  1. well, nothing is better than hearing something yourself... so i ordered a VDA-2 combo, should be here late next week. should be an interesting dac.
  2. Hey i have a chance to jump on a meridian 566.24 dac on a'gon, should i go for it? thanks
  3. Oh, the silver cables did affect everything, but what they most made a "negative" was the brass. i didn't notice for about 2 weeks until i played some jazz cds.
  4. i just did a test between the UR8 and the wavyern silver cables. the silver were better in just about every respect except that they greatly hurt the tone of trumpets and brass insturments to the point where it was just unacceptable. nevertheless, however clear and lean the UR8 can be described at, it was no where near as clear as these silver cables. overall, it doesn't mean i'm changing anything in a system, but cables to improve the performance of the various components within my system, and can help to clean out the little things i don't like in the sound. i guess the best example of this is the improvements made to the HD650 by various after market cables.
  5. I just offered a guy on a'gon to buy a Stello 220.. hopefully i'll end up with it.
  6. Nice! congrats on the new source.
  7. wow, he just replied that he is accepting money order and not paypal. this guy is completely false! i rejected his offer.
  8. Hello, i lost this auction, which went too high for a used piano. the seller has no beed back. i got a "second chance" to buy it. but i'm no longer sure of it's authenticity.. and it's in Canada. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&sspagename=STRK%3AMEDW%3AIT&viewitem=&item=280075774966&rd=1&rd=1
  9. Hi. the second round of Zana Deux amps should be out by now... anyone got any?
  10. you also try out the Chimera labs cables. they are somewhat organic sounding (ie, like vinyl).. they are thick, warm, dynamic, and very detailed (more so than the UR8).
  11. i know of at least two headphone rigs that start with EMM sources.... come one.. join the group of elite head-fiers
  12. go for it! go for it! go for it! ;)
  13. well, grover does have bad business practices.. but i can't argue with the sound and value of the UR8. also the chimera stuff is pretty good.
  14. well... looks like i didn't get that apogee, after all. > > in any case, a person who is building a diy dac from scratch asked me to recommend a dac in the 1K price range that has the best "voice." well i really couldn't think of any model 1K dac, they all have their good things and bad things about them. at the end i sorta ended up saying "modded dac 60 with detail and treble energy" would be a good 1K dac, and pointed to the lavry as another one. what dacs would you say have the best "voice"? and btw: what does to voice a dac mean.. isn't this a component that shouldn't have a voice?
  15. hey, something cool just happened. the buyer of the apogee backed out, so the seller offered to sell it to me. so unless something shady happens, i'll have a lavry v apogee v. benchmark comparison soon.
  16. guys i'm listening to this thing... the Dac-1 may be better than people often give it credit for. yes, it's edgy, it is bright, it has a lean bass.. but, it is getting all the details and cues right, better than i've heard them before, and it's sure got a nice soundstage... maybe more open than that of the lavry's.
  17. Hey, i traded the Lavry for the Benchmark with david Z (Dada on the forum). as i suspected, it's far brighter and the details sting a bit more. the decay is faster, giving it the impression that it's faster. I also have some wayvern silver ICs to try out.. but with this dac, i'd rather not...
  18. yea... now i've realized that 56 volume isn't actually good for the lavry, it starts to distort up there. i went down to 44 and am living happily there.
  19. http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlconv&1175025463 someone buy this up now!
  20. I decided to try to find out how good the XLR to HD650 was... bad idea. i put in Mahler's 8th and it sounded like shit. at that point i put in the adaptors and went to the ZD, which sounds much better. (yes, i went and got the hosa one's from The Starving Musician on Shattuck ave).
  21. I'm gonna go down the street to rat shack and take whatever they got. and, after spending all that time and $ on finding the UR8, i'm not ready to throw them out yet in favor of some XLR-RCA cables.
  22. um.. i was under the impression that copper and nickle were the only metals that didn't seriously alter the signal.
  23. gah... so here i've ran into issues. since i don't have XLR to RCA connectors, i can only listen to the lavry-ZD thing whenver mike (humanflyz) is around. i put some on order, but apparenly they are not comming for another two months.. and somehow they got sold out everywhere else as well (the neutrik version). so i went to look for some other cheap alternatives and it turns out they are all made out of nickel and not copper. since the thought of all the nickel in my signal makes me cringe, i started to look for some copper. of the copper, cardas and BAT make some very expensive ones. at this point i decided i might as well try to trade my lavry in for a stello...
  24. you guys gotta tell me about the meridians... i know nothing about them and usually assume they are old and no longer good.. that's why i pass them up.
