Geneapalozza: A Celebration Of All Things Gene
NightWoundsTime replied to agile_one's topic in Meets
We have... very angry weather. Oh wait you've got earthquakes. Ooh I know what wins. We've got *snowbirds*. AND: One of your California dinosaurs is named Dinny. -

No, but if you keep your eyes open you might see dinosaurs. Have you seen dinosaurs on the PCH? Didn't think so. -

A real rental company's Ford Boring wouldn't have custom installations done by a stoned 10 year old. -

I was going to point out that Ric, to my knowedge, hasn't made a serious travel team appearance yet. Then I remembered he did both legs of Vanjam. One way I'd only count as like 1/4 credit but the trip back makes a full point. -
You're welcome anytime. I'd say first pint's on me but that doesn't work. First slice of Momo's pizza?

That's what she said. Me, chocolate covered peanut butter cookie things. Not bad for an off brand one dollar half rack of cookies. Oh and the grouper sounds excellent Vicki. Something like this?

Ok so a while back I posted about Built to Spill coming and then I forgot about it. WTF. Not missing Joanna Newsom, just bought my ticket online. Then I realized that Iron & Wine is coming the same week to the same venue. Tallahassee does not suck.

Yep, it's cold in my house and it felt like time for some Christmas music while doing a thorough Monday morning cleaning. Soon enough I won't want to hear any Christmas music ever again, so might as well hear the stuff I enjoy before I reach that limit.

Gotta watch the video! Sounds like someone's rehearsing a really low-rent production of Stomp in the back. -

Postjack International saved my life and gave me a kitten. -
Streethawk: A Seduction, on vinyl. Pitchfork's reissue review sums this one up nicely:

Forgot about that place completely. It had been on my list for a while but I never managed to check it out. Reviews were good from what I remember. At this point my favorite burger in town still resides at Ella's (Americana Folk Art Cafe). -

Recommended options also in the area: La Teresita. 1.3 miles, but walking is a bit sketchy for the last few blocks. Open 24 hrs, with large cheap servings of basic Cuban foods. Cup of garbanzo soup and a cuban sandwich will treat you right. Lee Roy Selmons. Same parking lot as the hotel. Reasonably cheap BBQ and soul food from a soulsucking chain. There are about 10 upscale steak and seafood chains in a mile radius. My recommendation if you're staying close is Capital Grille. If you travel a few miles you can go to Bern's Steakhouse, but bring your Black cards. -

I'll go steal Wayne's car and take it down to Le Tub's parking lot so he'll be compelled to go get us burgers. -

To correct that understatement, walkable sounds like it's a trek. What Cigar City is to this hotel, is more like stumble-able. So, bravo indeed. -

Awesome Gene. I had thought of that hotel but didn't know much about it. Nearly the only hotel on that block that I haven't been around, but that's because they don't have a bar. It's a very new property so not sketchy like the Hilton next door. And of course, walkable to Cigar City. Todd, I'll be back in Tallahassee working on Monday. I wouldn't expect a huge Monday crowd. -
Yep. I think he had a good director or editor for those though. If you remember Oz and James it featured at least one fadeout from an argument per episode, sometimes many more. This time it seems he's been given some space and it's not cool.
-
James May's Man Lab Truly shameful. It's James May rattling on for an hour about useless nonsense with no other presenters to stop him, or an editor to make him cut it. Either the gayest episode of Home Improvement ever, or it's that one episode where Mr Rogers went insane.

MCO is located in a pretty decent spot to avoid the typical Orlando traffic. There's a toll road that goes straight from the airport to I-4 around the Disney area, and then you're headed away from the mess. -

It's called everything at Cigar City buddy. If you're willing to sample you might as well give up on sobriety while you're there. -
There's the completed Saag Paneer. Turned out really nice. The fried cheese is a bit chewy, not unlike tofu but with more texture.

Trying my hand at some basic cheesemaking. Won't eat till tomorrow but I've made up something like a paneer cheese today to go into a Saag Peneer tomorrow. Wish I'd gone authentic and used lemon juice but the recipe I found used buttermilk (rennet cultures). Made a nice soft fluffy ricottalike substance that I pressed most of the water out of. It's currently in a gallon plastic bag in the fridge with a cookie sheet over top and a heavy jug of water on top of that. Should be able to cut into cubes and fry in some peanut oil tomorrow. Then it gets cooked with mustard greens and lots of spices. Hoping it turns out good.
