  1. There are really GOOD monks (like andy), then there are a few bad ones. Like the child molesting creep that bought the property behind me that's next to a kindercare. Luckily (with a warning) enough neighbors got together to stop him from building a "visitor center" where he could spy on and prey on the kids. He now owns 4 such properties in the 30 mile area, all of which are next to kindercare, or kindercare like facilities, none of which he is able to build on. Seems like a waste of about $800k. Seriously, how hennyo was able to solder like that, I have yet to figure out. round balls of eutectic solder thru the wrong side of the board. On the heatsinks balls stuck to the pins but not the board. That definitely takes talent. here is the place in japan that has the transistors, trouble is they won't ship overseas, so someone in japan has to be the go between http://www.maroon.dti.ne.jp/satodenki/fet.html I could use 25 pieces each of 2sj79 and 2sk216 just to make sure plus 50 pieces 2sk170/2sj74

  3. What you need to do is measure before the relay when it cuts out. All 4 outputs. You may have one failing or one temperature sensitive Component causing all the trouble. Or temporarily defeat the relay circuit to make it easier to measure. A bad power supply cap can definitely do this
  4. you are loosing so much efficiency by lowering the bias by that much. find a way to double the bias voltage. way better than arcing the diaphragm and not even knowing it.
  5. here is the problem. everyone rates transformers in different ways, and since the power supplies in this unit are completely unregulated, and if the dc voltages go to high (more than +320/-350) parts start to blow up, there are issues. so take your best shot at what you think the under load voltages should be and hope for the best. second issue will be getting a transformer to fit in that size hole.
  6. I had to blind hole a 3/4 new gas pipe and pull a new 50 amp 220v feed for the oven Both were loads of fun.
  7. I replaced ge premiere cooktop and oven with a standalone wolf. Gas top and electric oven. Automatic relight for burners and completely Sealed burners. I love the thing. Given that I am a massively sloppy Cook ths thing s super easy to clean. Pictures can be provided

  9. It's super symmetry! One channel per board. Unbalanced or balanced in, balanced out.
  10. One of the dead is an 8 year old kid. Very sad.
  11. 2 dead so far, one unexploded bomb found. Very ugly non stop video on cnn
  12. this is getting very close now to the final input stage http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/ubaltobal2.pdf extra cascade stage allows power supplies at +/-20 volts distortion at about .008% fixed it.
  13. anyone see any errors http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/kgsshvamp12.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/kgsshvps8h.jpg
  14. quit messing with it and listen for a few hours.
  15. it is amazing how fast electrons travel the globe http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/kgsshvamp11mini.jpg board is 7.26 x 4.84 inch http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/kgsshvps8g-mini.jpg board is 7.3 x 7.35 inch updated power supply schematic http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/kgsshvps8g.pdf you can use ksa1156 in place of 2sa1486 if you put in the 270v zeners

  17. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/kgsshvamp11mini.jpg needs lots of checking
  18. gsx-mk2 will do 80 volts peak to peak balanced with a balanced input only dynahi will do 120 volts peak to peak balanced gsx is about 8 watts class A per balanced channel dynahi is about 30 watts class A per balanced channel dynahi drives speakers if you want it to. gsx-mk2 will NOT drive HE6 to ear bleeding levels dynahi WILL
  19. if you already have the old boards and a way to do the off board heatsinks, then you should do it, you should have very little trouble getting the parts there. Otherwise the new boards are going to be a fair amount easier to build.
  20. both are tied to ground at the bottom of the 6k resistor. thermal hard to see.
  21. made the holes .040 inch, they were .030 inch enough?
  22. The black area is where there is no groundplane. So if there is going to be an arc, it has to go thru the board to the other side. The thickness of the board is good for a few kilovolts. I'm sure its not necessary at 30v, but its trivial to do. I will increase the size of the cap holes on the amp board. As far as the voltage references, the linear tech part is a fair amount more expensive than the ti part. You use one or the other, not both.
  23. well I had nothing to do for an hour today http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/dynahipower6.jpg
  24. i will start on an on board power supply version this weekend.
  25. not unless you have some anti-tubes that work with protons. seriously why would you want to do something like this? because other people are stupidly adding tubes as the front end which add extra noise and require extra power supplies and tricky methods necessary to dc couple to the output of the tubes etc... If that is what you want, there are plenty of things out there already.
