That's not as cool as the new Phillips mini system with a tube preamp and ribbon tweeters. Phillips FTW!!
  2. That is true enough so just get a Blue Hawaii. Easy to bias (unless you just had to get the Black Gates like I did...) and beats the pants of every other amp.
  3. How about the K&K Audio kit. Plenty of Lundahl goodness in that one...
  4. It is basically the same amp so yes. The only real change are the DC heaters.
  5. You need to rebias it if you change the tubes. It's a bit of a pain to do for the first time but the instructions are somewhere on head-fi.
  6. Sounds like a plan. I know that the current SR-Lambda price is all my fault... The stand and cover are about 40$ used, the phones can be had for 1k$ in Japan, the amp for less and the 5m extension costs 90$ new. Considering it isn't a gray import the price is quite good.
  7. It's hard to beat the FOTM even if I'm partially to blame as I have quite a few posts there.
  8. I just told him about us.
  9. I'm working on it!! I'm going to order some custom made transformers soon and find somebody to laser cut 4mm copper sheets. The tubes are in the mail so I am working on it... The T2 is a bunch of good ideas thrown in with some bad ones. I do think it will be on par with a stock Blue Hawaii with basic parts but after that it should be surpassed. I'm going to buy one when I find it but it's not a matter of life and death or anything like that.
  10. Ahh so that's why Ray paints all the chips! His designs are so advanced that they can't fall into enemy hands....
  11. There is one design available but it doesn't use them for the output stage. There you can use either a 6SN7 or some transistor. I was in some data sheet for an opamp but I forget which.
  12. Precisely. I bet it will be some opamp based joke or he might even build something like the Egmont.
  13. Hehe... on a related note Ray sent me an email about my HE90...
  14. You worry too much. The transformers are great so it should be a good step up from both the SRD's and the Illusion.
  15. The Lundahl transformers should be quite good but there are other options such as the what this guy sells. Just get some 16AWG solid core silver wire and connect them up. Leech the bias from some other amp and you are all set.
  16. Happy birthday from a fellow Viking. Strange, I have this sudden urge to go and get an axe...
  17. It's my experience that the tiny transformers in the SRD-7's can't deliver enough grunt for the SR-007, no matter the amp. I really think you should be the guinea pig for that Lundahl unit...
  18. Nah... my head is more complete. I was the source for a lot of that stuff after all...
  19. Practice makes perfect...
  20. You would notice the recess and nonlinear LF and HF response instantly so it must have been a SR-Lambda.
  21. I have done something similar myself to a few adapters. You shouldn't be able to damage anything but it's always wise to pop the hood on modified gear. The wires from the speaker input can lead to 3 places, to the switch at the front (how it was done stock), directly to the pcb or the purist way of directly to the transformers. The recessed midrange is the Lambda Pro. The SR-Lambda is nothing like them and much better IMO. If you really want to rock out with the SR-Lambda then I'd try them without the mineral wool in place inside the cups.
  22. Very, very different no matter how you tune your SR-007. The 4070 bass has tremendous extensions but very little bloom and can never hit as hard as the 007. There is also a bit of overhang with the 4070, similar to the SR-Omega but different though this isn't really noticeable unless you push them hard.
