Speaker Porn

907 posts in this topic

I admit it -- though primarily a headphone guy I enjoy drooling over pictures of beautiful speakers. For the artistry, for the engineering, for the lulz. I would enjoy seeing particularly striking examples you may happen to come across. :)

These really struck me today. New Vienna Acoustics Klimt series. Concentric midrange/tweeter units adjustable for tilt and toe-in. Murata supertweeters. Eton spider-cone woofers. 22Hz - 100kHz.

The black one makes me think of Barad-d

I have been reading about those quite a bit lately. The all black monitors on those stands are particularly striking.

There used to be a magazine, I think it was called Audio -- they had the greatest gear porn.

I used to read that magazine when I was in highschool. I think there might be a box full of old issues in my mother's basement. There was another publication that was much shorter lived called Audio-Video Interiors. The gear featured in it was always as Serious (I distinctly remember a beautiful NYC apartment that had a surround system featuring five Bose cube speakers) but the photography was drool-inducing.

The gradiated multiple small panels in an arc says "Soundlab" but I don't recognise the model(s). Aren't there disadvantages to having them that close together was my next question but looking at it, perhaps the two in the centre are configured as a kind of subwoofer?

I'm redecorating my bedroom this summer. Perhaps I should put the new room together with the primary aim of ESL57 space...

Those are Sound-Lab U-1's and UB-1's in the center. UB-1's are dedicated bass panels which reach down to 20Hz at full or nearly full output. :o

You can always place ESL's side by side as the radiation pattern is a figure 8 with no output to the sides.

Mmmmm XA200.5's..... Did any of you catch the XA30.5 review in the latest Stereophile? The written review was crap as was to be expected but the measurements were tasty. :)

Does anybody remeber what amps were/are used to drive the wall of 'stats at SME? It's probably in the Quad book but it's been a long day...

I think they're X350.5 in that picture. I didn't see the review for the XA30.5, I need to renew my Stereophile subscription.

That 30W amp can dish out some serious power even if it has left Class A to pull it off. The perfect ESL57 amp?

I know they are X350.5's but I want some Class A in my life. :)
