  1. God, I haven't been here since Christmas and I hit the front page and there's a dildo thread staring me in the face A+
  2. Nothing in return, insisted! If you absolutely can't shake the compulsion, then pay it forward I got in the habit of sending people CDs from amazon while doing my shopping for exchange partners and just went with it - I have a passion for sharing the music I love
  3. yeah, think i'll see them in denver when they get here comedic geniuses
  4. Infected Mushroom back in August of 07.. Finally dragging myself out for live music again to go see Kill The Noise and Treasure Fingers in early January

    Diablo 3

I'm not sure if I will play it or not. I've wanted to for a long time but I dislike a lot of the changes going on - I see it being kiddy'd down (snobby elitist bad-hygiene hardcore gamer) and WoW'd to hell I'm not as pumped about the soundtrack as I'd like to be - the Diablo 2 soundtrack is an amazing set of music and there is a reason it costs $50 to get a copy of it anymore. Unfortunately, the guy who did the Diablo 2 soundtrack - Matt Uelman - stopped working with Blizzard. Blizzard always has and surely still will hire on world-class artists for their games, but Matt was someone special that stands out far beyond all the other Blizzard game music. Still, what I am looking forward to most for both Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 are the soundtracks.
  6. we'll just use this thread for the gift posting stuff Got my stuff taken care of for my hf and hc guy '-'
  7. Nate and Mike didn't originally get each other - I thought Nate was serious when requesting Mike again here - I was just skimming past posts pretty quickly to make sure to not miss requests like that before posting pairs. I haven't been following the other thread over on HF If you guys want to break-up, another pair probably exists that hasn't spoken to each other yet.

  9. Haven't been stalking the thread - I went out to buy some guys vinyl collection as he posted it on craigslist instead of pairings before then I'll do them now
  10. I've got tomorrow off, I'll put together most if not all of the pairings then - lists are still open until the end of this Saturday
  11. imo the upgrades hardly do much - a/b'd with a maxed out version and while a difference is there, mostly in high extension, it is so very minimal the idea of paying that much more is ultra silly
  12. Devin Townsend's stuff, in general, and definitely around the Terria album.. Starts off playing some of that delicious tonality.. more of it at some point in that vid or the second part of it
  13. Yeah I had you added on that last list but it was an edit, after a mod updated the original post - you'll get picked up in the next revision Sorry

