  1. It's pretty good. Will need more spins to make a final verdict.
  2. That Ocean7 is badass. I think my 6.5 inch wrist would be better suited for the Blackwater than the LM-7 unfortunately. $799 is a good deal for a watch of that quality. 1000 meter WR! I would never be able to test that, but good to know it can do it.
  3. Do you still have the Blackwater? I just picked one up off WUS. It has the Benrus style Type I dial though, so it's like a hybrid of your two with a Blackwater case and Paradive dial. Wish I could afford a Paradive, but I'm hoping I will be happy with the Blackwater. And last week I picked this up: It's a Sandoz Sub with an ETA 2824-2. That picture was taken by the man who just finished installing the mods yesterday (MKII Plongeur dial, Yobokies Plongeur hands, dome sapphire crystal, and black date wheel). It's my attempt at re-creating the current MKII Sea Fighter on the cheap: http://boutique.mkii...0470-1291690049 I know many WIS scoff at these homages (not fakes!), but I just love the classic designs and some of these companies are doing it with great quality. I also have a Steinhart Ocean One Vintage Red (homage to the "Double Red" Sea Dweller) and the bang for the buck is just awesome IMO. So now I've got three 70's vintage homage divers (Double Red, Benrus Type I, and Omega PloProf) and waiting to complete my Seiko, which is an homage to the 50's Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. The Hamilton Khaki will be the only watch I have with an original design, and I may have to sell it to recoup some costs for these homages.
  4. ^ Nice Sumo. I would get that watch if my wrist weren't so skinny. I really like the Samurai as well but it is also too big for my wrist. 42mm is my limit.
  5. I'm looking forward to a new album from Feist. Right now there is just a teaser video on her website, but at the bottom there are several windows with locks that are not viewable. One says 7/25/11 so I'm guessing tomorrow that video will be available. Hopefully it's an announcement of some sort or a more in depth peek at her next LP.
  6. You are correct. I believe the first vintage style ones in gold were done on some Spanish and Polish watch forums. I think archosman's is one of those or the version done through WUS and Harold/Yobokies. I really like this newest edition from Jake B because it's a contemporary version of the Fifty Fathoms and it maintains the date wheel. Apparently Jake went through a company that does dials for some Swiss brands so it is high quality and there are 8 layers of Super-Luminova applied to it. I like that Helson Skin Diver you posted as well. Very cool homage to this vintage version of the Fifty Fathoms:
  7. Nice watch! I just ordered the silver version (SNZH55) and put down an order for one of the newest dials from Jake B on WUS. Mine will look like this in a couple of weeks: I will also pick up a Brady Straps sailcloth in black to match this version of the Blancpain: Cannot wait.
  8. The Stowa is more historically accurate (sterile dial, one of the original 5 during WWII) if you're into that aspect. But the Damasko is a nice update to the classic flieger design. Either watch is a winner.

    Deals

I'm really interested to see how Living Social/Amazon handles this deal. They're at over 600k sold, mostly from individuals doing multiple orders. People were using "deal bucks" to get them for $5 and some of them become free after referrals. I ordered a couple for $5 with deal bucks late last night, but I'm almost certain I won't get them so I stopped going for more. But I didn't want to be the only one not getting in on the action just in case it does go through. Fingers crossed.
  10. You can also buy a replacement pickup from MCM Electronics in the US here: Original Philips Optical Pickup | VAM1202 | Distributed By MCM The thing is it's only the laser assembly and housing. You will need to remove the corresponding part from the original wagon in your E5 and solder the wiring of the new one in its place. I dropped by a TV/VCR repair shop and had someone do the soldering for me and she didn't even charge because it was so simple. A 5 minute job. I had to do it this way because when I sent my transport to drarthurwells (whom Cattylink referred me to in the US), he told me nothing was wrong with it. I asked him to replace the transport anyway and he refused and sent mine back. It was still defective when it came back so I had to figure it out for myself. The player sounded good, but I was happy to get rid of it after all the hassle.
