Mike Mercer review Cavalli Liquid gold
spritzer replied to complin's topic in Headphone Amplification
You can get great stuff made in China, no doubt about that. That being said, having reworked some Cavalli PCB's they are the cheapest crap Imagineering offer. Assembly is clearly done in China and probably testing as well (notice the test header on the PCB) but that is all automated. The parts chosen and the design matter a whole lot more. -

A two channel super symmetry dynalo would fit in that chassis with SMD parts. -
But you just install a switch which grounds the - input for SE. Hell, just make two XLR plugs with pins 1 and 3 tied internally.

Yeah but the LC was intended as a gateway drug so if you buy another amp then you get a discount, hence the numbers are much lower. Also how many have or will be returned for servicing due to the crap design? All of this adds massively to the cost. -
Why are you using the phase splitter? This isn't a Cavalli amp, there is no need for it.

If you have minimal running costs then 700K at a decent markup (kinda on the excessive side for the LC...) but we know that this is really the third Cavalli Audio as he's run it into the ground two times. He always needs new investment to stay afloat so the running costs clearly aren't low. Also how many of those units resulted in massive discounts on other items and thus last revenue? -
I think it is tied to the servo but I can't be sure. Too lazy to look for the schematics...
-
It think this is a quirk of the CCS or something like that as my Carbon's don't do this. Stax still use it to this day in the 727. It's long been out of production though.

Including our ears!!!

Don't get me started on that drivel but we are indeed ready and waiting!!! We have a fabulous viking ship...
-
Of course it does, we don't need no stinkin' mosfets!!
-
We are vikings so anybody falling down without an actual reason for doing so would be laughed out of town.
-
They did good but it shows how important it is to have the right mindset for this.
-
Happy Birthday buddy!!
-
I think you did more analysis there than Cavalli has ever done for any of his products. Designing with just a multimeter for the win!!
-
4M7 output resistors....yeah that will cause issues...

Cheap and "balanced" will generate a lot of interest. We also have the same situation with Cavalli as RSA back in the day, only positive gushing from idiotic noobs so people think it is the bee's knee's. Anything negative is removed per the Head-fi protocol. Kevin did spend some time with it today and this is what he sent me:

IIRC Single Power had 7 year warranty and look where that got people... Just because Cavalli is stupid enough to claim a lifetime warranty of these things doesn't mean anything. He will be replacing all those parts time and time again until they claim it is due to abuse and not covered by the warranty. Story as old as time...

It would also be a good way of adding some much needed angle to the 009 pads.

The Lambda Nova is excellent, nothing short of it. A guy came from Denmark 10 days ago to pickup an amp in person and we naturally made whole listening session out of it. He compared pretty much all of the Lambdas and the LNS was a stand out success. Funny though, he wanted to try the SR-404 (as he has one as well) and my reply...which one? I have three.... SR-404, SR-SC1 and SR-404LE...
-
Wow...just wow. Gotta hand it to Cavalli for being devious little shits.
-
Those will burn up in no time. The LC isn't even linear up to 20kHz so I bet it has a very oddly shaped sound.
-
That's a lot of units and I bet a lot of angry customers. The original owner of this one was certainly glad to be rid of it. One can never forget that about Head-fi, if you are a sponsor then you can have any and all negative posts about removed.

This really should be called Liquid Shit as two Schiit Modi amps are much better than this. Far cheaper too...