  15. Other site does this and I think it's great for the community. Maybe some of us feel too rebellious to just lift the idea but - that'd be retarded. Hc is a pretty tightly-knit community and I'm personally interested in intertwining it even more with itself.. and, really, just doing something nice for the holiday season. We like gifts, and surprises. As long as we have at least two pairs of people, this is a go. Additionally, I'm going to donate $1 to HC for every person that does this Here's how it'll go: I'll try to match people by country. I encourage everyone to be up for shipping something internationally, just so that we don't end up with a few guys living in the middle of nowhere who wanted in and it doesn't really pan out because I can't find someone to pair them with. It would be very useful if, when you post to sign up - you let me know if you're okay with sending international if need be. For those not living in America or Europe, be ready to accept that you will likely have to be paired with someone international. I'm going to use some software to randomly pair people up. I'll also make sure nobody is sending within their state, that ruins some of the fun factor. What do we send? CDs are going to be the most universal thing that we can all safely send and know it's a reasonable thing for the other person. Anything goes, though. We're all music lovers and audiophiles here - feel free to talk to the person you are paired with to get an idea of whether a certain kind of music may fly well with them (you can even ask if they are familiar with a specific work you'd like to send, but, you're killing the surprise factor -- go with your gut?) or maybe you have a pair of cheap (but not iBuds) IEMs sitting around that you simply don't use and it seems that person could make use of them. Don't just dump off any old thing, though, like a mini-to-mini, if it's pretty probable that they have no use for it either. Feel free to go with anything you think may work well, whether it's conventional or not. I'll put up a specific cap of roughly $40-50 USD as the max that you can give. This is incase some are really generous - but, nobody wants to deal with feeling guilty about having gotten you a CD while you got them an iPod or something. What's actually expected is just a single CD or something around $15-20. I myself will only be sending out something that costs this much. A lot of people here have kids.. and lives, so, I'm keeping it as cheap and accessable as reasonably can be so that the most people can get in on this. Requirements: You have to have joined at least a two months ago, and at least have one post made at least a month ago. This is bare minimal and does not mean that you are qualified - it means you get to make a case with me or have someone else with some status of seniority or something vouch for you. I'm going to be very careful on this - I don't want anyone getting stiffed. If you have credentials etc over on HF I'll have you message me from that account over there. If you don't have anyone to vouch for you, or if you don't have HF credentials (join date, post count, feedback), you are probably screwed. If there's a question as to who you are and how trustworthy you are, you're subject to the aforementioned scrutiny. If you don't meet these requirements, you're gonna have to wait until next year. Obligation: When you post to get in on this, you are accepting the responsibility of getting your gift to the person on time for X-Mas. This means you should be thinking about how long things take to ship during the Holiday season. Nobody is going to kill you if your gift arrives late - the holiday shipping is really crazy and who knows how much worse international shipping gets around this time. The point is that you need to be making the effort to get things there on time. People, if your gift comes a few days late, get over it. Be around - you have to be around and active here (check in daily, please) so that you can be exchanging information with your new Christmas buddy. Please, don't make myself or your partner have to end up worrying about where the hell you are and whether we need to find someone else for them. Somebody is going to kill you if you do this. If you can't participate in this properly, don't do it. I'd rather this run on a skeleton crew or not at all than have things go wrong in any way and ruin it for people this year, and future years. Be checking your PMs. Advice? As soon as you find out who you are paired up with, you need to exchange your information with them, say hello, etc, figure out (by yourself or with them) what you're going to be giving (Me, I'm sticking to CDs and I suggest that for everyone else.) Then get it out to them with some time to spare before X-Mas. Leave it up to them to not open it until X-Mas day If you're shipping within the US, your stuff should be entering the mail system by December 15th. International, December 8th. If there's an odd number, I will personally cover the floater person. I'll update this list as often as I can get a mod to do it. Mods, once we have at least three people in, get ahold of me via messengers or PM and I'll let you know what and where to paste it (should be straight forward from the replies but I'll have people PMing etc). Please Sticky this thread at that point, too. Registration ends on the weekend of December 6th (A Saturday) And we're off, post to join, and if anyone has suggestions, feel free to PM me. 16. Who wants to do something? I can only take so many people - it's my home. And the more we get, the noisier things are and the less objective anyone can be - and I like to put out impressions from my meets It'd be nice to see some new faces - I know I've got Denver people hiding in the woodwork Rough date for this now will be December 13th - a Saturday. If you have any interest, go ahead and post or PM me and let me know what you've got - it'd be nice if we could setup something reasonable like a mini shoot-out of three solid state amps in the same price range - things of this nature (with any kind of gear). You can get ahold of me via an instant messenger (I've got my contact info listed under my avatar on the left here) or if you prefer to call me, just PM for the number I am looking for people eager to listen & learn (fresh newbs with no gear are welcomed) and offer feedback I live around i-25 & Hampden / i-25 & Yale, to give you an idea Myself, I'll likely have the following: Oppo 981 as transport Parasound D/AC 1100 Graham Slee Solo w/ PSU1 Ultrasone Edition 9 w/ APS V3 HD600 PX100 ..Maybe a Graham Slee Novo So, let's hear from you
  17. Remember, remember, the Fifth of November The Gunpowder Treason and plot I know of no reason Why the Gunpowder Treason Should ever be forgot If you don't own a copy, go out and buy it, or rent it. Acquire it somehow. You have the means (I'm talking about V for Vendetta)
  18. I had no idea about this I'm actually flying in to Chicago this Friday to go to the meet (though spending a few days with a friend after is the main reason for going) I urge Kevin to show up - I don't really feel good about partaking in a meet that has this kind of underhanded shit going on - and, my god - in favor of Ray Samuels? I'm expected to bring loaner products from vendors to the place so I'll scratch off not showing up and making the kind of hassle on the thread that deserves to be made - but I'll be clear in any conversations involving Ray's products, how I feel about them. Billy is picking me up from the airport and taking me back to it some days later so I'm not in the best of positions to give him shit over this, either. There is no sponsorship going on as far as I know. And this is a public event. And I have no respect for that kind of vendor treatment for our meets where they turn it into a preying grounds to make money. Show up Kev