  11. Someone sold one on HF a while back and posted an interior pic: Hopefully Alex can provide more detailed pics.

  13. I came across a deal for an eMachines notebook from Wal-Mart (I know) for $298 that everyone is talking about on the deal sites. I figured I was too late and they would probably be all snatched up, but to my surprise there were several at my local WM so I picked one up this morning. Here's a thread discussing it with the specs: eMachines Laptop: Intel Pentium Dual Core T4400 2.2GHz, 15.6" LCD (1366x768), 3GB DDR2, 250GB HDD, DVDRW, WiFi, 6-cell, Win 7 Prem 64-bit $298 - SlickDeals.net Forums It has a dual core Intel Pentium T4400 2.2 Ghz and Windows 7. The rest of the specs are not mindblowing (no HDMI, no webcam, no LED backlit screen), but I guess it's good for this price. Plus it's brand new and not refurbished. I haven't opened it yet because I haven't made a final decision. But I wanted to get it before it sold out just in case. They have a 15 day return policy. The cons are the notebook itself isn't as attractive or slim as the Acer Timeline. It's definitely not as portable and the battery life pales in comparison. Pros are with the dual core Pentium, I would never have to worry if my computer would be too slow. Also it's new and already comes loaded with Win7. After taxes/env fee, this laptop is about $33 cheaper than my two options from Circuit City/Tiger Direct. It's funny because all 3 of these notebooks are made by Acer, just rebranded in the case of the other two. Do you think I should keep it or return it for the Acer Timeline? Is the dual core processor and Windows 7 pre-installed of the eMachine enough to put it over the 8 hour battery life, LED screen, webcam, 1 more gig of RAM, HDMI output of the Acer Timeline? Mostly I'm just stuck on the difference in the processors. I have no idea about the real world performance gap between a Core 2 Solo SU3500 single core processor vs. a Pentium T4400 dual core. Do I even need a Pentium dual core if I'm not gaming? Believe me I've tried to research this. I've heard many opinions saying either a) have to get dual core or if you don't do gaming and other intensive apps, single core is fine. I guess the Core 2 Solo scores a 3.5 on the Windows Experience and the Pentium T4400 has a 5.5. Again, I'm not really sure what that means for my uses.
  14. Thanks for responding. I really need to keep the price as low as possible. I know $500 isn't that much more, but I was reaching with the $350 mark in the first place. I know I could probably find an adequate more powerful desktop for cheaper, but I figure I don't do a lot of cpu intensive tasks and I'd love to have the portability. At the same time, I need something a bit stronger than a Netbook. So for the tasks I mentioned above (web, music, occasional HD video viewing), is the Acer w/ Core 2 Solo (single core) enough? Like would I be able to have a couple Firefox tabs open, a Youtube vid going, and burn a cd at the same time and it still be functional?
  15. I'm trying to decide on a notebook. I haven't purchased a computer in a long time and I am really confused by all the new processors. I intend to use this notebook for web browsing, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, music (iTunes, foobar, running SqueezeCenter), ripping/burning cd's and dvd's, and hopefully be able to watch HD videos without dropoffs. I also like being able to open several tabs in Firefox/IE at once without slowing down. In other words, everyday tasks just no gaming or video editing. I don't have much money so my budget is around $350. I know that makes my selection very limited, but I saw these refurbished notebooks from Circuit City/Tiger Direct that seem pretty nice for the money. And it would really help me to buy from them as shipping is free, no taxes or environmental fees for me in CA, and they offer 15% Bing Cash Back. So anyway, here are the choices: Acer Aspire Timeline AS5810T-8929 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Core 2 Solo ULV SU3500 1.40GHz, 4GB DDR3, 320GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6" LED, Vista Home Premium 64-bit This one is about $365.47 after BCB. I know the processor is ultra low voltage so it's not powerful, but it should be better than the Atom in netbooks. But I have no experience with either processor so I have no frame of reference. Will this one have trouble doing what I need it to do? I like that this one offers nearly 8 hours of battery life and is pretty thin. I also like that it stays cool. But if it's too slow to do what I need then I would pass. Also I would have to upgrade to Win7. Gateway NV5207U Refurbished Notebook PC - AMD Athlon 64 X2 QL-65 2.1GHz, 4GB DDR2, 320GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6" LED, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit This one is the same price as the Acer, but it has Win7 and a dual-core AMD processor. I understand the processor is a bit old and not the greatest performer though. And I've heard it gets pretty hot and the battery life is disappointing. But if this one can do what I need and the Acer cannot, then I would just deal with the setbacks. But if the Acer can perform the tasks I noted, then I would probably go for it. Any opinions? Feel free to make other suggestions, but in the same price range please. Thanks.

