What are you reading now?
I would say that headshot is less-than-flattering, but he's got nothing on this one: Edit:

What are you listening to Part Two
Munly & The Lee Lewis Harlots Holy damn. I've still got a lot of this album to process. Right now I'm still stuck (in a good way) on the second song, "Big Black Bull Comes Like a Caesar". Excellent gothic-americana from Denver.

What are you EATING right now?
Just got back from El Mercadito, a very nice mexican joint real close to my house here. Got a beef tongue taco (authentic style), el pastor gordita, and the best tamale I've had pretty much ever. Grand total with a mexican coke: $13. I'm stuffed.

I have a drinking problem...can't figure out what to drink...
Yeah that didn't effect Publix at all. I had 18 fresh eggs in the fridge when I heard about that so I checked right away. Also the entire point of this aged eggnog recipe is that the huge booze loadout kills whatever could be in the eggs or milk. The aging process is really a matter of the proteins and fat breaking down, combining with the sugar, and being super smooth and tasty. But you need the booze to keep it all safe for the ensuing months. The basic measurements of liquor in my nog is not far off of the recipe I used, it just had some cognac involved and less rum. Anyway this turns out much better than pasteurized homogenized lab thickened grocery store nog.

I have a drinking problem...can't figure out what to drink...
Made up a batch of eggnog last night, but won't drink it till December. I did the same last year and it was excellent. In a one gallon container: 14 egg yolks. 1 cup cane sugar 6 cups milk 1 cup heavy cream 1 750ml bottle of Rebel Yell bourbon 1 cup of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 1 cup of Rip Van Winkle 2 cups of Appleton Reserve Yes, the milk curdles and the whole thing is pretty gross for a while but time heals all. By December it will be a thick, creamy, and quite boozy.

