  1. Thanks..... thanks again......the key is to muck with the WB. I was shooting with auto when I noticed the guy (who later turn out to be photographer for AP) next to me have such a nice result on his display so I asked him and he told me the trick. Now I have 7 freaking lenses and looking to get rid some (I know its never enough)......can you guys enlighten me?: 1. 24-105 : thinking this as walkaround lenses but in reality, didnt use it as much. 2. 100-400: just nice to have this beast and the feeling of having it handy when I need it. 3. 11-16 : so far my best work comes from this lens. affordable ,stellar image quality. this is a keeper 4. 85mm 1.8: thinking of getting rid of this one as I dont shot too much portrait and I have the 24-105 already. But I keep this because even if I sell it, I wont get much out of it. And the bokeh is just first class (only beaten by some high end lens) 5. 100mm 2.8 macro : just bought this as I venture into the world of macro. 6. 50mm 1.4 : thinking of using this as low light lens as my lens arsenal only no 4 and 5 are capable of low light but still not low enough. Also if I sell it, wont get much back 7. 28-55 kit lens : never use this anymore. thinking of selling it but friend of mine said if I sell it, I will have difficulties of selling my body later. Besides, I would mostly get like $100 max for it. So folks, which one to go ? My shooting style mostly on landscape. I love all my lenses but I just feel that I have too many lenses at the moment.....
  2. been in this hobby for 6 months. this is sure a complicated yet quite exciting hobby...... here are some of my work so far (any critics/comments are welcome): City Center Entrance Las Vegas - HDR by ruetamA Images, on Flickr Bellagio - Las Vegas by ruetamA Images, on Flickr Butterfly @T3 - Changi by ruetamA Images, on Flickr McCarran International Las Vegas by ruetamA Images, on Flickr McCarran International Las Vegas by ruetamA Images, on Flickr Star Trail @ Red Rock, Las Vegas - Nevada by ruetamA Images, on Flickr Lady In The Wind - Upper Antelope Canyon by ruetamA Images, on Flickr
  3. Can someone shed a light to me on how to achieve a sky like his photo? Is it PP or through use of certain filters? Thanks
  4. Wait a minute......i have no problem focusing with any aperture on my existing lenses. Is this focusing limit have to do with the physical max aperture ? or the focal length ? for example: 24-105 have no problem focusing @f11 where the physical max aperture is f4. So in the case of sigma, is it because of the physical max aperture that's 6.3? Anyone care to elaborate ? I'm using T2i btw. Thanks
  5. then my choice become clear......going w/ canon. thanks fr enlighten me with this fact......
  6. seriously it wont a/f beyond 280mm except on 1 series/ff? where did you heard/read this?
  7. yeah, edited my post above, the 100-400 do have IS.......actually my biggest worry would be whether 100mm less makes lots of difference in real world? i dont feel comfortable using an zoom extension due to manual focusing
  8. Folks, been reading a lot at photography forum. Planning to get a ultra tele. Not in the short term but in the next 2-3 months. I know you guys are quite critical and dependable on the advise. Thinking hard between Canon 100-400 or Sigma 150-500. Strength / weakness of both lenses from what I read: Canon : weakness: almost 30-35% more expensive, shorter focal length, never like the white color of tele for L series (more like personal opinion). Strength : Better IQ, 77mm filter - compatible with my existing glass (24-105 and tokina 11-16) so only need UV, lighter, smaller, f4 Sigma : weakness : lots of report said that its soft wide open at 500mm, heavier, IQ still behind canon, f5, 86mm filter. Strength: longer focal length, cheaper, black color hence less obvious vs canon With the above facts, which one you guys would choose ? Main application is wildlife and sports. Or better still have any of you guys tried any or both lenses ? Thanks in advance
  9. questions folks......maybe a very basic one. whats the ideal shutter speed for indoor shots to prevent blurry images. this applies for weddings/birthday party for kids. assuming flash is used as well.....thanks
  10. love this tokina.....its my walk around lens. great quality and price performance ratio. simply unbeatable. only been photographing around 4 months or so.....and i believe this lens delivered my best work so far.....have a look and pls judge for yourself
  11. nope Nate, settled with EOS550D......Rebel T2i I believe in US. If what u think telephoto is important for wildlife, then i don't think i wanted to shoot wildlife this trip.....
  12. i have tokina 11-16, a tripod, but no telephoto......only 85mm. just hope the crop factor of 1.6 helps.
  13. folks, plan on going to Zion National Park next week for photo hunting. Any tips for a good spot or other useful tips? Thanks. Just out of curiosity too, I've heard comments that Zion is better than Yosemite ?
  14. that would mean that i still got a creamy background (forget about dof terminology) even at higher number of aperture or smaller aperture.......doh
  15. ok, it has wide dof even at higher apertures. sorry, still getting used to all the terminology......way complicated than headphones sans technical aspects
  16. after so much confusion, finally settled with fixed 85mm f1.8. Gotta say its a winner lens for the price. now every friggin picture have these creamy thin DOF. even at higher aperture. love it. worth every penny. setting my eyes now on tokina 11-16mm f2.8 for landscape. anyone here using it ?
  17. Here's another thought......how about 10-22 f3.4-4.5 or 17-40 f4l? To complement existing lenses?
  18. thanks for the input. after pretty extensive research, i think i will settle with 70-200 f4L and ef 28mm f2.8. and will get rid of 18-55mm while retaining the 50mm f1.8. will this lenses combination effective for ALMOST all round combination of shooting condition whilst traveling and maintaining the weight at minimum ?
  19. just another hobby. nothing more. same like headphone. but i wanted to be able to produce something different then just another photograph. takes a bit of talent to produce it **sorry, always mixed u up with nate
  20. guys, just picked up this hobby less than a month. rig is 550d + 50mm f1.8 and 18-55mm (kit lenses). Here are some results of mine. Good friend of mine suggests me to give up this hobby, he said i'm not talented. throwing this question to you guys, am i really suck ? also looking for a reasonable wide lenses, preferably non L......any suggestions ?
  21. thanks again birgir......will try and report back the result
  22. thanks spritzer. i live in quite a humid place, would doing like what you advised above work as well ?
  23. thanks, thing is i bought this from US user and US distributor Yamasinc is already known for their un-responsiveness of treating RMA. I dont want to end up sending the o2 for them and they sit on it for 6 months before taking any action. i would like to hear from some more experienced stats user here.......
  24. Fark...... My O2 developed channel imbalance. Left louder than right. In my kgss roughly about 3 clicks more on the right to make it balanced. I live in asia, bought it from head-fi users around 1year ago. FWIR ,Yamasinc service is out of question although I can courier to them. Any suggestions ? Maybe a DIY troubleshoot ? Or Im screwed ?
