  1. Larry, I enjoyed your impressions on the ES3X. Its great reading how an event or experience can catch one off guard, and change the perception of how you enjoy your equipment. I think that people who have stayed dedicated to this hobby for longer periods of time experience moments like this and that these events lead to the overall heightened appreciation of our own listening experience. Although GPH stated that your testing methodology for testing burn-in was less than desireable, I feel that testing methodology in itself is undesireable in this audio realm. It is too unreliable and flat out impossible to create static rules and methods that will extract the same sonic perception about audio equipment to everyone. However, I love reading honest impressions and experiences, especially from those who have enjoyed and lived with their equipment for long periods of time. When you read Darth Nuts review on the SR-007 you cannot help but feel how much the man loves and appreciates his gear and music. An enlightening read beyond the statistics that reviews sometimes try(and many cases fail) to provide.
  2. Ahh i see..so welded plates as opposed to plates that are crimped or tabbed. Thanks, this will help me to identify the different tubes. Wish there was a way to get the nicer made old models for cheaper. One quick question, does the BHSE require the four tubes to have matched cathode current?
  3. When you guys reference EL34 XF2/XF1's for the Blue Hawaii do you guys mean these? NOS Mullard EL34 EL-34 Tubes xf1 xf2 xf3 xf4 Quad Pair Or are there specific EL34 XF2/XF1s? Im assuming they do not make current production XF2/XF1s, but they do make current production EL34s like the ones Nate had on the BHSE at the recent meet. The prices of these NOS tubes are out of control though.
  4. Elephas, I look foward to your impressions of the BHSE compared to your ES-1. I also look foward to spritzers impressions with his SR-007s.(especially pictures since your amp will have silver:p) Im hoping the BHSE will be the amp that gets most out of the way sonically. The tremendous power that the BHSE is capable of should be able to allow the O2s that I own to function at their highest potential. (Im hoping) that this will create highly distinguished tonal contrasts, attenuations, reverberations, diffusions, textural details, etc. within the recording that I listen to. I do not want a "musical" sounding amp, but an amp that derives musicality from the recording itself. My favorite headphones are the O2s because to me they are simply the most focused headphone i've ever listened too. My musical appreciation comes in the awareness of details and focus in my music. These are the traits that become "musical" to me. I long to hear the effortless sound of my O2s right now.
  5. What is the output voltage on the BHSE? As i remember reading the SRM-T2 has an output voltage of more than 600v, more voltage than any other stax offerings. I guess this is why the T2 is said to be the best stax brand amp ever produced.
  6. I know that many people enjoy the SRM-717, but what exactly makes it a better amplifier than for example a SRM-006t? Is it the higher output voltage?
  7. gotta love the hi-rez pics of the orpheus tho...
  8. Hope you'll get a better chance to listen to the differences, as i don't recall you having that much time with them before you traded for the k1000. Would like to hear your opinion when you decide.
  9. Catscratch, thats pretty awesome. Not everyone can appreciate and understand their gear well. Looks like you're on the right track to enjoying your gear alot. What speakers did you listen too by the way?
  10. Were the tubes on the bhse at the meet the stock ones justin included? Damn, no all silver bhse? I don't care much for two tone either.
  11. very nice looking, now i want to see an all silver one.
  12. Ahh, okay i didnt know that APL guts everything except for the transport. Makes sense to me now that they would sound different. Is the AKM dacs that are in the NWO 3.0 and apl 3910 the same ones used in esoteric stacked dacs like the D05? I wonder if the D05 then would sound similar to the APL units?
  13. Grawk, yeah thanks for the lookout. I emailed him a couple questions on the player, and he never responded. The ad just dissappeared a couple days after i inquired about the player.
  14. i was looking on audiogon the other day, and there were a couple apl denon 3910's for sale. On one of them the owner described the player as only being able to play 70% of redbook cds(i guess only able to read 70%?). So im not too sure about the reliability of the player. But used they seem to go for reasonable prices. If you decide to upgrade anytime soon...
  15. Great, you must be quite happy with it then. When my amp comes im going to try and audition some sources. Esoteric seems interesting to me as im looking for a player that is transparent/fairly neutral and has strong dynamics. Andys APL modded Esoteric sounded like this to me, but im not as rich as he probably is, so im hoping that a stock unit will give me close to that defined/dynamic sound from the O2s. Also hopefully the BHSE driving the O2s will wake it up and make it truly come alive.
  16. spritzer, are you still enjoying that APL modded Denon?
  17. ok, well my original inquiry was the difference between using just a power cable, or using just a power conditioner. Or using both together. I mean, the whole idea of using a conditioner for electricity sounds strange to me. I mean i have a couple servers running in my house 24/7 + wifi from them but how much noise is my gear going to pick up from that? By getting a power regenerator like the PPP, will this have the same effect as having a dedicated line? Basically removing the imperfections that a system can pick up?
  18. yeah, i should audition and see if i can detect any difference. I stumbled across a review of the PS audio PPP over on the other site, which got me curious. It seems that many find it a clear improvment when integrated with their gear. But i mean it only makes sense that your gear would suffer if there is lack of current. Im only trying to understand what these devices attempt to do, and am not sure if they designed to provide a stable current to your gear, or if they are trying to do something else, which some may find complete bs and just creative marketing? I'd be happy to save my money and plug into an ordinary outlet or use a stock power cable, if this was a better choice.
  19. well i guess these will not make a better change for sound i take it? I was only curious, as i've never had any experience with any of these.
  20. I was wondering if aftermarket powercables strive to achieve the same effect as a power conditioner and vice versa? I've seen some users only use one or the other so im not sure if they are suppost to compliment each other by using them together, or substitute each other by using only one or the other? Can anyone clarify this? I've been looking at the Shunyata Hydra 4, but was wondering if a better power cable is all I need.
  21. Nice, can't wait for arrival! (for you guys)
  22. That is true. What concerns are there with the new line?
  23. Knuckledragger, Pics of all the new models are on the grado labs website minus the PS1000. The RS1i looks like the buttonless version RS1s, nothing really different that i can tell. Although I prefer electrostatics, grados/alessandros interested me from the very start and i enjoy my ms1 to this very day. With the PS1000 coming, maybe its time to invest in a dynamic rig too. Hopefully this new offering will not be like the GS1000. Not a great can imo.
