Yeah, so, turntables are definitely best set up stone cold sober. Got the cart aligned much better today and the surface noise is now even across the record (and substantially diminished overall).

Thanks Ari. I set up somewhat hastily with the Rega template from the box and probably need to do a little more tweaking.

Any particular reason why LPs might relatively consistently have more surface noise on the first few tracks of each album side versus the last few? Poor cartridge setup? Sorry, still figuring this out as I go along.
