call for VPN issues. Called that 800#. Had a choice of 7 prompts, none of which fit, hit 0 for operator, as suggested. Put on hold and listened to patriotic marching band music, first up was 'The Halls of Montezuma'. Heard a computerized apology for the delay, as 'there is a higher than normal call volume' (there is ALWAYS a higher than normal call volume when I call them!). Next up was 'When the Saints Go Marching In'. Operator answered, 'Hello, I would like to access our medical chart and email by establishing a VPN on my iPad'. He paused and thought for a few seconds. 'I don't think we deal with that, let me check, please hold.' More 'When the Saints Go Marching In'. He came back ... 'so what is that, an iPad?' 'Yes'. 'That's a Mac, right?'. 'No, it's called iOS, it's like a big iPhone.' 'Let me check on that.' More 'When the Saints Go Marching In'. 'We don't handle that, please call your local hospital IT.' 'Thank you.' Took a deep breath, called my local hospital IT. They picked up pretty quickly. No marching band music. 'I'd like to access the hospital chart using my iPad over a VPN. I have a Citrix client app and I think if I can get the settings and passwords, it should work.' 'Let me take your info and I'll create a trouble ticket.' (Typing noises in background). 'VTN?' 'No, VPN, a Virtual Private Network, so that I can get into the chart and email remotely.' 'What is your PC's EE number?' 'Uhhh, I can get that for you, but is it necessary? I would use my iPad and want to access remotely, not at the hospital.' 'Yeah, you're right, I don't need that.' (Lots of furious typing). 'Ok, I've created a trouble ticket, it's xxxx. A tech will contact you shortly.' 'Thank you!' Should be interesting ... actually, I was expecting to get the door slammed in my face right away. So, getting farther than expected, already!

Now THAT might work! She is quickly arriving at mid-life crisis age (if women get that!) and I've been pointing out that whenever we go to a coffee shop or book store, all the cool young people seem to be carrying Macs now! Really, I think it'll probably sell itself. I told her to go to BB, then pick up, hold, and use the MBP and MBA, then do the same with any PC that's there. She's got to live with it, so it's her choice, but I think like me, she'll see that it just makes sense. As stated here previously, seeing and handling the MBA or MBP makes you just want one. Thanks for the help!

Ye Macce Threade
Is it the way the OS is written that makes it very difficult to create and spread virus? I've read some say that, and others say it's because there aren't enough users to make it worthwhile. I'd love to continue to not run an antivirus program. I just feel naked ...

Ye Macce Threade
Have had my first Mac (a mini) for a few months now. Doing great. But ... does everyone really not run any antivirus software at all? Is it truly just not a threat on a Mac?

What did you do today?
That is my main reason for wanting to get a Mac for her; but not sure that would help convince her, since it helps me, not her! That might be more convincing. Also thinking the multitouch is so much easier to use day to day. So what convinced your husband?

Nice job! I'm working on converting my wife. Any tips?

Heh, definitely! We have much worse than that for that purpose, though. I'm thinking the naked in the bathtub pics should do the trick.

Raked. This was a few seconds before my son hit my daughter's face with a rake, she had a melt down, and it all fell apart. But I don't post those pictures!

Need advice on 2008 Infiniti G35x all wheel drive I'm considering buying soon, please
I missed that you needed an automatic tranny. Before buying my Legacy GT, I test drove the auto and didn't like it much. It wasn't very responsive during acceleration, shifted a bit harshly, and just didn't seem to be in the right gear too often. I got the manual and like it a lot. I didn't drive my friend's G35x, but he has an auto and likes it.

Great pic, tyrion! I'm returning home from a 2 day continuing ed conference in UW Madison. Really great meeting, learned a lot. Current stuff and research phase stuff that'll probably come through in several years concerning pharmacogenetics and how it affects metabolism and therefore choice of meds; also, immunology/inflammation and how it offers a possible common mechanism by which it affects many aspects of our well being, including, among others, diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, fibromyalgia, chronic pain syndromes, and Depression/Bipolar Disorder. I'm really goofy, but boy, it's really great stuff to me ...

I love my Legacy GT. My buddy has a 07 G35x and he loves it. Neither would trade for the other. G35 a bit more luxurious. Legacy a bit more rugged. G35 he says leans toward RWD and adjusts in real time. Legacy always AWD but I think has limited slip diff anyway. Have to check on that though. Both nice cars, I just think you have to drive both for a bit and you'll just know.
