They fit perfectly in all Stax sockets so no need to worry.

The sinks are not grounded so you can just use the shoulder bits for the screw and plenty of goop.
-
That's what I've been using for years now. Runs a bit cooler.
-
The went holes will help but it is also a good idea to lift the sinks off the board a bit.

I just measured mine through the top panel and got 62-70°C. This is after about 30 minutes in chassis which is not the best in terms of cooling. Large drifts in offset and balance could be tied to how the output devices are attached to the heatsinks. What interface did you use?
-
That one quite bad as well so I prefer the WPI plug. That shipping is messed up as it would easily fit in one of the flatrate boxes.

This man speaks the truth!!!! It looks awesome....
-
Well that and adjusting the amp boards for the output stage to draw more current.
-
So? I respect Tyll's review but to me this is not a headphone worth the engineering and high pricetag.
-
Try the UK service center too. They might be cheaper.

The PSU already uses very good diodes so no need to worry about that. Better resistors might give some improvement but the real upgrade would be more current, much more current to the output stage. The circuit is very linear so it kept it's characteristics as the current was lowered to work with those onboard sinks but it doesn't mean it wasn't a compromise. Huge sinks, large PSU and this amp can mean business.

I've seen the gigantic call for help and anybody to take him seriously. Everybody knows though that David Mahler is a brain dead fucktard and moar monies does not equal bettah soundz. Seriously, the guy makes Sixmoons seem level headed and accurate. For me the SR-009 only appears to be neutral as the upper mid/lower treble issues are clearly a coloration. That plus the bass issues means it's not the chameleon the Mk1 is (and to a certain extent the SR-Omega) which changes to meet what ever it is fed. It has a sound which is super smooth and a bit on the dark side but that doesn't mean it can't rock out or be painfully bright. In the end the 009 always sounds like a 009, feed them something dark and the brightness doesn't disappear nor does the shelved bass.

Funny enough,I prefer the HD800 to the LCD2 and you know my stance on the 009...
-
Sounds the same SE or balanced. Any difference will mostly be down to the source and how the output stage is configured/designed.

Lower plate resistors are a bad idea for electrostatics. 50-70K is the golden range.

I'd love to fax some over but I'm sure they are all sold now since we closed 15 minutes ago. It's since September but naturally it's far newer as it keeps leaching germs from the environment.

This is still work in progress and I have yet to optimize the circuit for the 6SN7 (supposed to use 12AU7's) so the values reflect that. I will never be able to run the tubes to the max give the constraints of the transformer I'm using. Running the tubes at 6mA is tempting (what I did with the B-10, max rating for the tubes) but the transformer can't sustain that so I'll probably run at 3-4mA to keep it nice and cool. I'm also not sure about the cathode bypass on the second stage as it's probably more trouble than it is worth. The amp is currently hovering around 50dB worth of gain which is enough for me with 7.2VRMS available from the source. It will be north of 1000V P-P but the distortion will be significant.

I went to work on a cold Sunday morning but I did remember to take a picture of my sourdough breads for Jacob: It is a 54 hour process to make these from preparing the starter, to making the dough, letting it slowly rise, forming them and letting them rise some more until they finally see the stone oven. These are a bit on the wild side as I'm still taming the mother dough after my main cooler died last week and everything got a bit too warm. I've been making these since September and it's been a lot of fun to get back to the basics. Knowing what you can do and what you really shouldn't do to make a stable product. It's a bit amazing what one can do with Flour, water, rye and some salt...

Stax SR-40 FTW!!!!
-
Any of those should work. No BOM as we never do one and we just need schematics for P-P amps. Speaking of something different, here is something I've been working on as an attempt to burn off some of my surplus parts: It's a reworking of the Stax "A" circuit with a diff input. Really needs feedback but not enough gain...

I have dozens of PS3 rips (not done be me) and even though they are the wrong sample rate they sound very nice indeed.
-
The large heatsinks are causing the amp to drift so much. If it drifts once it's up to temp then you have a problem. I would not recommend trying to use the chassis for grounding or rather as a conductor. Much better to just star ground everything in the PSU with wires.
-
Because we can?

Get a MSB, they really love to upsample.

It is a filtered IEC so it can buzz but the transformer is a more likely cause. Mine has been running on a 2AT fuse for close to a year now with zero issues. Nothing wrong with using the amp on a 3.15AT on 117VAC then.
