Wow. I'm for a young person I'm hopelessly out of touch / uninterested in much of today's music. Today in the sociological sense.

I've found I dont enjoy rock/metal/etc in concert settings because of the excess of clipping and stupid-loud volume. Someday I'd like to see jazz performed in an intimate setting without microphones; just the instruments themselves. I'm not up to speed on current jazz artists, but someday I'll get around to doing that, I think. Obviously it would probably not be anyone famous though. \

I'm not completely past-only, but the allure of so much music already available far outweighs the excitement from one or two new albums from current artists every few months. I guess I do both, but past music to a much, much larger degree.

Thats exactly why I love it so much (well, the Beatles anyway). I'm a white 25 year old male who happens to appreciate quality; I've got nothing to do with most anything on radio or MTV, etc. Thankfully I've got an enormous pool of music from past years to draw from. And it all is new to me, and far better than anything American Idol is likely to bless us with. Now I'm a freaking 50s/60s jazz nut. After hearing Time Out, I've never been the same. That album changed my fucking life. I imagine if I was older, I would view the Beatles as played out, but I doubt I'd view the jazz the same way, as its not 2 minutes long per song, typically.

Beatles. I'm surprised disappointed at the ramped hatred for Beatles here. They have some great albums, and great songs that aren't usually heard on the radio. I'd suggest actually hearing an entire album by the band before casually dismissing them, if you haven't already. Don't go into it expecting Slayer or 2LiveCrew, and you should be able to appreciate at least some of the breadth of their work. Much of the pop music you all listen to today was already written by the Beatles, so you like them whether you realize it or not I'm not a huge Stones fan, but I can respect their contribution to music. And I see its only fitting we are talking 'bout horses, ponies, etc, since McJagger looks like a fuggin' donkey.