This is a Craigslist back and forth from DontEvenReply. Hilarious! Original ad: **** Disguisable weapons wanted **** Wanted: hidden blades, belt buckle knives, cane swords, etc..... Offering: cash, items for barter From Me to **********@***********.org: Hey, I saw your ad looking for concealable/disguised weapons. I have several fine-crafted items you may be interested in. Respond if you are interested and I will send you pictures and prices. Thanks, Mike From Jeff ****** to Me: I am. lets see what you got. From Me to Jeff ******: Jeff, Here you go: Looks like a normal spoon, right? Wrong. It is actually a deadly 2.5" half-smooth, half-serrated knife with tactical grip. One minute you are enjoying a bowl of cereal, and the next you are fighting off attackers with this deadly and disguised weapon. I am asking $50 for the blade. Let me know if you want to stop by and take a look at it. Mike From Jeff ****** to Me: that is stupid as hell and looks like crap. unless you have anything better to offer, dont waste my time. From Me to Jeff ******: Jeff, I am sorry you feel that way about the spoon blade. I do have some other weapons that I think you will feel differently about. Mike From Jeff ****** to Me: fine. but if it is another knife duct taped to a spoon then you can fuck off. From Me to Jeff ******: Jeff, Thank you for re-considering. Here are three quality disguised weapons that I think you will love: At first glance, this looks like a normal party cup. However, if you look close enough, you will see that it is really a fully automatic Glock 18C. You will be able to pour your enemies a nice warm cup of lead with this fine purchase. Asking $900 for the gun/cup combo. Still thirsty for justice? Try this badass M16A2 disguised as a 24-pack of soda. The box has two finely crafted holes on each side to allow for any kind of optics (not included) that you wish to attach. This weapon is only for sale if you have a Class III permit. This cleverly disguised weapon may look like a tissue box, but is actually a Benelli M3 12 gauge shotgun disguised as a tissue box. The ultra-soft quilted tissues serve as a comfortable grip on the pump-action shotgun. Also, if you find yourself sneezing during the heat of combat, you will have a handy tissue box ready for action. Asking $1500 for the weapon. Additional tissue boxes are an extra $5 per box. Let me know if you want any of these items. Thanks, Mike From Jeff ****** to Me: youre a fucking dumbass, shitbrained, asswipe, retarded dipshit. you prob walk around with that shit too you dumb mother fucker. I hope you get hit by a car. fuck off, eat shit, and die.
  18. I'm glad that at the very least he got to have a sendoff show and he got to see the kind of dedicated fanbase that he has developed over the years, even if that wasn't reflected in the ratings. BTW, does anyone have or know anyone that has a Nielsen box installed in their TV? If you haven't seen or read the commencement speech he gave at Harvard in 2000, you can watch it here: Conan O'Brien Harvard Class Day Speech 2000 - GUBA Video Awesome. The ending of that speech is particularly fitting in his current situation.
  19. Some updates from today by Nikki Finke: 1:45 PM: I've learned about a meeting that began at 1:45 PM at NBC Universal about The Conan War: On one side of the room -- NBCU bigwigs Jeff Gaspin and Marc Graboff. On the other -- O'Brien's reps: manager Gavin Palone, WME agent and board member Rick Rosen, and the newest member of Team O'Brien, Hollywood litigator Patty Glaser, who was hired on Sunday and is WME's legal shark of choice. I wouldn't want to be Gaspin or Graboff right now: Gavin can be as mean as a rabid dog, Rick's agency reps 60% of the TV talent, and Glaser is a pitbull. This is bloodsport. I've learned both NBCU chief Jeff Zucker as well as Gaspin were told that, before it went out, Conan was publicly making that statement (see below). My insiders say O'Brien's reps didn't want him to do it. "They were not thrilled. They told him it would undercut his negotiating leverage," one source revealed to me. "But Conan wouldn't listen to them. He wanted to make it." When Conan read the statement to the staff, "he broke up. He began to cry," one of my insiders reveals. "Because for 17 years he was working towards The Tonight Show, and now he says he's prepared to walk away from it. That's an amazing thing. An amazing thing. But he takes very seriously the fact that The Tonight Show baton was passed to him." Meanwhile, Hollywood creatives are already starting to show support for Conan against NBC. At the Television Critics Association confab, near the end of the session with ABC TV showrunners, TV showrunners Steve Levitan (Modern Family) and Bill Lawrence (Cougar Town) said almost in unison: "Hey, did you guys read Conan's letter?" Lawrence added: "I love it. Man, it was just ballsy. It's just the way I hoped it would be." Here's Patton Oswalt's take on the situation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oswv5ReaN3I Patton was influenced by Leno's early stand-up.
