  1. Believe it or not, that comment was very helpful. Ditto that. It seems too good to be true that this little thing can pack so much into such a small package and be good enough to not seem like the weak link. As tempted as I am, I'm not sure it isn't better to hold my Sony and/or Stello and find a more proven SS amp. That nightstand is so darned crowded though. That little guy would be just the ticket if I could be sure the performance would please me.
  2. Gotcha. Heck, Mikhail has mixed his lineup so much lately that I'm having a hard time recalling which new model is which myself. Wish he'd update his website. Would make things much easier!
  3. Warm? Neutral? Edgy? How does it drive cans like the Senns and 701s? Guess it's pretty clear that I'm looking for a space saving SS amp for a bedroom setup. Not an easy task IMO. Anyone got experience/thoughts on this one?
  4. Thanks. Now I have a better picture of how the EC SS will sound. Appreciate it.
  5. It's been quite some time since my comic days. Stuff like Green Lantern, Iron Man, X-Men, Spidey, The Avengers, Fantastic 4, etc... Never did get into the zombie stuff for some reason. Heck, we didn't have that much of it way back then. Dem was Opie and Andy days so viewing was a wee bit more tame than it is today.
  6. Impressive cans on first listen, but after a while, they really began to fatigue me. Not real wild about the mids on those either. I preferred the PS-1's by far and honestly would prefer the RS-1 to the GS1K, too. JMO and your experience may vary.
  7. I have no idea what the hell you just said. Was that english?
  8. It should arrive Monday or Tuesday at the latest. I'm assuming it's gonna play nice with my zonealarm firewall and VNC software? I'll get the user manual online. I'd love to get a peek and see what I can expect.
  9. Just placed an order for one along with a couple more external HD's. Should be interesting bringing my current wireless network down. I put a lot of time and energy into that setup. Having a Slingbox, Squeezebox and remote access all working together is sweet. Now I pull the plug on that and throw the Airport into the mix? Just thinking about it makes my stomach churn. I hope the reviews are spot on and the setup is pain free. Any advice on firewalls, WEP, fixed IP addys? Surely it can't be as easy as the reviews say can it? I'd love to think so, but not 5 minutes after placing the order, I'm dreading the change over. Gah, what have I done!?!?!
  10. So does the airport extreme replace my wireless router? How does it function with the Squeezebox?
  11. External did seem to be the safest and easiest way of doing it but I wondered about performance? From a safety standpoint, having those music files separate makes a lot of sense. Don't know much about the Airport setup but would assume it's not Windows friendly? My home network is all PC except for my MacBook Pro and the desktop which will be the designated music server is also Windows based. Something similar that I could add to when space becomes an issue is this unit by Lacie: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822154098 I could pick up 2 of them and be pretty solid for a while. Whaddya think?
  12. I'm really enjoying the flexibility of this litte source, but it's led me to a decision on my computer setup. Right now, I have all my music on an external HD(2 actually) but it's time to bump up the space available as these are pretty much filled. So, is it better to continue with the external HD connected by USB2/Firewire or should I upgrade the aging HD on my server/desktop? I could bump up the HD on the desktop and keep the external HD's for backups. The desktop HD hasn't given a problem but it is an older drive which for my peace of mind could stand an upgrade. What's the thought? Btw, anyone got tips on a quick and painless way of cloning my existing HD onto the new one? I don't own Norton Ghost but have heard good things about Karen's Replicator. I've changed out HD's many times but I never really cared about losing data, settings, software, etc before. I'd just do a clean install and start over. Doing that is not an option with this desktop. I need to preserve things as they are. Suggestions appreciated.
  13. Scratch that one from the bedroom rig candidate list I guess. Sheese, I didn't think I'd have this hard a time finding a SS amp for a second rig. Thanks for the comments. As the 650/600 and 701 are my preferred cans, the Opera doesn't sound like it would work well for me.
  14. Don't know the title of it, but it's the song they play at Abercrombit and Fitch stores. I won't even go in anymore. Makes my head hurt and ears ring. Yeah, I'm way too old for that but I do take my daughter shopping sometimes.
  15. Interesting read. Heck, there are times that all of us post things we wish we could take back. There are times where we're misunderstood and our posts are taken in the wrong spirit. Some got upset. Shoot, it's water under the bridge at this point. No sense in trying to crucify the kid. Everyone has had their say and vented. At this point, I'm not sure there's a benefit to holding on to things. I'd much rather go through that 40 page thread and read about gear and folks meeting each other than this little episode. Some will disagree but it's still much ado about nothing in the grand scheme of things IMO.
  16. Hey Tyll, I'll take that "damaged" player at 50% off. You game??
  17. I've read that thread. Still, unless there's something I've missed somewhere, I'm just not seeing what the fuss is about. He voiced an opinion on various pieces of gear. I'm not sure why someone would be upset at what I'm reading in that thread. Guess I'm old, slow and stupid because I'm not getting where some would have a complaint here.
  18. I've seen that Circuit City design a few times and while it did meet with the wife's approval from a decor standpoint, there's just something about it that doesn't appeal to me. Gets the job done I guess but....not for me. The VTI looks nice enough and a good compromise might be the Atlantis series. I'm holding off on buying one as I have my eye on one of my kids rooms now that they're both off to college(or soon will be). If I can get that as my private space, I'm going to make it an entertainment area. Stereo, headphones, flat screen, speakers, etc....so anything I buy now probably won't fit into the plans. Good luck. Finding a solid, reasonably priced rack that looks good is no small task IMO.
  19. To what posts does this discussion refer to?? Maybe I've missed the posts being referenced here, but I've not read anything from you that would have me thinking ill toward you. FWIW, anyone who's been on the net and boards like this for any length of time knows how hard it is to read tone, sarcasm, etc...into posts. Personally, I wouldn't sweat it if I were you. I gave up worrying about what others thought of me long ago.
  20. Tyll, you just described exactly what I'm looking for with those comments. 'Bout time I got some of your gear to listen to!
  21. Just a great thread IMO. I hope some of the other headamp manufacturers are reading and learning. It's easy to get caught up in the race to get new products to market. I'm sure the feeling/pressure is to keep up or get left behind. Still, I think it will come down to staying focused on providing a quality product to the customer and above all customer service. That's really what will inspire customer loyalty and in the end, lead to success. Sad to see some fall into the trap of rushing foolish designs to market at the expense of taking care of existing customers, but when others do it and seemingly profit from it, I'm sure it's a hard thing to resist. Here's hoping some of the good guys in this hobby wake up before it's too late.
  22. Just set mine up on the home network and opened the required port at the office so I can peek in on ESPN during my breaks. Man, this thing is sweet! Wish I'd had it when March Madness was in full swing. Still, that darned thing is COOL!! Snagged a 4 port Slinglink so I can pop in a Squeezebox, DVD player, and a couple more items, too! Man, I do love tech toys!
