  1. Thanks dusty. Those were my thoughts on the DVD player. Any links for that Denon iLink solution? Sounds like just the ticket. Then all I have worry about is a really good pair of speakers along with what to pair them with to complete the surround setup. So many choices!
  2. Thanks. I'll give that site a look when I get home. Flash and my handheld don't get along too well. Haven't checked out headroom lately. Maybe they have something? Shoot if I have to carry that LV, maybe a smallish gear bag that would fit inside the LV would be a compromise. I'm just not the sort of guy who carries designer bags like this.....and at that price.
  3. My wife and I are at the Louis V store and she's shopping for a new travel bag for yours truly. Seems she's sick of seeing me carry my electronic gear in a Canon camera bag when we travel. While I'd love to get a nicer case for my gear(we travel a lot), there's no way I'm going to carry that thing....at $1200 with NO compartments! So we struck a deal....I find a new/nicer bag to replace my camera case or I carry a Louis V on my next trip. I need a bag with secure compartments, zippers or velcro, dividers...etc. Something a geeky gear junkie like me can store all his goodies in and still slide it under seats on flights. The Louis V has a great big space for a main compartment and thing s will roll around. Only 2 end compartments which don't seal well at all. IEMS could find their way out! The LV is not functional at all. Just an overpriced status piece. You guys have to help me on this one......well the home theater, too.
  4. Are there enough titles and are the new releases healthy enough to warrant buying two HD players...one or both of which may not survive the format battle? What's "SVS"? I'm slow on the uptake today plus my waiter just brought my sushi and beer to the table so I'm not thinking clearly right now. Got a bit of Homer Simpson in me when it comes to beer and sushi.
  5. HDMI is a must for me but I'm not at all familiar with the Outlaw line of gear so maybe I should still giv ethem a look....especially if they're asolid group with good service and quality products at a reasonable price. As for a budget.....I'd like to stay under $10K if I can.
  6. Well, as I transition out of headphones and into speakers, I'm starting to think about the possibiities with the home theater so a bit of help/advice would be most welcome. I'd like to replace my old receiver and add some nice speakers for both 2 channel listening when the mood strikes me and if possible, use those as the front channels in a home theater speaker setup(I think this is the best way to go but correct me if I'm wrong). Is there a receiver that will do justice to the speakers and be compatible with the latest technology or do I really need to think dedicated amplification? At this point, I just don't think monoblocks or uber amplification will be in the cards but if it takes a separates to do the speakers justice, oh well . I don't want to short change the speakers, but I doubt I'll be looking at top end amps for a good while. Heck, I might just break out my old Hafler 500 and see how it does after all these years. I loved that amp back in the day. Also, I'll probably add a nice but not so expensive DVD player to use until the format wars come to an end and there's a clear HD winner. Still cringe over the laserdisc era. Btw, for my source in 2 channel listening, it's going to be computer based.....the Transporter will be at the heart of it. So, anyone got some ideas? As for budget, I'd really like the best bang for the buck so I can snag one of the nicer plasma/LCD/DLP units out there. Oh and one more thing, when considering speakers, the WAF applies. She won't be too thrilled with a couple of big honkers staring back at her from across the room. Oh and that home theater/listening are is 19' X 21' with 8' ceilings.
  7. If it's better than the Dynahi and beta22, a certain builder might want to start warming up his soldering iron. This boy has more room to play with now.
  8. Nope...not even if you threw in a smokin' hot girlfriend to sweeten the deal. Well....maybe....nah.
  9. Got any favorites that you can turn me on to? I'll have to admit to being a bit overwhelmed at the number of choices out there.
  10. LOL....the twisted logic of a gear junkie I suppose. Always have been a bit impulsive. Guess that's my cross to bear. The Apogee probably made more sense for an office setup and truth be told, I doubt the Transporter will leave home so I really didn't address my need in that regard. Maybe Justin's new miracle mini will be the answer there? Anyway, your point is well taken and spot on. Still, I'm having a blast with this one and enjoying the "new toy smell". As for the dac, I've not spent much time listening to the FLAC files yet. Still exploring all it can do and the internet programming available.
