Sony ECR500 & 600 - few Qs
I have this one It seems to be the same as ECR500. So I guess I can just push it in using a bit of force. To be honest I think both boxes sound almost the same with ECR500, but I like the low profile of the ECA-60, other than that I don't think it makes much difference.

What cable is this? It looks like ECR500 yet you manged to plug it all the way in. I am afraid to push it in since it seems very tight.

Sony ECR500 & 600 - few Qs
I tried ECR500 with ECA-60 (ECR-600 transformer box) and it works great, even thought the plug does not plug all the way in. Any ideas on how to adjust the sockets accept bigger pins without damaging it?

Sony ECR500 & 600 - few Qs
So the cable was the same as ECR800? Interesting. I read about it and have this info on the Wiki as well in addition to some other brochures and stuff. Since the plug fits I might try to plug it in just not all the way and see how ECR600 box sounds, if it sounds better I will need to figure out a way to make the socket less tight.

Sony ECR500 & 600 - few Qs
Finally got my ECR-500. I was about to try ECR-600 box with ECR-500 and although the pins sockets look the same ECR-500 pins are a bit bigger and fit in ECR-600 box very very tightly and not all the way in. Did does anyone have a picture of ECR-600 plug? I want to see how it looks.

Steel patina
So I looked up Simichrome Polish and this this what the description is: This would make it unsafe to use on this pre as the finish is Aranya chrome, as in chrome plated I guess.

Steel patina
Well it's definitely more shinny than Dodd

Sounds like a good plan. I really want to hear your impressions on the amp as it is now.

I would really like to try Cadence Arista (dynamic / electrostatic hybrids). I bet you can guess where they are in the pic above.

The Headcase Stax thread
But you will listen to it first, right? Before you dismantle it to a pile of spare parts?

Yeah, and makes it difficult to take pictures so the owner is not reflected in his underwear

After some careful camera angling I was able to get the labels to show up very nicely: You can also see one of the bigger scratches next to monitor knob.

Steel patina
Yeah, engraved, just like them fancy Grado metal cups. Take a look at the original patina covered pic. Just for the heck of it I will try to take a pic today with all lettering visible, not going to be easy.

Steel patina
The lettering is engraved and it's there, the engraving it deep but because the pre is so shinny it's hard to see from some angles. I can take another picture straight on so that you can see how it looks. Maas polish is very gentle and non abrasive so it did not remove anything but patina, it did not even remove a few fine scratches that were there. I know there is different product that can be used to buff the fine scratches, but I don't mind them so I don't think I will be using it.

So I looked around and found that Maas metal polish works great on this kind of stuff. I went to Home Depot and picked up some Maas and microfiber cloth and now my pre looks like this: Knobs are still a bit dirty, I need to remove them and clean them up, but I am too lazy for this kind of major work.

Solid Gold Cadillac - Solid Gold Cadillac (1972) I love Minton and discovered he was in this band in the 70’s. So I bought both of these as a two CD set. Apparently I am a sucker for this kind of stuff. Rock, Jazz, Soul and experimental music living, coexisting and feeding of each other. Westbrooks piano/organ works is stupendously good and Minton vocals are awesome, as always. Totally original approach to fusion. Compositions range from fun to scary to tranquil and are beautifully arranged. "Brain Damage" seems a bit more energetic with jazzier overall feel to it, but both are good and in my opinion criminally underrated.

HD800? Another rumor?
Try changing tube to RCA or Toshiba. I was surprised how much the sound cleared up with new tubes, more bass impact as well. The sad part it I had to give them back cos they were not my Now I need to find some nice Toshiba tubes for my T1S
