TTVJ is having a vinyl sale. 25% will automatically be taken off of record orders, and an additional 5% off with code "5% more off".
  2. Great read Tyll. I agree wholeheartedly with regards to the BHSE. It would be interesting to throw the Electra in the mix as well whenever it actually comes out.

Yes, definitely possible that's what happened. I looked up his name/address afterwards and he was involved in some foreclosure lawsuits recently on his house and boat. Not someone I'd want to send a money order to with no guarantee of receiving a product. Edit - taking this too far off topic, so here's some deals: Discountmags has a holiday magazine sale. Picked up wired and Discover for $5 each. Not really a deal, but if you're a Time Warner user, reset your cable modem for a 50% speed increase.

Because I dealt with him. Not only did he back out after he (thought) I had sent him a money order (two pairs of HE-60 at once! I had just bought Spritzer's pair a few days before) he also sent me a scathing racist email. When I tried calling him to clear things up, I heard nothing but obscenities for a few minutes before giving up. I guess what they say is the case - if its too good to be true, it's probably not true. I just thank heavens I was able to reroute the money order from my USPS pickup point. Edit - I should thank you for the heads up. It would have been a great deal had the guy been stable. He seemed so nice and then once he "had the money" he kind of... flipped.

Hold on to yours and never let it go. (Unless you already have) Some claim that build quality and QC have gone down since Audiovox bought Klipsch out. It would make sense given that yours is several years old and not experiencing what seems to be a very common issue for users (though Amazon always make issues seem more prevalent than they are as the one person with a problem takes the time to complain while the hundred satisfied customers don't waste their time writing Amazon reviews.)

They have a serious cable flaw. If you buy off Amazon they'll replace it when it inevitably goes kaput, but its quite a hassle. Replaced mine 3 times in the last 6 months and I coddle them. Looking at Amazon's reviews it seems a lot of other users have had the same problem. For kids or teens who wrap up their headphones and shove them in a backpack or locker the X10's would be lucky to last a month. Great sound for that price point though.

  12. Dave is often my first suggestion for people looking to get into Jazz or experiment with timing. He was productive until the very end of his life, releasing live albums last year at the age of 90. He will be missed. http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/chi-dave-brubeck-dead-20121205,0,7126256.column

Edit- I'm not sure I have the rights to post LFF's pictures.
  14. He keeps insisting it will feed 3-6 people, but you just know he's going to take it home with him and eat it alone in his boxers and wifebeater while he watches late night andy griffith reruns. Which actually sounds like a pretty awesome night.
  15. Obviously a parody. No football player these days is named Dan Smith.
  16. Professionals are usually overly cautious, but in either case I'd much rather get another set of impressions and not worry about fit than not get it, have fit issues, have to send back and forth for refit (a rigamarole I had to go through 2 years ago and was singularly frustrating.) Edit - Went to my audiologist today to get new molds for the freqphases (this will be my fourth set). Out of curiosity we compared them to the molds for my last set done three months ago (UERMs). They had contracted. In his estimation, enough to affect the seal.
  17. According to my next door neighbor who is also my audiologist, your ear canals change over time, especially with weight gain or loss as insignificant as 10 pounds. The molds themselves also don't hold up well over time, I got my molds done once and didn't get to send them in for three weeks - he said it was worth re-taking to be sure they hadn't changed in that time (and he doesn't charge me anything so it's not like he has a vested interest in me needing new molds.)
  18. Also still quite common, and relatively cheap.
  19. 12AX7's aren't going anywhere. Bias on the Aristeus should be pro and HE90, so that would be 580 and 500. The 950's run at 600v I believe, though some claim they "open up" at 620-630. Running them at Pro bias is fine, though you'll need an adapter. a whole thread on them for your perusal.
  20. First time the 3A has been eligible for discount. Says something about how many units they're selling.

$5 off any Amazon order of $25 or more over Thanksgiving weekend, 19th through the 21st.
  22. Point taken, I did borrow the assumption from someone elses' digging around on him on the other thread. I would amend the statement to "which he wasn't willing to sell to make ends meet instead of stealing other people's money." Because, you know, that's what an honest upstanding businessman would do. Every other point made was fact. Dragging a mud wrestler through the mud doesn't dirty him up more than he already is. I understand that Alex has garnered a lot of good will over the years. Lest someone has been out of the game for a while and looking to get a recable, this is important for them to know. If I seem a tad emotional about this, it is because (besides for all the enthusiasts out money) for every one of these cottage guys who screw people out of their money, it makes it that much harder for people to trust the other cottage industry vendors. It's damaging to the entire hobby.