  20. I've got the Shanling at home with me now but was having issues with a noise level in the Shanling as well as the Creek OBH-21SE They both put out something that my Ed 9s pick up very significantly - whereas with the D7Ks or the HD600s it is probably negligible. I'm waiting on my new source to arrive and then I will spend some one on one time with the Shanling - with the less resolving phones. I'm pretty put off for that to occur at all but I'm going to check out what it is as an amp aside from that. Nobody had any interest in the Shanling, sadly.
  21. Blutarsky thought the brownies were incredible while wiatrob was all about the pumpkin bread The -==-'d ATs were actually not half bad - they had a pretty well rounded presentation that wasn't /too/ far off from the D2000s - but for nearly the same price point, it's D2000s all the way
  22. My impressions/comments from the day - I'll try to go chronologically Balanced APS V2'd D2000s vs stock D7000s (possibly not fully burnt-in) Well. I am a D2k person. I have not liked the D5ks in the past. I'd say that the D7ks are more D5k than D2k - but that they are definitely an improvement on the D5ks. I think everyone agreed that a recable was just what the D7ks needed. The D7k has a lot of bass. But I am not necessarily saying it has too much bass. It goes really deep and has no issues with getting it to resonate/sustain down there, either. What I particularly liked was that the mids also felt pretty strong with these, too. Usually you may expect the low end to overpower the borders with mids but I didn't feel this way (albeit a brief listen for this particularly). The highs on the D7ks weren't as good as the D2k pair - would a recable make up for the difference? There was more air around the highs in the D2ks, allowing for the superior detailing and particularly decay of things like cymbals. And an overall clearer presence because they weren't crowded at all. If money is a concern - it's a no brainer: D2ks all the way. If money isn't a concern - I suggest you go for a pair of recabled D7ks, or wait to hear impressions on them . I think a Silver Dragon would be the perfect cable for them but I heard interesting and convincing things about the Jena as a choice for these (and closed phones at large). Still, I have no idea which of the phones I would prefer, then. If you are already a D5k fan, the D7ks are definitely a relevant one to take interest in. I have really no experience with the markl mod'd Denons so I can't add anything there. I would be very interested in hearing more to do with all of these Denon variants (including recabled and/or mod'd d7ks) so as to draw some more finalized conclusions. Soha II wiatrob had his Soha II here and after hearing his talk on serious synergy with the Senns (650 and 600s) [i would assume 580s, too] I was ready to hear it. I am not an HD650 fan - I have always found them to sport crapmuddy laid-back-feeling boomy bass, lack of mids and syrupy-glazed over highs (particularly easy to catch with pianos) all delivered in a dark presentation. Well, I was really enjoying them out of the Soha II. It didn't really make much sense. But I have to vouch for the way that amp sounds with the 650s (and according to wiatrob, the other hd senns). If you are a 650 person, I currently cannot make you a better recommendation (unless maybe you want to spend 4-8 times the money - but even then..) I didn't get to listen to it with the 600s but I really plan to the next time we get together. Which I am thinking about trying to make sooner just for this purpose We did spend some time listening to the Soha II with the D7ks and the Edition 9s, though. The D7ks turned into these feather-bassed super highs-oriented cans (it was pretty strange) and the Ed 9s turned into these bloat-bassed.. things. Strange stuff. Edition 9s and the WA6 - both stock and Maxed w/ Sophia Sound good. Maybe a touch more bassy than I would like - but I was mostly listening to Infected Mushroom (Electronic - Psytrance). But just a touch. It's perhaps more to do with a current inner debate I have between whether I want the V3 on my 9s or the Silver Dragon. It's an issue between bass presence and mids presence. And the 9s lack mids to begin with. But the V3 gives me deeper bass and better resonance capabilities (important for electronic, primarily - but all music imo) Le sigh I am very pleased to have my WA6 now for use with the Ed 9s. Senn cables I have not had the chance to spend much time at all comparing between the senn cables I have on hand - I just got them and then had to prepare for the meet and never got around to it during the meet. Look for more impressions out of me (and probably Aura) on the Chiun-Fi meet taking place next weekend as I will be traveling to Chicago for that and we both plan to spend some time with those. Also add an Oracle
