    Magnepan 1.7

Listened to Maggies 1.7 today at Lyric Hi-Fi in NYC. They were powered by large Macintosh amp and Lector Trasport/DAC combo and setup very nicely in a room dedicated just to them and Maggies 3.6. Not bad but there is still that issues with imaging. As with all Maggies I heard there is a lack of precession in imaging. Image is big and wide but somehow not pin-point type that I get with Apogees or dynamic speakers. I remember Soundlabs did better in this regard. Overall I think bass response is better than 1.6 and lower models and overall sound was very dynamic and tonaly accurate. Not bad for 2K, but I am not sure they will be an upgrade from Apogees, more side step.

  12. Hi! Some of you might already know that I started a small headphone related wiki a few years back. It is coming along nicely, but I only know so much and only have a little time to update it with info. A lot of folks joined and contributed a ton of information, but more is always better. This is basically my Modus Operandi: I am not sure how many of you want to contribute or even know about it, but if you do please join and help us all out. Sorry for posting it this here but I was hoping this might be of interest to some of you.
  13. Wizzard - Wizzard Brew (1973) This album kicks ass. Only Roy Wood can mix rock n' roll with very heavy distorted cellos, bassoon and tuba all drenched in ring modulation and phasing effects. Just as the last two Move albums this is superb stuff.

  20. I really like some IDM stuff, but mostly listen to old school IDM like Mouse on Mars, The Black Dog, Plaid, The Sabres of Paradise, Two Lone Swordsmen and some other stuff from Shadow Records and Warp. As far as DnB goes I really like Spring Heel Jack
  21. Any particular Amarok version on CD sounds better than others? I might just pick it up on Amazon, I don't have a lot of Mike Oldfield, but like what I have heard.
  22. Go for 2010 Panasonic models, they have better black levels (5,000,000:1 Native vs 2,000,000:1 Native) and new anti-glare filters. S1 is good, I have a G10 same panel, but not as good as new G25/G20 models. They don't come in very large sizes though. I did not see that black increase level issue that is being discussed at AVS forums by the way.
  23. Yeah, 1812 Overture, with cannons blasting can stress any lesser system no doubt. I have it on CD, but I don't my version is that explosive although I just might not remember.
