Quick question about Apogee miniDAC USB ASIO driver setting
I've got a netbook running XP with redbook FLAC files played by Foobar, that I hooked up to the miniDAC via USB, so I should just set the Apogee USB ASIO driver to 44.1/16 bit, right? Any reason to set it at 24 bit? (Still waiting for my PICO to arrive, but I dusted off the miniDAC to try with the netbook. I've been using the 840C primarily, and I'd forgotten how good the miniDAC sounds!)

Just Brought a Inspiron Mini 9
This thread and an incoming PICO motivated me to pick up a netbook. Ended up with an Asus 1000H, bumped up memory to 2gig and HD to 320gig and 6-cell battery (uh...not cheap anymore, but I figure this will allow me to carry around 200gig+ of pure flac music). Still charging up battery and loading key programs (eg Foobar, etc). So far, I like.

Please recommend a good remedy for back pain?
Someone already mentioned it, but investing in a very firm mattress did wonders for my back. Also, I have one of those pull-up bars (that you screw into a door frame). Not doing too many pull-ups these days, but just hanging from the bars seems to help. then there's crack... ("Don't do a drug named after your ass" - Denis Leary)

Little Dot MkVI balanced tube amp?
Swapped the stock fans for Zaward ones - result is seriously schweeet. OK this fan business is pretty ghetto, but the overall result of running balanced system is addictive, the LDVI is getting the most use these days (I'm on a DIY roll now, soldered some spades on my speaker wires as well tonight - tomorrow I think I'll build me a friggin Beta22)

Little Dot MkVI balanced tube amp?
no disrespect, but that's a pretty sweeping generalization? thanks for the fan recommendation though.

Little Dot MkVI balanced tube amp?
I absolutely agree - you can just tell this thing would be a sizzler w/o the fans. This is one you don't leave unattended, like leave the house or go to sleep. Had it going 4-5 hrs straight yesterday, and - again with the fans - the overall heat was acceptable to me.

Little Dot MkVI balanced tube amp?
I've yet to open mine, but PKJames on head-fi has already completed a successful fan-echdectomy. Honestly, without that precedent, I would have canceled my order or returned the product. The fan noise is that bad.

Little Dot MkVI balanced tube amp?
I'm listening as I type: 840C --> the cheapest XLR ICs ever (must replace!) --> LDVI --> HD580 (hardwired with Enigma Oracle to XLR) This is the best I've heard the HD580s. HD650s are amazing as well, but the bass is too much for my taste. The bass control is the best feature - IMHO - of the LDVI (don't know if this specific to LDVI or a benefit generally of going balanced) - taut, punchy bass.

Little Dot MkVI balanced tube amp?
OK the following items arrived today: --build quality is excellent --heat issue: not bad (but that's with the fans), I have other tube amps that run warmer. Sure they could have put it in a bigger enclosure and put heat sinks like Pass Aleph 3, but it's their product and I don't have to buy it if it really bothers me. --speaking of the fan, it is LOUD and it does BOTHER ME, must be replaced! But that's mechanical noise, there is no amp hum/hiss. --sonically, it's superb - there must be something to this 'balanced mode'. I never really regretted selling off my PS-1, L3000, and K1000 (as the funds were - for me - better allocated elsewhere), but this cost effective 'balanced' side project with the LDVI absolutely seals it for me. Kind of like the cheap rebound date metaphorically with headphones... This was US$720 delivered to my door. I encourage others to try it. That's the price of a couple of dinners - or if I include bird's nest/abalone/shark's fin in my neck of the woods, maybe just ONE dinner. You can bash this product all you want, but I think what LD's delivered is quite amazing. In use:

Recommend low-power speaker amps
I've been eyeing Leben stuff lately as an 'end all' upgrade: Have had excellent results with Almarro A205AmkII (in top right corner in this picture): Have no idea how they would fair with your specific speaker.

no offence taken. used to be huge fan of american baseball (Clemens, McGuire, Sosa, even Bonds etc etc), but have been turned off exactly by the pervasive steroid scandals. I just needed to borrow Pudge's cod piece (figuratively) to fend off Smeggy's roundhouse kick to my groin...(Smeggy, please - for the love of god, we're trying to have a second child...)

OK Hopstretch, I just put my order in. Don't be chicken, just dew eet. Don't let the mob here pressure you... (I guess this hobby is only fun until you lose an eye...or burn down your house?!)

Little Dot MkVI balanced tube amp?
phhhttt! I'm going to get one anyway. I don't use headphones that much these days, but the few phones I've kept are terminated in 4-pin XLR, and I have balanced source. For US$700, I'm willing to give balanced a try.

Happy Birthday Riceboy
I agree, also try spam in ramen (Voltron is obviously a philistine...), but we connoisseurs digress; Happy B-Day again RB - best to you and your family.

XLR interconnect recommendations
I don't see mogami option on Blue Jean website, only Belden or Star Quad... Or is there another source or mogami XLR?