  11. In all honesty, I had all but decided to snag an Apogee Mini-Dac for the office setup but was having little luck finding one at a price I could live with. Not sure why, but I began thinking about a piece of gear that had really excited me when it first came out. Just had other things more pressing so I didn't pull the trigger then. This time I just couldn't resist it. Didn't really need it, but darned if I'm not tickled that I have it. Best purchase I've made in quite some time. I'll get around to listening to my FLAC files sooner or later, but right now, I'm just loving the Internet Radio! What a big ol' world we live in!!
  12. All joking aside, at your age, I'd vote neither. You're young. Enjoy the youth and freedom. Plenty of time and if it so happens one of those two are THE woman you're to spend your life with, that's great. She'll be there today, tomorrow and when the time is right. Make it a LOOONNNGG engagement if you're seriously considering this. See her at her best and worst. Every mood....every situation. Make sure she's your best friend and that your heart and mind are 110% certain that she's the one and only.....forever. If there's even a smidgen of doubt, DON'T DO IT! The mere fact that you're asking this question speaks volumes. I vote neither.
  13. There was a thread on Headfi which had several folks complaining about the screws securing the earcup assembly to the headband coming loose. Seems some disassembly will be required should the need to address those screws arise. Any recablers out there have pics showing the disassembly process? Shoot, I'm no DIY'er but I couldn't get the stupid pads off. Is there some magic trick to getting those babies off without damaging them??
  14. Could have gone the rest of the day without reading of your ipod issues. Heck, I knew how problematic they were but mine was a gift from the wife so..... I know it's just a matter of time until it dies. Certainly hope for at least a year with such a hefty price tag. Then again, if it's going down, it is best that it happen during the warranty period. I also picked up a 2G shuffle. No sense in keeping the mp3 database around for a Rio Cali. Made better sense to simply use a shuffle. Not the greatest but hey, in the gym or on the riding mower, who give a flip? It makes music and drowns out the external noise. Can't ask for much more. Still jaw dropped about those numbers. I'd never given a first, much less second, thought about spending for any sort of mod to a portable player so I'd never been up on the pricing or even what the mods involve. Just amazing. Foolish but amazing.
  15. Are you serious with those numbers? I'm shocked that anyone would do such a thing. Hey, I don't begrudge anyone the right to charge what they want for talent/products. That's their call. I'm just stupified that anyone would pay such a sum....for an ipod modification. Surely your numbers aren't correct. If it is, I agree with Nate......gimme the SB3 and a dac for that $$.
  16. Saw it tonight. Decent I guess. Most in our group loved it, but I was only mildly entertained by it. Just nothing new I suppose. Stunts were okay, but I really wasn't blown away by this one.
  17. Curiosity? Heck, sometimes I get into buying modes. I'll try things and make comparisons. What I like, I keep. What doesn't please me, I sell. Finding time to get to meets is difficult or at least it has been during my office build so it's really the best way for me to audition gear. Lose a lot of money that way, but hey, it's a hobby and I enjoy it. Beats booze and women. Cheaper, too.
  18. Hate to come across as a vulture waiting for the end, but I have to ask.....are you going to sell that Zana? If so.....DIBS!!
  19. Yeah, and I could be the first member banned from Head-Case!
  20. Of the new office? That would bore folks to tears. They'd MUCH rather see gear.
  21. "Current" project is the new office. As of today, that's now finished and so am I. Moving in was tough but very rewarding. Just glad it's over. Time to take a well earned rest!
  22. Nah.....mulveling must be hitting the bottle early today. In this case, you really need to cut down on the bling bling to please your land lady. The Zana has got to go....trust me.....trust me....... Not a problem. My paypal is in fine shape. If you need to sell, you can call on me. As they say.....timing is everything. >
