Robot vacuum cleaner, or not?
I have the first gen Roomba but have not checked in w/ the latest ones. At that time, about 6-7 years ago (?) I thought it was so cool at first, but over time, used it less and less, and until it finally just sat after a few months. First off, it is very much a sweeper rather than a vacuum cleaner. Not bad for an occasional pick up, but not a thorough cleaning. Also, it would get jammed by rug corners and cords (electrical and curtains, etc...). The rotating brush would scoop them up and get wrapped up into the roller. So I'd have to stay nearby and rescue it every now and then. And before using it, I'd have to go around the room and make sure the path was clear of things that could jam it. Finally, it'll only do one room at a time, so you'd have to check in to see if it's done, then move it from room to room to get the whole house. By that time, I'd just as soon vacuum the regular way. I suppose if you're sitting on your computer or doing something in the same room, and you don't have crap all over the place like I do, it would save some of the manual work for a light pick up, and you can make sure it doesn't get snagged on something. And maybe since that time, it's improved - I really haven't checked in a while. Last I checked, it could be programmed to turn itself on, clean, find its dock to recharge, park, and turn itself off. That would be very cool, but again, not sure if it wouldn't get snagged on something while you were out. If I can find it, I can send it your way and you can try it out. But not sure where I saw it last, my wife might have tossed it. Last I remember, it was cowering under the guest bed. Also, not sure about the condition of the NiCad batteries after all this time. I'm going to wait for Rosey from the Jetsons next time ...

Thanks Brent and Bryan! Brief listen last night, they're as smooth and sweet as I remember. The seller was a really nice guy. Just had his reasons, is all. I'm very fortunate!

I wondered about that - I'm still running XP. I ordered the Crucial 64GB and feel that capacity is all I really need. Hopefull it's ok. Regarding wear leveling - you can't defrag a SSD, I take it?- Any Drupal geeks out there?
I thought you meant this, at first.- Post the last thing you bought!
Pussywillow, can we drink his FFF when we get together, then?- Post the last thing you bought!
Ouch. A costly mistake.- Ye Macce Threade
That looks really great. Plug in up to 4 existing HDs (I have a few scattered about), access from any web browser via their included online service, so no messing round with IP addresses, apps for your mobile device to access the HDs (iPad for me), desktop app for drag and drop on your PC, cloud/mobile printing, including from iPad, built in media streaming to PS3 or XBox (just got an Xbox for Christmas!), and to any HTML5 device (iPad again), auto mirroring for backup to a second pogoplug which can be in a different location. All for $99 each. That just seems perfect for a general user like me. Am I missing something?- ChiLiquiFi

I was looking into those when I saw morphsci sell his old one to postjack. That postjack is too quick for me! They do seem a bit pricey brand new, but they seem to resolve all my needs at once. I'll look into that vs NAS or RAID1. I do like the idea of having each of our laptops backed up automatically when we're on the network via wifi and also having online access to it via the 'net.- Ye Macce Threade
This is exactly my plan for my wife and me. The missing piece now is the the big external storage/backup at home. How do you like to set that part up? RAID? What Tier/level RAID makes the most sense for a routine home user? Or just a big external HD attached to a basic NAS system?- Deals
Every beagle I've ever met barks constantly. Sweet dogs, yes, but man, they bark a lot. And howl.- Ye Macce Threade
Cool, thanks! The casing looks different - I can't see the mounting holes, plus it was not listed under 'laptop hard drives' like the others were.- Post the last thing you bought!
Wow, that is a nice haul!- What are you listening to Part Two
I heard Chris Rea 'Fool If You think It's Over' several times a week for six weeks on the radio when we were in Kazakhstan 5 years ago. Not sure why it was on their active play list so much, but it was kind of surreal. I got to liking him - I even got our driver to burn me a couple of Chris Rea CDs. - Apple Tablet
