  1. Torpedo, Thanks for the instructions. I do think i will try to clean them myself before I send them for recabling. I'll let Alex put the pads on if he agrees to recable.
  2. I think it is risky because the older glue can cause problems with the driver?? I know Alex had a problem with a recent pair he did, not sure exact reason, but a driver got ruined. He was thinking about not touching R10s anymore after that. I hope he will work with mine, so i wanted to give him an out with not recabling all the way to the driver. No, they just arrived. The guy didn't tell me he had shipped them back. Maybe I need his help here . Changed cabling, yes, condition unsure since the pads were glued securely when I sent them out so I never saw the inside. We were thinking about trading my pair for his, bass light for bass heavy. When he saw the condition of mine he changed his mind. He was gonna try to replace the foam for me and i trusted him since he was a surgeon. He couldn't find any foam and went missing for quite awhile. Only a few emails and no return phone calls. I left him a message saying he was worse than Mikhail (who hooked the 2 of us up). Finally got them back after 3 months.
  3. Let me say again that this damage was probably there before I loaned them out. Sound wise they work but i can't tell really since the guy i loaned them to recabled them SE (without asking me) and i need balanced for my amps I'm looking for adapters so I can listen but the bass on them was horrible from the beginning. Now I know why. I am hoping for a full recovery!
  4. Who knows, I am at least the third owner.
  5. Thanks, I sent an email off to Craig. I have worked with him before. I have no idea? Age? Maybe the guy I lent them to left them in his car in the Arizona heat? He did take off the pads I know. He was gonna repair them for me??
  6. Check out the state of my R10s after I got them back. I am pretty sure they were like this before they went out on loan. The foam has completed melted/congealed into a sticky mess on the wood around the drivers. There is even a bit on the driver grills. I sent these pics to Alex to see if he was willing to resurrect them. I can get new pads and foam from Mikhail. Please let's have a moment of silence for the speedy recovery of my R10s .
  7. Thanks for the idea. Spritzer, I will give the adapters a try, thanks.
  8. Funny, yeah, but i need to try and get some replacement foam from Mikhail first which could prove challenging. He wants to work on them but that's not gonna happen. But i really need that foam from him, it is not available anywhere else. Maybe he has some pads too. When is your meet? I would let you guys use them but i need new parts first. It may be evil but would be karmically just in many ways I can't listen to SE headphones on my SDS-XLR because my APL is tranformer-coupled, so i guess the grounding is a problem? The APL only has balanced output. Is there an easy way around this?
  9. Well, I guess I spoke too soon on the R10s. I just got a package today. He didn't even tell me he had sent them. Now I have to see if they still function. The pads look a lot worse than when I sent them and there is a large gap between ones of the earcups and the frame that was not that bad before. I wonder if Alex would even work on them for me. Can you guys think of anyone else? I don't want to send them to Mikhail who actually has the most experience with the R10s. I need to recable them as well, but this is a pair where it is too delicate to take the drivers out so it has been recabled outside the drivers.
  10. Unfortunately for those people, I think Mikhail does do a fair bit of business outside HF. There are at least a couple more stories that I have heard but are not posted, but they seem to be coming out slowly but surely.
  11. It just keeps getting deeper. Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio - View Single Post - Where is Singlepower? Where is Mikhail?
  12. When I was waiting for something to be delivered I was very forceful with him on the phone. I also made ultimatums via email about making the situation public, which I did. I harangued him daily until he delivered my amps. It was an exhausting, and extremely frustrating process. Whenever I speak with him now I almost always bring up the problems that others' are complaining about. He is the excuse meister, whether it be snow, too much work, or whatever. I asked if he was financially in trouble just the other day, mentioning the fact that he had put the Audio Note 5 up for sale at Agon, and all he said was "I'm fine". Considering all the untruths that come out of his mouth I put no credence in this declaration of financial solvency.
  13. Tyrion, thanks for the suggestion. I may do this very soon. I did not lend them through Mikhail, but Mikhail hooked us up. The guy seemed really legit, he's an m.d. and all. He had Mikhail build him some ridiculous ES-2. I have his cel number but he won't answer when he sees me calling. Mikhail is going to call him today and apply some pressure. He does still have his amp and Mikhail feels bad for me. My thoughts exactly. Since I found Blackie, I will never need to send anything back to Mikhail again. This makes me very happy. I hope Blackie comes through. He reterminated my SP cable that was balanced to SE without asking. He actually sent them all the way to Alex to have this done!!! Kinda lame, huh!! He was initially going to buy them or trade me for one of his pairs that had more bass. My worry is that he messed them up in some manner and is ducking me. I know he took the pads off and saw that there was no foam left, hence the lack of bass. He was going to replace the foam for me but could not find any, so I told him to send them back. I trusted him since he is a surgeon and did some work on his R10s. Now he is stalling. No idea why?
  14. This is an argument I had with him many times. Why does FedEx not do pick-ups. He gave some lame excuses, one of which was that they did not come out to where he was? My guess is that he just does not want to pay some sort of pick-up fee if he has a business account??? Anyway, on Icariums' situation, I talked to Mikhail for about 2 minutes last night and it sounded like he was quite busy, it was 11:30 his time. My guess is that he was packing things up finally and that the amps just were not done before when he was saying they were packed up. He told me he would call Blackie and help him repair my amp (ES-2). Another nightmare is that I lent my 2nd pair of R10s (that are pretty thrashed) to one of his buddies (boilingfrog), the same guy who had the situation with JenaLabs, and he won't return them. I am now starting to question his authenticity. The idiot reterminated my R10 cable without asking. Anyone here live near Scottsdale who can pay him a visit?
  15. I'm in for one from Headroom.
  16. This seems a bit over the top Stefan AudioArt Home
  17. That's gotta be him. He brought that DAC to the last SoCal meet.
  18. That's great news, I went ahead and pre-ordered. Now i need them to be balanced. My amp does not play nice with SE. Grounding issues.

  20. Because he obviously doesn't test everything like he says he does. He has sent me a lot of crappy/noisy tubes but i didn't pay for most of them so i have no recourse. I don't buy tubes from him anymore. Basically all my business is going elsewhere from now on. I don't trust a word out of his mouth. There is definitely something strange going on there. I am pretty sure his wife is the AP person he refers to so mysteriously. He has told me his wife has experience in business management. If that is the case maybe we should start talking to her. To me it's just a shift the blame game/manipulation to buy time. I don't think either he or his wife are capable of running this business in an effective manner.
  21. Yeah, I was kinda joking, figured you get a lot of PMs. I got a Tung-Sol 6F8G from you. Anyway, I am definitely going to be more careful with tube matching in the future and probably won't roll tubes too much. Just find something I like and stick with it.
  22. Blackie mentioned something about matching tubes in a circuit as being ideal, i think? The technical talk is quite beyond me.
  23. Is that for me or Nate . I asked Nate how important tube matching was after i got a set from him and did not get a reply. I think he may not like me
