How to attenuate source so amp has more volume play??
If you can find the lineout voltage and input impedance of your amp, then drop him an email and ask. He should be able to calculate the best set for your needs. In any case, I personally suspect that the -20 would be too much. The -6dB does literally give 50% volume at the same pot setting for me - I tested by putting a jack on one channel only, listening, then switching it over.

They are the same thing as the Rothwell attenuators, only without the extortionate pricetag. Two good resistors in a nice RCA plug/socket.

These perhaps? http://www.goldenjacks.com/ The sales pitch is 100% pure audiophile grade bolonium...... but the reality is that they are very nice voltage dividers at a reasonable price. I've got a few sets of the -6dB model.

Power cable, DAC or AMP first?
Like I said, I believe that in Australia at least, everything has to be earthed or double insulated to pass safety codes. I haven't seen a two-prong plug for years down here.

Power cable, DAC or AMP first?
Very interesting. At initial glance, the first 10 pages or so sort-of support what I've been saying. Even on the same circuit, you can get ground pollution and earth loops between devices. Seems that EMI from transformers and any rogue capacitance are the main factors. I'll have a closer read when I have the time. Whether or not this is Edipis' problem...... doesn't really matter, as long as it was fixed. And I still don't think boutique cables do anything

Power cable, DAC or AMP first?
See, this is what really shits me. You've got total crud that doesn't cut the mustard, you've got quality gear, and then you've got throwing good money into the abyss on crap like this. Is that even legal? I was under the impression that (in Australia at least) a product has to be either earthed or double insulated before it is allowed to be sold. It would seem pretty stupid to try and double insulate a CD player......

Check! Still interested to hear from anyone who thinks that boutique power cords do make a difference.....

Power cable, DAC or AMP first?
You can still get ground loops between individual components on the same circuit. I'd assume that the Brickwall has breakers between individual grounds.....? Is that the case? I thought that there were many circumstances where you can pollute the earth grounding. Happy to be proven wrong of course......

Power cable, DAC or AMP first?
I'd put my money on improved earthing, rather than the cleaner AC supply.

Power cable, DAC or AMP first?
In my albeit limited experience, hum is almost always a grounding issue or EMI from transformers. Any 'hum' coming in through AC shouldn't make it into the signal path unless it is crappy equipment with an under-engineered power supply. IMHO, a power conditioner is useful for surge suppression and protection from very short brownouts, but it probably won't do much else.

Power cable, DAC or AMP first?
Colour me a skeptic...... but how the fuck could a boutique mains power cable improve sound? Considering solid state amps, it is pre-switch, pre-fuse, pre-transformer, pre-rectifier, pre-reservoir capacitor, and pre-regulator in the power supply alone - let alone all of the decoupling caps in the amp circuit. What gremlin hiding in a 'bad' power cable could possibly survive passing through all of that, and still present a significant problem? Seriously, I'd love to know!

The Menace
Every time I look at that thing, it just gets more impressive. Brilliant work!

Post the last thing you bought!
Wowsers. I *wish* I could say I bought something exciting like some Stax...... But all I can muster is the BJC order I placed last week, and picked up from the post office today. Three sets of LC-1 stereo audio cables to replace all my cheapies.

The "#$!* I forgot to Order It" Thread
Hooray for babyshit brown components! And you're right about the Mouser project function. I'm just a noob at DIY, but it really is the best thing evar!!!!!1111!!!

Sine wave recordings
RS-1 is 'sharp', and the HD650/K701 etc are 'smooth'. That is pretty much exactly what one would expect.......?

Solder not flowing
Funny..... but I was thinking more along the lines of this:

What kind of headphones are these?
Yes, but it is rather lonely up here on this pedestal......

What kind of headphones are these?
Well if that is what you would prefer...... who am I to judge?

If they were scratching down your back in ecstasy, you wouldn't be complaining. Girls with nails like that know how to do things..... special things.....

K701 insanity spreading over at head-fi
Oh, absolutely. Any movable material in the driver will soften up with physical stress. I just have a hard time believing this takes longer than a few hours for 99% of it to occur..... or that an individual can remember exactly what their headphones sounded like 600 hours ago. Funnily enough, I'm having this exact conversation with someone over at the other place.....

It couldn't possibly be a matter of people's brains getting used to a new sound. No-sir-bob. That's just crazy talk.

NKOTB - TTVJ/Millett 307A Headphone Amp
I don't think that it would be that much of an issue anyway. Most fluorescent tubes still contain a fair amount of mercury, and nobody seems too concerned about that. PS..... bloody hell, this forum has the most bizarre selection of smilies I've ever seen!
