I grew up in the antique business. My father did not normally deal in optics, but for something that rare the value is usually listed as "NRS" meaning "no recent sales" which really means "we won't know until it goes up for auction."

A guy who is the grandson of a famous Zeiss designer showed up on reddit's /r/photography last week. On Friday he put in an appearance on MFLenses forum. He inherited a number of lenses from his grandfather which are stupidly rare. One of which (the Distagon 25mm F/1.4) was known only to exist in plans. That is, there were no copies, even prototypes believes to exist. Porn: A few more here.

Sssort-of. The Campus Center is open later hours now, but things are in considerable disruption right now. Long story short. Amherst College has had just a wee bit of a PR problem due to some nasty incidents of rape and the resulting coverup. The ramifications of this kerfuffle had been enormous, and one of them has been WAMH losing its office space so that a woman's center can be built. I haven't been in the CC since this process began in late December but it is my understanding that things are pretty torn up at the moment. My main concern is that the workers doing the renovations don't know anything about radio equipment or the wiring of the station. I can only imagine what the studio will look like when I see it next.

I've been back on slsk recently. Now nearly 11 years on, it's not as active as it was in the heyday of 2003-2006. Still, it's a place to find things that are impossible to locate anywhere else. I found Redshift - Downtime in FLAC via a guy from Argentina. Seriously look at the sale prices of a used copy of that album. Anyway, the point is that last night I met a guy who makes atmospheric DNB in the style of mid-90s LTJ Bukem. The photo above is of his studio. It's kind of weird and torn because he took it from a 3D panorama or something. It's a small world, that blue sequencing looking thing on the left is a Yamaha RM1x. I bought one of those new in 1998. I still have it, but it's little more than a dust collector these days. :/ I listened to a couple of his tracks, they're pretty good: Rapid Transport is a collaboration with the mirthfully-titled "James Rejoyce."
