no problem, DC. FF, I'll respond to your PM, then to Padam.
-
FYI - I was able to pick up the 2nd 404LE locally. I think DC was interested in them first, let me know. If not, then Fierce Freak. otherwise, anyone else? or I'll keep as backup pair.

per above post, no mark-up - just what the shop charges plus shipping. Let me know.
-
a local stax dealer here in HK (Mingo), so that may not be attractive to you. But if you don't mind the serial number of the last pair, I'm happy to pick up and ship to you (it was HK$4900 = US$630, no tax in HK, shipping I figure ~US$20). Probably can't do it until later in the week given work commitments and this place is a bit out of the way.

yes, hence embarrassed to post here! sold it off with my first pair of K1000s... will check out Take 5

No, not really obsessed with wires/cables. Just that when I search for 'upgrade K1000 speaker cable adapter', Vampire CCC keeps coming up, so I figure why not (it's like 4 out 5 dentists recommended...). Just want something better than the crap random wire I used in the first build. will check out the neotech, thnx

nice...it's a Bryston. even has a headphone jack (not that I need that function). will check with local Bryston dealer, or see if AA ships overseas.

sorry to bump old thread but didn't want to start new one on same simple topic. Want to switch back and forth from K1000 and speakers from amp. Besides Adcom mentioned above, any other quality speaker switchers that you may be aware of?
-
embarrassed to be posting here in DIY, but here goes: Recently re-acquired a K1000 but this one did not come with speaker cable adapter. I have some neutrik XLR plugs and using some cheap-ass speaker cable lying around (and following the pin-out guide in the manual), I soldered and built a working K1000 speaker cable adapter (for me, that's quite an accomplishment). Now I want to build a better one, using Vampire CCC wire. I've searched the web (including Vampire's site), but can't figure out where to purchase. Could someone point me in the right direction? also what gauge would be appropriate? thanks

resistance is futile...got a new 404LE today (thanks to tip from local HFier). waiting on an incoming SRD7Pro (had a SRD7mkII before but I chickened out of 'stats then), looking forward to my first 'stat experience. (my K1000, recently reacquired, looks pissed...) btw, the local store was down to two last pairs - the final pair remaining after my purchase had a serial number of 0666 I was tempted to buy both, but no way I'm going to bring that last evil spawn into my house.

FWIW, I was probably one of the most skeptical of Mac/OS X because of my background and work requirements, but once I made the leap of faith recently - it has been without the best experience...to go MAC. It all makes sense once you do it. In our household, we now have an iMAC (wife), MacMini (me), and ..cough..cough..hackintosh netbook (me, stealth mode). All the pure Windows PCs are gone! (although, I use Windows via Bootcamp quite often). However, I do not have direct experience with MBP to share with you. Good luck!

Thanks Nate, otherwise I would have missed this (sleep at the wheel as usual...)

I realized that after I posted:palm::palm: but we're ahead in time, it's the 20th in Hong Kong already (if you want, I can tell you what happens with the stock market tomorrow:cool:) everyone keep this super secret until tomorrow.

Hope you enjoy a special plate of spam today!

I placed my order... will let you guys know.

I'm on an Uncle Tupelo/Son Volt/Wilco bender...there are Farrar people, there are Tweedy people -- I am BOTH! This album ranks in my top five favorite live albums - give it a try!!
-
GD -> Phish -> Uncle Tupelo - Son Volt ^ Wilco for some reason, I've gone off the deep end with american 'roots' rock. this is good, good shit. these musicians are amazing. maybe I should apply for a green card...

hey welcome to HC!
-
just checked, yup. btw, these are lighter than the PS-1s I used to have (and therefore are more comfortable...so far)
-
just got'em in Hong Kong! unfortunately a business trip, so I won't really be able to try them until the weekend. Just a snippet now - miles/dead/phish etc - but I already know these will be my main phones (now that I bailed on balanced). These rock, literally! btw, I don't mind the F1 at all.
-
strange that the HD414 will be the arbiters of whether you keep these or not. Looking forward to my pair shortly.

OK I've let this cook in for awhile. On my speaker sytem (Super 8 Alnicos), honestly I'm not sure if the cap mod is improving sound, but I've always been enamored by Omega sound signature, and frankly my ears may not be up to the task! However, where I can truly distinguish a difference: prior to cap roll, I never enjoyed headphone out from Almarro; now I truly enjoy running my HD580 and DT880-600 out of the Almarro (HD650 less so). (don't knock the DT880-600 ohm, I know it's not favored on HC, and I've wavered on selling/not selling, but with proper amplification, it is sublime. It is the only one of the so-called 'mid tier' phones - HD650, DT880, K701/2 that gets me close to the K1000 signature) p.s.: I see that you're selling your Almarro. If it were 220V, I would consider buying it for a second office system. Good luck!
