  1. My thoughts were the same, until I directly compared it to the 650 and the Beyer 880. It may not be an improvement by 3, but it's definitely far more refined than anything in the under $500 pack. Disappointing to hear that they raised the prices, as $900 could have been a reasonable price point for it, IMO.
  2. I know, the paintball episode was fucking awesome.
  3. I really want to know how I missed out on the recording of that set. I've been to Park Ave. in Orlando before, and I'm on both their mailing list and PT's. Somehow I just completely zoned out until I bought that CD and saw where it came from on the credits. I did however, skip the most recent appearance of PT in Tampa. Their new album does nothing for me, and their typical live show is an unimaginative rehash of the most recent album. The did their first show with Gavin Harrison in Tampa, and that was the only time I've seen them really stretch out and try some different things.
  4. I store quite a lot of beer, and I think somewhere around 9% is a good ABV to suggest good aging. Heavy stouts, barleywines, and the darker belgians all age very nicely. Cheap barleywines in particular, such as the Sierra Nevada Bigfoot or Stone Old Guardian are totally different beasts when aged for a year or more (up to 10, although diminishing returns probably set in at around 3 years). Strong stouts age up nicely in about 6 months, and in general I wouldn't give them more than a couple years. I haven't stored many dark belgians since they're not my favorite style, but I've heard that for example the Chimay Grande Reserve takes about 3 years to really change its stripes. If you have a beer that's lighter in color and slightly lower in ABV, and question storing it, check for a yeast sediment on the bottom. Ommegang Biere De Mars for example is light in color and 6.5% but ages nicely because of the added yeast in the bottle. As a general rule, the thicker and sweeter the beer the more it will break down and taste better over time. Not sure about storing after refrigeration. I keep mine at FL air conditioned room temperature (78 degrees) in dark boxes and haven't had a bottle go bad yet. All the cellaring guides suggest 55 degrees for storage but up to a couple years I think I can get away with the higher temps since I'm not interested in aging more than a year or two.
  5. What kinda fancy shindig you need that for Al?
  6. Just bought a couple very cheap FLAC albums from Orlando artist Thomas Wynne (& The Believers, his band). Excellent southern rock, songwriting's not quite *there* yet but he's getting close to nailing it down. The guy has a voice on him though, one that should propel him to a decent level of fame if there's any justice in the world. There's also a free recording of a concert at Skipper's, my local jamband/blues redneck hippie joint. It's not superb quality but very listenable and shows the much more jam oriented side of their live performances. Check out "You Can't Hurt Me" from that set and marvel at the intense 3 minute distorted harmonica solo, and just how damned tight this band is live.
  7. If you'd pop in the chatroom once in a while you'd know things. Moving because I'm sick of Tampa, and my friend Rob will be going to school there for the next few years. My company's getting ready to open a very small warehouse in Talla and it'll be very advantageous for them to send me there rather than hire 3 all new drivers and deal with training them from afar.
  8. Just had my weekly dose of Thai food from the temple. Disturbing trend: Old People! It's always been a fiercely young crowd there, about evenly split between SE Asians of all ages and young tatted neo-hippies of every other color and creed. Now though, it looks like a retirement community up in there. Did someone print coupons in the Parade Magazine? Maybe a review in Old People Weekly? Dear Christ, how do we get rid of them? Many of you know I'm planning a move to Tallahassee in a couple months. My last regret was leaving behind my awesome Buddhist Temple. Not any more.

    Top Gear

I'm normally pretty indeterminate on the subject of soccer, but the fact that it's running all over my Top Gear makes it evil!

    Top Gear

Looking for information on when the next real series of Top Gear starts and coming up short. Anyone got an idea?
  11. Good stuff Mike! I swung by Vinyl Fever and found that the Modest Mouse album I went for didn't actually make it in time for today. I did get the new Dark Side of the Moon covered by The Flaming Lips etc. on seafoam green vinyl. Also got The Soft Pack's debut album on 6 7" records, didn't know much about them but it's a cool package, and I picked up singles by Drive-By Truckers, Sharon Jones, and Built to Spill. Add in the Bjork Surrounded box set that they had on sale, and it's not a bad haul.
  12. Here's a complete release list: http://recordstoreday.com/Page/836 I'm going to swing over to my local for Modest Mouse' The Moon and Antarctica on 180g vinyl.
  13. Just went on a vinyl run:
  14. Hippity Hoppity Burpedy Day Good Sir. Chip Chip. Or something like that. Edit: Forgot the "Squire". That part is important.
  15. Today's Vinyl: 5.1 DTS DVD's: It's been a good day.
  16. It's a lot easier to read at the link from the top of Rick's post. Lots of extra BOLD to really drive the points home. Keeps the eyes moving along better.
  17. Vinyl. New phono stage sounding very nice.
  18. Florida has some nursing homes large enough to host CanJam.
  19. I may be pulling one of these, , but the differences and benefits are not negligible in any system I've heard the T1 with so far. Maybe this cable that Ari put together for me has some magic mil-spec pixie dust that's doing more than just some ohmage .
  20. Nevermind, I just got your ticket Jeff. They were sold out online so I scrambled out across town to pick up yours and one for another friend.
  21. My 8 tickets are booked up so go ahead and grab another one Jeff (possible to walk up and buy but as it says on the poster it's sold out the last 3 years).
