  1. Roasting two chickens tonight, partly for a black bean chicken chili type thing, to be made with the chicken & stock made from the bones (also tonight, I'm rested up and ready to destroy some birds. Chili to be assembled tomorrow. Only thing no "from scratch" will be the tomatoes, because I hate dealing with tomatoes and don't mind canned. Yes, this is coming to a TamJam near you, along with my last soup that I've still got a frozen quart of, a super chunky sausage, veggie, & northern bean concoction.
  2. Had lunch at Five Guys. Little Bacon Cheeseburger all the way + raw onions. Regular Cajun fries (I did good, only ate what was in the cup, no bag fries were consumed.)
  3. Damn CJ, sorry to hear that. Just went and picked up my liquor contribution to this meet: A Scott's Selections 1977 Glenlivet single cask. Bottles in 2004 so 27 years, 53% cask strength. Not as pricey as one would think for such an age and rarity, hope it wasn't a shitty cask they dumped on poor old Scott.
  4. Just the first option I've come across Friday night. There's a halfway decent looking Jam Band at Skipper's Smokehouse. Best redneck hippie bar in the universe, and Elliott Cohn's Cosmic Sweat Society from New Orleans sounds like the band to see there. Only a $10 cover, and there's awesome cheap eats on site, including fried gator tail and a killer corn chowder. The Berns folks can join us in their Sunday best after consuming their riches. If people just want to hang around CCB and get food and go back to CCB (not a horrible option for a Friday night), I'd suggest Square One burgers.
  5. It started with all of them standing awkwardly on stage in the same costumes, and Craig explained that they couldn't get the rights. Very short cold open, not much more happened before the break IIRC. Browsing random Youtubes at the moment, just found this which made me kinda happy.
  6. Pfft modern day homeschoolers. In my day the only place you could go for homeschool textbooks was Bob Jones University or Pensacola Christian University. No, I did not get a well rounded education, but I am a good little Christian boy at heart.
  7. Hey Hey! Usually I miss birthday threads altogether and mostly due to gross negligence. But I caught this one in time and it's a good one to catch. Reminds me to go find some beer in a box for Tampa.
  8. Mike definitely wants the milk, but can he buy the cow?
  9. OMG I just saw an ad on a website. As in, actually saw it, it caught my attention. Pitchfork: Home If you're not getting the effect be sure to roll over the ad itself.
  10. Finding raw cow milk for mozzarella is very difficult in Florida. I read of a shadowy group around Tampa once that met a truck at an undisclosed location once a month for a few gallons of untreated raw milk.
  11. Your best range in town is going to be Knight's Shooting Sports, just across the bridge in Clearwater. Indoor rifle range as well.
  12. That's beautiful Justin, don't let her tell you otherwise.
  13. As for the downfall of the Buddhist temple that I'd mentioned to Gene, it all came down to parking. As the place has gotten more popular over the last 5 or so years, they've always been able to use the huge field across the street as overflow parking. That field belongs to a southern Baptist church, and the word I got was that a few members threw their weight around to get the parking situation shut down. I of course imagine those members to be toothless angry Baptists, but who knows, maybe someone made a rational argument against 200 cars being parked in their grassy field. It could even be a huge fire hazard, if mowing isn't done regularly enough. End result: Cars are now being parked all along the river and seating is greatly compressed into the garden. Food is still great, but the whole thing feels claustrophobic now instead of peaceful.
  14. The burger on the Sunday menu is one of my favorites in Tampa too. Anduille/Angus patty with caramelized onions and pecans. What makes it is the bread, which is almost doughnutlike in texture. Perfect.
  15. Early morning laundry... Yay. Amusingly enough there are a pair of homeless people sitting here watching The Negotiator. Nobody else in the place.
  16. Grahame, you found Ella's. You are a tireless googler . Actually we were there for the last beer meet. Their chicken and waffles are quite awesome, and chocolate bacon is to die for.
  17. TBH, I'm doing about the same financially since my move. Did not mean to mock your finances. Just figured that if you were waiting for a $99 special it wasn't really going to happen from Roanoke to Tampa.
  18. just looked up rdu to tpa. $200 roundtrip is still pretty reasonable.
  19. 16 Pounds? What small army are you feeding tomorrow?
  20. Set up my iPhone as a iPhone as a PC remote. Since moving to the new place my computer spends 90% of its time hooked up to the TV as a media center. Using a mouse was getting to be a pain, so now I've got a nice wi-fi touchpad with custom controls per application. Technology...
  21. I'm not sure that Tampa is ready for Tyll. Also, I'd pay money to have a recording of Grahame's face whilst riding in the Atom (with Wayne driving). That would be a fitting payback to our own uncomfortable documentary shots.
  22. I'd definitely go for some McLaughlin and Santana. Just listened last week to Love Supreme and Love Devotion Surrender back to back. Just got back from the Joanna Newsom show. Such a charming performer, my love is solidified. She played everything I wanted to hear, and with a malleable 5 piece band behind her to interpret the orchestral stuff. The venue here is quite nice as well. Crystal clear sound and the crowd tonight was very respectful.
  23. That does suck indeed. Exams run late for you, every Florida school I've been around ends within the first week of December. Grahame, great news with the van. Reminds me I need to lock down my rental car. I drive a serious beater and rent something the couple times a year I need to go further than I trust my own vehicle. I guess I'll rent the greenest thing I can since we seem to be set on transportation, and I won't be sober anyway.
  24. The only truly great Mexican food in Tampa comes from a bus. Luckily that bus is parked and open 24/7. A late night (early morning?!) trip will be made, somebody remember to stay sober. Then again your friend may be talking about some place in St Pete, an area about which I've always been wilfully ignorant.
  25. For those outsiders who don't understand the Tampa politics and the "prejudice" at stake: Mons venus is a strip club run by Joe Redner. Redner is infamous for fighting with city council and sometimes making a real pain in the ass of himself, and claiming 1st amendment rights on nudity. Joe Redner Jr. runs CCB, and CCB is located in the building that's housed the offices of Redner Sr's various businesses for years. Oh and Redner Sr runs for public office regularly, and has run against Gwen Miller, one of the representatives who voted against the zoning. "Strip Club King: The Story of Joe Redner" (80 minute documentary on Youtube. NSFW, lots of nudity.)
