  1. I've never heard the SR-Ω but as you say are reputed to have the best head-stage of any headphone. The thing that bothers me about the SR-Ω is they are supposed to have a fatal flaw of some sort so will fail. Given the price these fetch now and cant be repaired its a bit of a downer.
  2. Me too, Its not the quantity of the verbiage but getting across the most important points Personally i've learnt a lot from the one or two liners you get on HC about comparative performance
  3. I wasn't trying to offend anyone Here is just one example of what can happen http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/01/us/01slapp.html
  4. So we schmucks are insulatied from being sued for such comments? Where do you get this idea from? Depends how strong your comments are! How come people have been sued for their comments on Facebook and Twitter event though they have tried ti hide behind anonymity? I've seen comments on here about manufacturers that if they thought it worth their while (cost) could provoke litigation
  5. Well I would guess you have to be very careful now even as an individual writing stuff on the WEB because if the manufacturer does not like what you say you could find yourself being sued............. I know of several cases where magazine reviewers have been sued to stop them publishing negative reviews. In any case if as a reviewer you find some really neagative things about a product you would need to check it out with the manufacturer before going to press. I'm sure Tyll has to do this all the time. Pointing out the negative points as diplomatically as possible without getting sued! As I work in the IT Consulting industry companies are getting wise to sites like this and the likes of facebook etc. They are buying software that will collect and analyse data from whats out there to see if their product or brand is being trashed .
  6. I know what you mean.... I write IT strategy and Business Transformation reports for clients as a living, so striking the right balance while being objective can be really painful at times
  7. Couldn't agree more........and of course not forgetting our own very well respected member of the Stax Mafia ... Birgir . Mind you anyone who can eat putrified shark meat MUST have charisma... well something like that anyway.
  8. I think you might be confusing respect with charisma? I would say someone like Tyll is charismatic, judging from his videos, his writing and understated shirts
  9. I have to say I don't understand how you can say he is a charismatic guy, or that anyone can be from posting on a web site? I could understand this if you had some sort of personal relationship with the guy or he was constantly in the media like say JFK or Obama
  10. A bit like Audeze LCD3's then
  11. Well that seems a very good thing to me, as she's just a bad politician, being lesbian or otherwise doesn't really make her more or less politically astute. Perhaps they both get pi**ed too much which is why they make bad decisions. Not really good for the old brain cells! Mind you it must be bloody cold for a lot of the time there (otherwise it wouldn't be called Iceland?) so you need a bit of alcohol in the blood as anti-freeze!
  12. And I thought we only had jobs-worth bureaucrats in the UK!
  13. The Sennheiser HE60 ? With the right amp the Stax Lambda's are dam good too, but not quite so much impact in the bass as the Audeze
  14. Why is there a need to fix the polarity of the HE60 drivers Spritzer? Whats the best way of doing this?
  15. What Dre.... Great stuff ay.. wouldn't consider anything else, world class (crap)
  16. Oooh... as a jazz monster myself you are seriously tempting me to spend $5,000 I don't have at the moment
  17. Hey Tyll great article and comparison and matches many of my thoughts from comparative listening myself. However; haven't had the opportunity to listen to the SR-009 yet, but from your evaluation I must! Pleased to see you have the same problems with the HD-800 treble as I do, thought it was just me as so many people rave about them! I've spent shed loads of money trying to make the HD-800 listenable, different amps, CD players, balanced operation but to no avail. Yes they sound very detailed, but they make so much music sound artificial, strained and mechanical not a great listen for me, in fact I don't listen to my set anymore I think they were trying to replicate the HE90 Orpheus, but IMO did not succeed. Do you know anyone who has tamed the treble peril of these? Interested in your comments regarding the Audeze LCD2 Rev1, although not as good overall as stats they are IMHO the closest I have heard to the Stax Omega 007 without having to purchase expensive amplification. Have you had the chance to compare the Rev1 to the Rev2? Some say the Rev2 is the second coming, while others notice little or no difference. I don't want to shell out another $1000 for something that has very marginal benefit.
  18. Err well yes actually....... if you are not talking about those in current production, the Sony MDR-R10, Lambda Nova Signature and Stax Sigma of course
  19. Yes I have to agree! One of my setups might sound a little odd but works great. I use the NVA 10 PA http://www.nene-valley-audio.com/ which is a SS headphone amp that also has 15 watt speaker outputs. I use several of my non-es headphones through the hp output with great results, and connect up an SRD-7 to the speaker output to drive my Sigmas. It does a great job of both for $450, and as John says I have found the Sigmas perform very well via this route, particularly the normal bias version which to me does not sound so rolled off at the high end as other combinations.
  20. You mean this sort of stuff ? Titebond This might sound a silly question but how do you remove it in future if you have to? A lot of scraping
  21. Any idea where I can obtain this tape or what make it is?
  22. Thanks Spritzer, is this the same type of double sided tape you use for fixing floor covering? like a strong duct tape Are there any instructions/images on the forum on how to dismantle the LNS to re-fix the driver? Presume i have to take the earpads off and as luck would have it just fitted a brand new pair of earpads
  23. Hi can anyone tell me how the drivers are fixed in the Lambda Nova Signatures? Are they glued in or is some type of sticky pad used? On one side the driver seems to resting against the side of the casing. It does not appear to be loose or rattling around but obviously not located in the right place.
  24. Wow this looks fantastic!! Pity i wont be able to hear it when its finished
