I might have to make more than just pads this time... but I'll try the strange-looking headset first. Maybe it's full of surprises )

Maybe I went for this can one version too early... a custom frame would have been nice. But it was good timing for me to buy the LCD-1 for myself as a birthday present. I just hope it's not tensioned too much to make it impossible to squeeze bass out of it.

Now on: B.o.B - Who the fuck is Bob. Great mixtape.

I'm immensly enjoying the '76 Oxygene by Jarre through one of my newly lightly damped orthodynamic cans. Warm lush sound. Best way I've heard this record so far.

Thank's! The first step is the template. It's the same diameter as the baffle, but the oval hole is smaller. (This was the design of the stock pads. I assume the design was ok.). I also made one template with 5mm extra on each side, to give me some room for mistakes. (That's the top side of the pads. The small one goes on the bottom.) It's a bit dirty because it's been sprayed with spray mount, to make it into a post-it-template. I used it also for the foam. The glue made sure it didn't move around. Next step is sewing the inner seam. That's easy, I just turned the pads inside out and made the seam. (This is also the design of the original pads, and other pads that I've seen.) Then, it's time to reverse the pads. I've first sprayed the larger pad side as well as both sides of the foam with spray mount. This makes it easier to work with, since things stay reasonably put. As you can see the pads aren't too wrinkled now when I can start with the outer seam. Wrinkles must be avoided since they become extremely uncomfortable rock hard bumps. (Probably I'll not be able to finish this tonight, but it's a start.)

Tonight, I'll be making some new ear pads for my new vintage electrets. The electret arrived with ruined pleather pads. No pleather left, only uncomfortable fabric. As a downside, the fabric ruins all the deep bass. My first attempt to restore the pads wasn't a success. They ended up a bit too small for the baffle. I'll be making them (or try to make them) with a bit bigger diameter, to reach further out on the baffle. They are to fit onto here: And the old pads measure like this:

I'm making a new set of earpads for my headcans today. Planning a boat trip as well. Got to get some sun on me.

I bought one of these portable espresso machines to enjoy a fine cup of coffee on a rock in the archipelago. It makes a fine (but small) espresso with good crema.

First, I play Apoptygma Berzerk - Kathy's Song. Just to hear if they play the disco. Then, The Bug & Ricky Ranking - Judgment. To hear if there is bass, and if so, where it ends. Then, to be more sure, I also pick George Benson - C-smooth, and then also Radiohead - House of Cards. After the bass experience, there is time for the guitar. Then I pick Daft Punk - Robot Rock. Voices, then. The Hidden Cameras - Death of a Tune. Overall balance: Ludwig van Beethoven by Osmo V

I'm going through some random records to hear if they are suddenly amazing / something special. That's the best part of grabbing a new pair of headcans.

Tricky.... These three are in the top spot: And the HD580. Then there is this great german headcan: For portable, this goes on top: If I actually have to use it while being portable: This one is the most annoying to mod: Followed by the Eagle: This one is pretty good for being cheap and closed and isolating: This one should be really good but the cable is curly and short: Then there are the Philips HP910 and HP890. Both fine dynamic cans.

The Grundig is pretty much amazing actually

I've got minimal driver damping on my Grundig 224. But then I've got heavy damping on the grilles.
