Woodworkers of Head Case unite!
After two hours of reviewing the Benchcrafted plans, I have only been able to deduce that the bench seems to be built out of various pieces of wood and the red thing seems to screw onto the spinny things. Think I might go back to making beer openers and put this on hold as I might be getting myself into a 5 year, $20k build based on my skill set.

I am hoping some magical fairies show up at night night and do it all for me. No Steve, not what you are picturing.

Got a box of vice stuff that is now no longer needed. Might still build the Moxon vice for a clamp on vice but the Sjoberg probably will not be used.

People go both ways with the maple type, but I am thinking hard maple. Some say the softer variant is less likely to damage a workpiece, but I really see no way that the workbench is going to damage a work piece because it is too hard. Also, I found about 50BF of hard maple over in the storage unit so I think that will be enough for a top.

If I can get the maple for the top I will just do the ash legs and walnut accents/tool tray.

Was hoping to dump a ton of this 8/4 walnut I have laying around everywhere in my shop and storage unit into the base and just use the 70+ bf of Ash for the top. Then I got some 9/4 birdseye maple for vices. Waiting on pricing for the 50Bf of Maple for the top that I think I would need for my mini Roubo to see if the Maple will be feasible.

Yes, definitely less informative than his YouTube videos. I guess it cannot be that detailed as people that watch that channel mostly just want drama and not education. I am working on a small Roubo Split top design and was thinking Walnut bottom with Maple top with some walnut accents. Now I might switch to Ash top.

I still have 100s of BF of 8/4 walnut but not sure it would not make better legs than top.

Found another cabinet maker going out of business that had some 8/4 ash that I am hoping to use in the bench build for pennies on the dollar. Maybe the legs with hard maple top if I can find it for a reasonable price.

What Are You Building Today
Your estate is large enough to need a second gated entrance to store the toys? No wonder I pay so much for Prime.

Agreed. I had no idea that office was that he and Keith did the shelving for was in the shed. Worth recording at least.

I never really watch a couple of popular ones, Stumpy, 731 Woodworking, etc. as they seem to only be there to sell shit or defend companies that have negative press. I certainly watch Bourbon but there are too many ads for nonsense from him as well these days.

Not sure he would be the YouTuber I would choose for a real show. What percentage of each show will he be sliding across the floor in his socks? I have been meaning to update some of the favorite YouTubers for this thread. Some new ones that I always watch. I consider them to be less about selling shit and more about doing awesome work. https://youtube.com/@SawyerDesign https://youtube.com/@MikeFarrington https://youtube.com/@ThirdCoastCraftsman https://youtube.com/@theroaringwoodwork2213 https://youtube.com/@WilliamDouglasCo https://youtube.com/@pedullastudio

Yeah, I have no eyelets to hang the strings and it is snowing now so it will have to be a headphone stand with drink holders for right now.

Probably only the bare minimum of planing. Really need assembly surface more than anything but would like the ability to use hand tools every once in a while. Contemplating the simple Rob Cosman Work Bench customized a bit for more surface area maybe.

I have been looking at bench designs, trying to decide between a dedicated hand tool bench and a combo with assembly capabilities. Saw this one for sale locally that looks pretty well made. Not sure I would want the Oak, but the wood alone is probably at least half the cost of the bench. Looks big enough to be a multipurpose bench and probably less than I would pay for the lumber and equipment if I tried to build my own. Just wish it was a bit shorter.

I do have the VRS on my Leigh so the weight is not really felt as it rides on the router support the whole time. There seems to be few sub 2hp non palm routers out there.

Makes sense.

Picking out a fixed based router for the Leigh jig. I like the trigger on the Bosch but I like the height adjustment on the Dewalt I think. Anyone have either one? The Festool plunge routers are just too top heavy to get clean dovetails.

Yeah, I left the grooves as it is a fairly boring and blocky bench without it. Not really a pretty piece, but at least it burnt through a lot of this annoying wood pile on my driveway.

Mock-up of the bench as I try to decide how high to raise the seat slats above the legs before doing a thumbnail roundover on all the slats. Thinking I might take off an extra quarter inch before the roundover to blend the slats and legs better. Also trying to decide if I want it to be a bit deeper.
