  2. version 8 are the boards i am getting next week. no reason to update that. version 9 has a bit more heatsink on the outputs, otherwise identical. will do the dynahi soon
  3. latest posted kgdynalobal5,kgdynalobal7,ksa5pssmall,goldenreference have ground planes on both sides. the first 2 were updated today. kgsshvpssic also has ground planes on both sides. 2 of birgir's latest boards have the same thing. all the above now have teadrops making the holes more reliable. grass does not grow under the feet of the stax mafia as you get older you need a bigger monitor. so getting a uhd display that is 28 inches from my current 32 inches is clearly the wrong direction. same thing with horsepower
  4. really think that HIfi Nutter really needs to go and buy a liquid lightning and go over to changstar
  5. if helps to have a bigass monitor. (32 inch, 2.5k) but its no longer enough, i need a 4k monitor thats about 40 inches for my desk. 60hz and the video card that goes with it. any suggestions?
  6. yep i fixed it. one of the caps was not working because the ground was not hooked up. highly unlikely that anyone would know, but easy to fix. everyone with those boards should add the jumper. how I found it was I was working on adding more area to the heatsink on the surface mount board and saw that the pin was not connected. what I could do now is add some ground plane on the back of that board like I have done for the others. lower impedance ground means even less noise
  7. birgir bought 100 feet of fancy high voltage wire. he wanted to buy 300 feet, but that was way over the maximum size and weight limit for shipping.
  8. the reason why those power outlets are done that way is for europe and 220-240v where both lines may be hot WRT ground.
  9. found this one yesterday, the 4 cathode caps for the outputs... same deal with the power supply, they could possibly short to ground, so either lift the caps a bit, or remove, put some kapton on the board and put the caps back. although no one has had this problem yet. updated board file has this fixed.
  10. the original and the boards i'm getting from birgir soon have one land missing from the 4.7uf cap to the right of the input connector. Jumper the ground line to the electrolytic next to it. board files updated. after i verify the surface mount boards work, i will have 2 sets of extra boards if people want them, also one set of boards with the mpsw parts.
  11. as long as the heatsink is big enough, that should be fine, and put the power supply on the other heatsink. its still going to be a fairly big box
  12. i hope you don't have any cats.
  13. its a to246, so it would have to be a different heatsink, and a different footprint
  14. 2 amp boards on one side, the power supply and transformer on the other side
  15. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/kgsshvpssic.jpg good for at least 100ma on each rail with enough heatsink
  16. new power supply, 100ma version angle bracket sicfet pass transistor coming for the higher power applications.
  17. that's what Justin gets for using quality made in usa circuit boards. time to use the Chinese crap.
  18. updated ksa5 small board and golden reference changes from the original, on board heatsinks, darlington outputs and lt1021 as the reference, 10V which makes a difference too. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/goldenreference.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/boards/goldenreference.zip
  19. actually the golden reference regulator does perform slightly better than the krell supply with a couple of changes. (lt1021 and dn2540 replacing fet and lm336) krell supply is about 2 microvolts of noise at 500ma, the golden reference is 90 nanovolts of noise at 500ma. if people want, I can turn the krell supply into the golden reference, but still with the on board heatsinks. definitely will cost a fair bit more than the Chinese version.
  20. very nice wood chassis. are the white circuit boards the latest in trendy?
  21. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/boards/cfp3rs.zip someone really needs to check this hard to make sure when I changed the transistors everything still goes to the right place.
  22. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/boards/ksa5psgsmall.zip old board was 6.27 x 4.8 new board is 5.5 x 4.37 changed mpsw to pzta
  23. The alternate krell supply is bigger than it needs to be, because I made it the original size, will look into shrinking it a bunch.
  24. this power supply performs no better than the fully regulated alternate krell ksa5 power supply so it may be easier for people to do that.
  25. looks like all the parts are available to build that. 2sk170GR, GR only. A board to do that would be pretty trivial if we can't buy in the usa. Still going to cost more than a standard linear I think.
