I agree that a videocon is now mandatory.
  2. Home today from work as this migraine recedes. I've been watching streaming Netflix through the Shure 840s unamped. A very satisfying movie/sound experience. I love this thing.

Ah man, reksy, I was really looking forward to meeting you in person. Another time. You'll be missed.
  4. Yeah, they're gonna be ok. Nice speakers.
  5. Hard to argue with that.
  6. I cannot hear hiss when listening to music. It does bother me a bit more than slightly win nothing is playing.
  7. Cool, thanks. I did shoot a PM to Nate (as I always do when something gets squirrelly in my rig ). And Shelly has also been a big help in quantifying what might be an "Acceptable" amount of hiss. I think I may just have to accept the fact that these things have pretty big amps jammed up their rears, so some low-level hiss may be part of life. As these will be going in the nascent office rig (iPad-->Pico amp/DAC-->Quads), I can live with this amount of hiss provided that it's within "normal" limits--whatever the hell that means.
  8. Are these supposed to be dead quiet, or is hiss to be expected? This is a bit disappointing and I'm wondering if I got Shelly's pair.
  9. Ok ruled out SkipJack. And the buzz/hum is much less when no source attached. Ground loop? They sound pretty good.
  10. Snap decisions are the right decisions.
  11. That strap looks uncomfortable.
  12. Hooked up. I've got some very low level buzz in both and the right channel seems a little lower than the left. 1) how much buzz is normal, if any? These are placed on either side of the iMac and there're electronics everywhere of course. 2) the channel imbalance is probably fine as I can volume match, but does this sound indicative of a larger problem? Setup is iMac to PWD to SkipJack to Quads. I am aware that the skipjack could be an issue so I will get it out of the chain. After I do something else to distract me from this fucking headache.
  13. Colin, you have no need for these overrated, overpriced, bass-shy FOTYs.
  14. So I ordered the Tom Bihn Zephyr AND the Tom Bihn ID Messenger. I'll try each and send one back. Refrained from the Ristretto for the moment.
  15. Call, but my guess is that should be fine.
  16. Such a good movie. Such a good line.
  17. Anyone on the fence with funds available should just dew et; you'll be happy.
  18. Good call Mike. I'm probably right behind you on it. I like the extra room. I think I'll be spending a fair amount of $ with Tom Bihn today.
  19. Interesting. If it just kicks you up to the $30 plan, then there's no reason to sign up for it in the first instance it would seem.
  20. Mike (or anyone), does the plan automatically upgrade to the $30 unlimited if you exceed? My guess is no, but that's a guess.
  21. Just an fyi...After roughly 2 weeks of iPad 3G ownership, I have transferred almost 200GB in data over 3G under what I would consider light use conditions. It would seem difficult to me to sign up for 3G and not exceed the 250GB limit if one uses 3G daily, even just a little bit. EDIT: Oh for Christ's sake, I forgot the major caveat: I don't have wireless in my office, so it is on 3G most of the work day. But during that time, I am not actively surfing, just receiving mail and push notifications...and the occasional Words with Friends. So not heavy use, but certainly may affect my conclusion above. Fucking migraine.
  22. Thanks guys. I have some Prednisone for such times, which will usually stop the thing within a day, but that's a full day. Now it's just a matter of getting through the day. Called in for the pain meds. We'll see if doc takes pity on me. They're not exactly liberal with those things.
  23. Woke up with a migraine. Too late for the migraine meds. Not enough Advil in the world. No painkillers, and can't-miss meetings at work. Should be a fun day.
