Geneapalozza: A Celebration Of All Things Gene
Go Todd. Will be good to meet you. I don't care if you own this forum or whatever... consider this your FLA initiation/hazing.

Geneapalozza: A Celebration Of All Things Gene
The 3-5 weekend would actually be less stressful for me, if I'm honest. A week later and I'm likely to have to rush back up here to work the Monday.

Geneapalozza: A Celebration Of All Things Gene
Stop being so modest. Or maybe you've forgotten what an ass John really is. Either way, you'll be missed.

Geneapalozza: A Celebration Of All Things Gene
In for either weekend. In picking dates we've basically got to choose whether we want John or Al? Not cool.

What did you do today?
Does the fact that I enjoy saying wine names with every bit of authenticity I can manage mean it's working? Mostly I do it to confuse the local rednecks, who regularly fail when trying to pronounce "grigio" phonetically. Usually they stop at "grig" and realize they're all wrong but when I pronounce it correctly it's like I'm their 2001 Space Odyssey monolith come to advance North Florida humanity a few decades. I really should get off the subject of rednecks but my hatred for the south grows daily.

unpleasant surprises...
Being a fan of "indie" music from before indie was fashionable, and fashion became a huge part of "indie", I have a few favorite artists that I have actively refused to look at pictures of. Basically the opposite of the ugly radio personality. I've got pictures in my head of bearded freaks and if they turned out to be metro douches with $300 haircuts I'd be crushed.

One of the few record stores in America that's making money
I had to stay away from Bananas after a while. I probably made 10 really solid runs but I got sick of putting things back on the shelf after the quick GEMM check revealed a $50 price tag. Usually with some kind of explanation of rarity... "Actually this was the 3rd UK pressing where they found that the blue dye on the record sleeve was slightly off the original print, so they shut down production after only 3000 copies and went to a 4th pressing." !!!!!!! I don't give a shit I just want my damn Toto record!!! Still my greatest treasure though is the Y.M.C.A./Macho Man 12" single that Gene bought and gave to me. What a guy.

What are you listening to Part Two
You owe it to Weezer to get their first two albums. After that they fell apart and never got it back but those are the cornerstones of 90's pop rock.

The Live Music Thread
Finally some good shows coming up in Tallahassee. Built to Spill is on the 16th of this month, been a fan for years but I've never seen them. But much bigger than that is Joanna Newsom on the 15th of November. Not a fan of the new album but Ys could easily be a desert island selection, so hopefully she'll give me at least a couple ditties from that.

What did you do today?
Went and got my DOT physical out of the way. The place I got it done last time had a soundproof chamber and a real hearing test, hearing was good then but my ears have been feeling a little dull lately so I was hoping to get a good hearing test again without having to go to an audiologist. No such setup at this place, just a woman standing behind me whispering.

What are you listening to Part Two
Midly better than any recent Weezer album. I listened to Pinkerton yesterday and felt 16 again. Goddamn those half Japanese girls. I'm listening to Dirty Three's S/T album right now, as part of my new "hit shuffle on the fully loaded 160gb iPod classic and listen to whatever album comes up." This isn't bad, a lot mellower than what I'd normally be listening to at noon on a Monday but it works right now. I'm normally not a fan of this level of musical restraint, I like my post-rock to at least end in a big messy climax (the best kind!) This might be a will-delete after listening as I don't see ever seeking this out again.

What are you EATING right now?
My mom came here last weekend on her way from my sisters place in Tennessee back home to Tampa (the god-forsaken Alabama route, sorry PJ). Brought me my sister's choc chip cookies. Even though I possess her super secret recipe I can't copy her success. Partially because that would involve tracking down her super secret vanilla extract supplier. Basically black-market from how she describes it.

Hey man don't joke about Ernie. Burt will get jealous and come kick your ass hardcore.

What did you do today?
My mom is in town right now as well. On the way back from my sister's place in Nashville. Feel bad that I had to ask her to get a hotel but I'm in the bizarre situation of being in a house that only sleeps one.

What did you do today?
Ooh 4 pounds. Damn skinny people. I'm getting to the point where I need to lose 40. Too much eating out, trying the many great cheap options around the college. Those options are mostly ridiculously unhealthy. I'm doing laundry (at a laundromat) right now. I think the last time I really had a good look around the case was the last time I was here. Things have been busy at work which is a very good thing for my wallet. I dropped about 1500 cases off my truck last week, which is about equal to my busiest weeks back in Tampa. Around 100k in billings for the company.

NYC Beer and Laughs- September 24-25
I'll be at Cigar City for their "Fruit In The Room" event on Saturday. A ton of their beers with fruit treatments and a few guest taps and casks... including a New Belgium Eric's Ale (Lips of Faith series). I'm excited. Also one of my Tallahassee bars is having a Cigar City event on Wednesday with a cask and a few kegs. Still no regular CC distribution up here, the bar owner had to take a trip to Tampa to (somewhat illegally, this being a 3 tier state and all) obtain the goods. Phone calls will most definitely be traded.

What did you do today?
My family used to go to a place in Ocala for u-pick blueberries. They were more expensive than a store but the bushes were so old they had grown into trees and the berries were miles better than the grocery store nonsense. Only rule: you were assigned a tree and you had to pick it clean. Saw a few arrogant city-folk get ejected for that. We usually managed to pick up their berries.

What did you do today?
THH Manhattan.... evil. As I mentioned earlier, got the obligatory FSU game out of the way. Mostly involved walking and standing and sweating a lot. Took the bus that runs by my house but still had to hoof it a couple miles from the closest stop on that line to the stadium. Could have figured out some kind of transfer but needed the exercise. Probably won't do another football game till next year when my friend will be in a condo right next to the stadium.

Great American Beer Fest
Yes, GABF next year. Of course I'm in. Only super-cool brewery I haven't seen mentioned yet is Cascade, in the Pacific NW section. If you like a good sour check them out.