- Happy birthday, NightWoundsTime!
Heh, it's still a 10 hour drive, pretty much the same as from Tampa. I do still think about those donuts often. There's a little shop in Quincy FL that I need to try but I'm not expecting it to be as good. The birthday donuts were Krispy Kremes, and I had 8 of them yesterday. Ugh.- The Live Music Thread
Janelle Monae. Bad sound but she's pretty cool. Had drinks at the Chili's on campus beforehand and the guitarist (Caliendo) showed up with the promoter for some quick pre-set shots. Good guys.- Seen any of these groups in concert?
Saw the Refugee All Stars at Bonnaroo in '06, while wandering between sets. They were good enough that I decided to forget about whatever I was headed to. The documentary about them is on Netflix streaming if you've got access to that.- What are you listening to Part Two
Sufjan Stevens - All Delighted People EP. An 8 song EP that's nearly 60 minutes. $5 for FLACs from Bandcamp. No real verdict yet, the "original version" of the title track is very oddly mixed but there was potential there at some point. The classic rock version is much better. That's about as far as I've gotten so far.- Happy birthday, NightWoundsTime!
I'm not in Tampa. Come to Tallahassee. I may even come meet you somewhere, but there's no way you're getting my address.- What are you smoking right now?
Spice is nice.- Happy birthday, NightWoundsTime!
Thanks all, it's a good birthday so far. Got pizza last night after work and came back to put down a lot of good beer with my friend Rob. Had a bottle of Cascade Apricot and a bottle of DFH Bitches Brew. Tested listening to the album while drinking the beverage. It wasn't a perfect match for me. Breakfast today, followed by doughnuts. I'm exercising my right to be a pig. Tonight: Janelle Monae in the outdoors at FSU, free concert. It will be good, no matter what Vicki thinks. Is that a nomination or a fact? Of course I'll be there. Make it September 25th for the fruit/sour beer tasting at Cigar City.- What are you EATING right now?
Getting ready to warm up yesterday's curry. Got a nice red snapper from the fresh fish market around the corner from my house (with BP's extra special seasoning). Mostly fresh ingredients in the food processor to make my curry paste with coconut milk from a can. Had them clean the fish with the backbone still connected on one side, cooked the whole thing in the curry and then cleaned the meat off. Finished with some red peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms. Came out pretty damned excellent.- I have a drinking problem...can't figure out what to drink...
Found my liquor store, but I'll have some real problems with what to buy there. Best scotch and bourbon selection I've ever seen. They have about a 6 foot stretch of shelf with nothing but cask strength rare bottles, from companies like Spirits of Scotland. Prices are more than reasonable as well, for example the Glenrothes 1985 is $90.- Ins-n-Outs of In-N-Out
I will be attempting those methods for sure. Never would have dreamed of mustard grilling, that part is definitely a big part of the flavor. And holy crap @ 60/40 ground chuck. Time to get the grinder attachment for my Kitchenaid mixer. At least on the Foreman grill that fat will have somewhere to run, I'm guessing in the restaraunts they've got grease gutters on their grill station.- What did you do today?
Finally getting back into the head-case swing after fixing my internet so it will stay on for more than a few seconds. Had to re-ground the cable properly, the installer just stuck a clamp on the painted meter box... f-ing brilliant. Now it's grounded in with the outlet where all the electronics are plugged in, so no ground loop hums. Renewed my drivers license today. New Florida rules require that you bring a social security card and birth certificate along with two proofs of address. Realized that I didn't have either of the first two and just having moved (and having no internet) made it a nightmare to deal with. Enjoy my $75, idiots at DHSMV. Rest of the day should be uneventful. Might head down to Fermentation Lounge this evening, saw on their facebook that they put on a keg of Brooklyn Buzz Bomb last night, sounds interesting.- What did you do today?
That's pretty badass, comgrats. @jvlgato: a driver at my company pulled a similar move something like fifteen years ago. They still call him Sparky Bob. Thanks for the well-wishes. Got my rug, nothing exciting. Just a bound piece of beige berber from Lowe's. Electronics are pretty much set up. Need to put all the records up on my Ikea shelves today, and get the kitchen set. Posting now from Bruegger's bagels. Far better breakfast, similar price, free wi-fi.- What did you do today?
Yesterday: Drove to Tallahassee. Unloaded uhaul. Sweated like a sweaty mofo. Had a giant sushi bowl at SumoSabi. Slept. Today: Posting at McD's. Damn their free wi-fi, I already have a serious weakness for their breakfast foods. Got to find a large area rug today. Emailing craigslist peoples. I failed to notice how soft and off kilter the living room floor in my house was. Not something that's going to fall through, and nothing a rug won't fix. Old house with old house problems but I'm already falling in love with the place.- What did you do today?
I'm moving Friday. I'm working tomorrow, then into hardcore packing mode on Wednesday.- What did you do today?
Got up, got a bowl of Pho down at the temple. Spiced the hell out of it, and ate in the Florida heat. One of the better sweaty meals of my life. After that picked up a few extra items to bring home, since this was the last time I'll see the place for a while. They even had two of my favorites that show up rarely. Came home, took a good nap, munched on more Thai food, packed and cleaned, watched Top Gear. Now I'm doing this but more packing and cleaning is in order. Not yet feeling the move exhaustion though, I'm doing this at a good pace.- Harvey Pekar, RIP
Thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and the episode of No Reservations that he was on. RIP.- What did you do today?
Vicki, haven't been keeping up here but saw your post on facebook and immediately thought of this: http://comedians.jokes.com/louis-c-k-/videos/louis-c-k----ankle-reconstruction But srsly, that blows.- What are you EATING right now?
Heh, I actually bought a half-dozen blue crabs last Wednesday. There's an asian market nearby here that has a pretty decent seafood section, including some live fish. Everybody in the store seemed to be going for the live crabs so I jumped on board. No idea where they were from but they were definitely fresh and tasty. Ended up making some very meaty crab cakes, just enough egg & bread crumbs to hold it all barely together for the frying process. Excellent. Serious learning curve to cleaning a blue crab. I used pretty much everything but the lungs, only got a couple pieces of shell or cartilege in the mix. Took me over an hour to cook and clean 6. - Happy birthday, NightWoundsTime!
